"I did," she said. "All that I knew, my loved ones, my friends, they were here. So I came back." A sigh left her, and she smiled slightly. "I became my brother's banu, until Nywele came. He saved one of my nephews who was about to drown."
There was a faint bit of hero worship in her eyes, something she had never grown out of. But it had grown into love. "He was a very handsome male, he still is. I was a very, very lucky female when I was offered to him."

“Oh, I think I heard about that…” Mel said more loudly now that the story had ended. “It’s so nice that you found daddy. I wonder if I’ll ever find my hero.” She giggled, turning her face to face forward again. “Look, isn’t that dad?”
The chocolate female rose up quickly, eyeing the light brown shape in the distance intently, quickly confirming the initial assessment. Her tail happily dancing behind her as Mel took one discreet step back. It was only proper to let the beybanu be the first to greet the harem’s Pad, after all. She could wait for her turn, patiently, already anticipating her father’s reaction to the antelope she had “caught” with Uggi.

"Why don't we go tell him about your kill?" Amani asked with a smile as she got to her feet. "I'm sure he'll be very happy." Even though her pad didn't need to eat, she thought. But it made Mel happy, and that's what really mattered.
