ferretclaw i know nothing. Unicorn, Okuda Tamio, Shiina Ringo, Tokyo Jihen, Fujifabric, Quruli, The Back Horn, Acidman, Chubu Track, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Gelugugu, Sato Chiyako, Shimazu Aya, Go!Go!7188, Art-School (but only early art-school), The Blue Hearts, Ging Nan Boyz, Brahman, Cali=Gari, lab., Polysics. There's a small list of what I like. okay, maybe you can explain the big deal with skapara. i just... don't get them. o_O i'm a musician myself, but how on earth did a band like that get to popstar status? for me, it's not really a dislike... more of a confusion... sweatdrop *goes to listen to the new tokyo jihen album* domokun It's the appeal of ska (not ska-punk or the other varieties you see floating around like Kemuri) I suppose combined with a long career that could amount to their popularity. The age of the fanbase present at lives in Japan is probably the broadest that I've seen from kindergarten children to old women probably in their 80s. Something about their music touches a chord with their audience, and that could also account for their presence as popstars.

Orange Range's song Hana ABSOLUTELY KILLED the mood set in Ima, ai ni yukimasu. It didn't fit with the emotions portrayed during the montage is was playing in.
Just another layer of why I don't like that song.... neutral

What more when connected to the anime or montage, compared to the short version.

It's not just not fitting, it's completely destroying the hard work that the scriptwriters, actors, cinematographers, et al put together to make the emotions in that last part of the movie. The song is not of the caliber to reflect the scene. An instrumental piece would have been much better placed than that Orange Range monstrosity.
The mood of tearjerking emotions were TRAMPLED UPON LIKE GODZILLA RAMPAGING THROUGH TOKYO IN THE 1960s.
