"It is no matter," Cali said when he said 'forgive me'. "We were lost in the haste to speak of the the herd. And you have a beautiful name." She smiled daintily at him; she was quickly finding herself warming up to him. He seemed a good stallion - at least worthy enough, perhaps more so, for a position of prestige... And she could not cover her disbelief at his thoughts. "If I had not found you today, be assured that you would have run across one of us - though the land is wide, we are trying to spread the hope of our kind... Tell me, Fayearan - would you be interested in taking a higher position within the herd?"

Fay smiled truly flattered to be complemented on his name. “Thank you, I do enjoy it immensely as names go.” Seeing her smile once more Fay pawed the earth tail swishing. Indeed a smile looked best on her. Looking at her he tilted his head and frowned. “I lost my herd as a foal, now full grown I have never seen another of my kind. You are the only one that even comes close to being my kind.” Indeed she came very close though the mare insisted she was else wise. “A higher position, such as what?” Indeed, what would she think he would be good as other than a normal member? he had not seen another ever.

Calixte studied him carefully again, mindful of the hawk circling high above him. She had not meant to propose his promotion in the herd on such short notice - the words had honestly just slipped from her mouth, almost accidentally. However, Cali had learned, in her time here and in her native Greece, to trust one's instincts - they often made the difference between life and death. Looking him over again, she could see the nobleness in him, and the honesty - his understanding of non-vocal animals and his experience with loss and life.

"I think," Cali said, half still thinking the words, "that you could make a very good master of ceremonies. You have the intuition, the ability to see past bias, a good-natured personality..." She smiled. "You understand that hawk, who does not talk. I think that, most likely, you'd also have the creativity and the gall to challenge decisions that felt wrong... Am I even close to hitting some of the nuances of your personality?" A moment of self-doubt had found her, and she was suddenly shy in her assessment of him. Such thoughts should be kept private, to oneself... But in choosing a candidate for a most important rank - a rank she hadn't even thought of until a few seconds before - one's immediate thoughts might be of utmost importance; they should not be pushed aside.

"In any case," she said, "I hope to be the mistress of ceremonies once a qualified female is found to take on the job of alpha - I am finding that leading, even with just two other members, is beginning to wear on me." Smiling weakly, she was unsure what more she should share - she could, in time, unveil her history and homeland, but that would be for a later meeting; perhaps one with all of the herd.

"So - what do you say?"

{OoC - Love the sig, by the way ;D Can I put it in my sig, too? *cue puppy eyes*}

Faye watched the mare as she looked him over, his head tilting to the side as he wondered to what she was thinking. He had never been so closely looked at, and in a way it was odd and worrying. When she finally spoke again his ears turned toward her at full attention to what she was saying. As she spoke of him Faye could not help feeling embarrassed and very flattered. “You found one wrong, I still do not like those rounded hoofed others. The ones who came galloping with the two legged on their backs.” He shook his head at that, angered at the thought of them. He felt they betrayed their kind. “However I would not harm them or do anything to wrong them.” No if they deserved praise he would give it just as surely if they did wrong he would tell them.

“I do not know of the other things, I do not look so closely at myself. I like to believe that I am fair in nature though.” Indeed he believed that is someone praised themselves they might as well be a twittering bird who were nothing but vain and self-thought creatures with their bright plumage. Oh he had met vain Soquili and indeed found their company distasteful; for they were vain in looks they were sour in personality. Looking to Calix his ears gave a small flicking as his tail swished in amusement. “So it will be females to lead the herd.” He paused and again tilted his head. “Different, but just so.” Many males were to strong headed more thoughtful to fighting then the care of a herd. It was what antlers seem to do though, but if Faye was vain of anything it was his antlers.

Smiling at her he gave a shrug of his shoulders, or best that he could do. “Some lead, and some prefer to follow and teach. Without teachers there is no one to lead to being with.” Flicking his tail again in amusement he blinked and turned his attention back to Calixte. “I would be very proud and honored to be the master of ceremonies. Even further still to work beside you when you become mistress of ceremonies.” Indeed she seemed a fine mare, greater them him for sure. To work with someone so kindly would be an honor indeed.

(Oh thank you, and go right ahead and use it! ^^)

Calixte nodded at her slight mistake. She understood his dislike of the ones that let the two-leggers ride them - the ones that he'd said had brought disease on his herd. They would not, however, be a part of the herd anyway, so that was irrelevant for now. Cali saw that he was good, and like his name, would be fair to the best of his ability. "Well," she said, "I try not to look at myself too closely either, but sometimes it is the only right way to disillusion oneself." She smiled, and looked to the sky where the hawk was circling. Her butterflies fluttered around her, giggling like always, and before she could stop them, they went to study the new stallion before her. Calixte could only just stifle her command that they retreat - she was curious how Fayearan might interact with them.

Now pretending to ignore the butterflies' trespass against Fayearan's personal space, she continued. "Yes, well... Males tend to be very good at the protection and patrolling aspects of a herd; the females who would rather do something other than find food or take care of children must have something to do with their time, and leadership can be found in most of us in times of stress, or at any time in general, really. I think it's one of the reasons that we are the ones that have the children." She smiled at him. She was unsure of how he'd react to such views, but in her time as a shepherd of her own forest, she'd found that her 'children' had always turned to her, rather than the larger trees that had long outgrown the need for a nanny and acted as father figures to the saplings.

