It was almost agonizing to watch him try to process what she had just told him. The news was obviously a shock, it had shocked her as well, but it worried her what he would say or do. But slowly he seemed to accept the news and it lifted a great weight off of her shoulders. Of course when he uttered the words 'small problem' her heart sank. What could this problem be? He said he wasn't angry, that he was happy and yet somehow there was a problem.
Syn stood quietly as he told her about the other mare, the mare he was now in love with. She supposed that it wasn't that surprising if he had found someone new since their one night together but it did crush her spirits a bit. "I understand." She finally managed to say after a very long pause. "Your heart belongs to another, but we can still be friends. Friends who happen to have had foals together." It wouldn't be perfect but at least he wanted to see them.
She took a step forward and pushed her nose into his neck reassuringly. "It's not your fault entirely Orrin, we are both to blame. We'll make it work somehow, I have my family to help me when your not around, and you can visit as often as you can." Pulling her head back so she could look into his eyes she spoke again. "I would like you to be there...when the foals arrive, if you can" Even if it meant him bringing his new mate along she wanted him there for her, during that most special time.
Her eyes moved to Mercy off in the distance, making sure her sister hadn't wandered off too far, then looked back to Orrin. "It doesn't matter that we aren't together, what matters if that our foals know that they are loved...by both of us." And she would love them, with every bit of her heart, and in truth she loved Orrin as well but as a friend.

Yep there you see...that look of complete and utter shock on his face was a dead giveaway, something seemed to be a bit off though, neither of them seemed exceedingly happy like they should be - or at least the way Mercy imagined they should be. Of course they didn't seem overly upset either, they weren't arguing or anything.
...They just seemed subdued. Mercy wasn't sure if she was welcome back quite yet - they seemed to be working some things out but she took a few steps closer to her sister anyways as though by simply being closer she could ease something of her sisters burdens. Silly but then everyone said such things were expected from her anyways.

"Yes," Orrin said, although a bit quietly. "We will still be friends. We will always be friends." He leaned into her touch, finding it very comforting in the situation, then as he pulled back, managed a true smile.
"I'll visit as often as I can--I'm sure that it won't be a problem. My other... Forte, she will understand. She has kids too." Yes, Forte would understand. She had to. This was a very important thing in Orrin's life now, and there was no way that he'd let his foals grow up without knowing him. He would be the best father that he could be, even if he was just a bit childish.
He felt his heart lift at the mentioning of the birthing. Yes, he could see it now--Syn's stomach WAS a tad bit larger. Or maybe more than a tad... the special day couldn't be far off now. "Of course, Synestra. I would love to be there. I wouldn't miss it for the world." He nodded, letting a reassuring smile light his face. He wouldn't let her be alone for that, even if it meant traveling to her home. He wondered if she had parents... parents who might not be so happy with him. But he would brave them to see the birth of his children.
"I'll just have to tell Forte. But she'll understand." He gazed at Syn's round midsection, wondering what the babies would look like. Would he be a good father? He could only hope. "They'll know, Syn. I'll never let them think otherwise." He nuzzled her cheek, for once feeling confident about something.

She could only hope that his mate would be understanding and accept this family that he had created, if not well she at least had Orrin's word that he would be a part of the foals lives no matter what. When she saw him looking at her stomach and smiled and glanced back to loo at it as well. While not overly large it was getting there. "Shouldn't be too long I should think." Oh how badly she wanted that day to come, so she could look upon their foals, but she understood these things took time and the foals woudl come when they were ready.
"I'm glad you don't want to miss it. It's something special that we should share." Her eyes glanced over to Mercy, who had moved closer now, and Synestra was grateful for it, her sisters presence was just what she needed right now to help calm any nerves she may be feeling. She smiled at her sister, letting Mercy know it was okay to come closer if she wanted to. The news had been given, shock, joy and every other emotion had been passed between them and things had pretty much been worked out.
When Orrin nuzzled her cheek Synestra felt light as a feather. She knew they would make excellent parents even if Orrin wasn't always around. His touch was so gentle that she became lost in it for a few moments. Then she remembered something important, if Orrin was going to be there for the birth he would to know where she lived. "My herd, it's a good distance away from here. It will take several days to travel there, so you will need to leave well ahead of time if you want to be there on time. It's," she she glanced about for a moment getting her barrings and then pointed off in the direction she and Mercy had come from with her muzzle. "in that direction. Pretty easy to find, look for the only Usdia herd with an alicorn in it." She said with a chuckle, it would be pretty hard to miss Mercy amidst all the smaller Soquili.