She grinned. "I am glad you've agreed... Now, I think, as soon as the butterflies are done with you, that we can go find the others, if you'd like." The butterflies were attempting to line up in a row on one of his antlers, like birds on a small tree limb. Calixte let out an uncharacteristic laugh, and hushed herself just as quickly.

“Looking at myself, I think I would ignore the bad traits and I do know there must be many.” He had not seen any himself but then that is why you should never judge yourself, you either see no faults or you see far more then there truly was. Fays ears flicked forward as the butterflies went around him. Ears twitching he held still as the moved about him. He wanted to touch one, their soft bright wings looked thinner then a blade of grass.

Still watching the butterflies he blew at them softly if they got too close to his nose. Last thing he wanted was to breathe one in. “Well yes still many would argue it should be the male to lead. Me, I really don’t care. However if they prove to be too weak on hard decisions or slacking off. Well then they need a bite to their flank whoever they are.” He smiled at her back but soon blinked and tried his best to look at his antlers.

Hearing Calixte laugh, he smiled all the more. “There not, that is a better sound then sharp words of debating on leaders.” Still as the laugh was quickly chased away his ears gave a small flick. He was still trying hard to remain still, but his muscles flicked and jumped showing how much standing still was costing him. He did not want to chase the little things away however nor harm them.

If he moved he might knock his antler into one and that was not something he wanted. What he did want was to still touch one of them. Taure screeched amused at the sight. Moving into a steep dive the hawk finding his perch taken by butterflies, tried to land on Calix back. Fay seeing this snorted and pawed the ground. “I wouldn’t let him land if I were you. His talons can crush a skull of a fox.”

Calixte laughed a little more, dodging the hawk's talons as he tried to find a roost on her. "I will only let you sit on me if you are gentle with those claws, friend," she called after him as the hawk hurtled by her.

Smiling at Fayearan, she clicked her tongue and the butterflies flew back toward her, except for one. That one, the smallest and newest member of the little butterfly tribe that liked to linger in her mane, decided that it would be daring. Instead of finding a flower in Cali's mane to land on, it made for the end of Faye's nose. A mental uh-oh went through Cali's head, and she froze, hoping that Faye wouldn't accidentally inhale it. "Don't breathe, Faye," she said quietly.

Taure let out another long screech clearly not impressed. Instead he went to Fay’s antlers and landed on them harder then he need to. Those large talons scrapped the antlers but Faye didn’t even blink. Taure though gave a slight hop like a parrot might do, and a large beat of his wings then landed on Calix shoulder shifting and moving his talons away from her the best he could. He could not bring in and out his talons like a cat, and if he could he would see no reason for what would a female want with a hawk who did not show off his strength and his wings?

Faye was amused as the butterflies went off and Taure landed on him, but his whole side flinched and twitched as the small creature took a rest on his nose. He went cross eyes trying to see the small thing but as Calix told him not to breathe he froze stiffly his ears going back his neck arching ever slightly. He liked the small creature but not if it were to stop his breathing. Still he did not want to harm it and Fay got the idea if he pushed air under it perhaps it would take flight. So he brought his head down, then slowly up as if doing a large bow or a horridly large nod. He wondered why this one had decided to stay and the other left, but guessed it had to do with Calix herself. “I cannot not breathe for so long.” He spoke but in a slight strain trying not to swallow it any more then breathe it in. He could not help but find amusement in the whole thing though. So the butterfly tames the stallion.

As the hawk landed semi-delicately on Cali's shoulder, the butterflies scattered toward Faye, and the one that had landed on his nose took off to join them. They flew off toward the woods behind Cali, disgruntled and most likely off to pester Oke somewhere in one of his hiding places.

"I'm sorry about that," Cali said, trying to balance the hawk comfortably on her shoulder. "They forget their limits sometimes. Anyway, they must have gone off to find my bear cub friend in the forest... They like to tease him." She smiled weakly, and nodded toward the forest. "Shall we go find the others?"

Faye watched amazed as the butterflies flew in a cloud. A cloud he would swear that looked like flowers had come alive and started to fly. Looking back to Calix his ears peering forward; he grinned brightly and a bit goofily. “That sounds like a wonderful idea; I would like to meet the others.” He hesitated though his back leg giving a nervous strike to the ground. “The bear is harmless right?” He met a bear. “Well I guess if doesn’t matter since he’s your friend.” He smiled slightly and moved to stand beside her taure moving to his antlers in another odd hop though with less care. “Off we go, let’s see how your little herd fares.” He was smiling happily, ready as ever to move on, but this time it sure was a bright time to move on then before.

"Well, when you meet him sometime, you'll find that he is about as harmless as those butterflies," Cali said, heading into the forest. "I think they should be easy enough to find... Two large stallions can only travel so far without the forest knowing." She winked at Fayearan without knowing what she was doing, and, embarrassed, hid her face in her mane as she continued forward.

A harmless bear, yea well when it was eating him he would be sure to pet it. Fay did not trust bears. Seeing the wink he tried not to make it a big deal but in the end Faye couldn’t help himself and he was grinning tail swishing behind him. “Then let us track the big stallions and hope they haven’t crushed to many plants in their waking.” His own hooves were carefully placed but he didn’t once look down. Years of traveling alone and being stalked by predators makes anyone a good quiet walker. “Then I will see if you wink and smile so prettily at them as well.” He said it quietly and mostly to himself his head bobbing to a song he heard before and now recalled.