Mercy moved closer at her sisters smile, pausing to stick a red flower in her mane once she got there "matches your hooves" She told her with a smile before looking between the two with a curious gaze "So everything is okay then?"
She eyed Orrin "Your going to stick around? Father will be so pleased - he says foals ought to know their fathers" She told him in a cheery voice, she assumed he must be planning to stick around - she was pretty sure she'd overheard Syn telling him how to find they're herd as she approached and whatever subdued impression she might have gotten before seemed to have passed - Syn and this stallion seemed to have come to some sort of agreement at the very least.

Orrin looked in the direction that Synestra pointed at, his eyes searching the horizon. It shouldn't be too hard to find her, like she said. And he was used to traveling to all sorts of places, so he knew that he wouldn't mind the journey.
"I will most definitely be there," he assured, nodding his head vigorously. Despite the fact that they were just friends, and that he wouldn't be around constantly for the foals, he didn't want to miss the special moment. He did, indeed, want it to be something special between them. These were, after all, going to be his first children!
"And I'll be sure to leave early!" he stated, looking forward to the coming journey. He turned, seeing Mercy approaching them, and gave a reassuring smile, though he knew she'd be disappointed that he wouldn't be going with them yet.
"Yes, everything's alright. We're going to get through this. But... I can't stick around all the time. You see, I've found a mate already. But I will visit often, and be a strong part of the foals' lives. I DO want them to know their father, and to know that I love them and will not abandon them." He looked to Synestra, his eyes glancing at the red flower in her mane. "And I want to be there for Syn, too. I'm not a coward, and I'm not going to run away from this. We will be a family... even if it's not a normal one."

"I'm glad." She said, and it was true, she was glad that he would make the effort to be there to see his foals come into the world and visit them as often as possible. It would be hard knowing that he wouldn't always be around but she had no doubt that he would love them constantly even when he wasn't present.
She beamed a smile at her sister as the flower was placed in her mane. "Thank you Mercy." Mercy, she was always so thoughtful, it was sad to know she had to hear what Orrin was about to tell her, that he wouldn't be returning with them to live out some perfect life in their herd. But you know what, that kind of perfection wasn't what she needed, what they had agreed upon was the perfect situation. "Don't worry, it's all been worked out. He will come and visit as often as he can...and his mate can come along too if she wishes." She offered to Orrin, since Forte was a part of Orrin's life and with him being a part of the foals then it made sense that at some point they would likely meet his mate.
Of course Mercy's mention of father had Synestra worried. How would father take the news of Orrin not being fully involved in the foals lives? Surely he would understand and be happy that he would be as involved as was possible and love them fully. "Father will be pleased enough." She confirmed Mercy's words, it was a truthful as she could be about it. Cheveyo would love his grandchildren and by extension accept the terms that she and Orrin had worked out regarding them.

Mercy took in all the words spoken by both Orrin and Syn for several long moments and a thoughtful look on her face - something that didn't seem to happen very often, or perhaps it did and nobody noticed, preferring instead to dwell upon her more eccentric characteristics.
It was not the solution Mercy had envisioned of course, she had imagined a perfect family for her sister...but then again who said the perfect family had to be a normal one, why she was proof enough that things outside the norm could work out very well - and she wasn't the type to dwell on the negative aspects of any situation. There was always good somewhere - you just had to be open minded enough to see it so she beamed at both Syn and Orrin and simply said "Well...who says normal is better anyways!"

Orrin grinned, nodding at Synestra. Yes, perhaps Forte would want to come along with him. Maybe the light travel would do her good, and she might want to be involved with the foals too. She HAD been a mother once, hadn't she? She might be able to give some pointers.
He felt his chest constrict as they mentioned their father--he would most definitely be meeting him. He could only hope that he would accept the situation and be happy for Orrin's involvements, however unusual. Though some small part of him actually did want to meet Syn's father, and the future grandparent of his babies.
He glanced at Mercy, giving a small laugh. "Yes, you're right! Perhaps normal isn't always best. Whatever the situation, I absolutely know that these foals will be strongly loved." He sighed, thinking of his children. No longer was he some young traveler who was free to go wherever he wanted--he was an adult now. A father.
"Well, I suppose I will see you very soon! But before you leave, how about a meal? There's some nice berry bushes nearby--I'm sure you're hungry."

"I hear normal is pretty boring anyways." Synestra said with a chuckle. This arrangement was as normal as it would get but it was a good one, it really couldn't have turned out any better as far as she was concerned. Well at least they were now being lighthearted when earlier everything had been so serious. It made everything seem perfect, in an odd sort of way.
"Oh my gosh berries would be so good right now!" She exclaimed at the mention of food. She had been hungry, was still hungry and the thought of sweet, delicious berries made her mouth water. They followed Orrin the short distance to where the berry bushes were and spend a good little while eating and talking until it was decided the time had come to part ways. She was sad to leave, to go without him but she knew he would arrive at her home soon enough. "Don't be late, I want you there...need you there." She whispered to him giving him a friendly nuzzle before setting off with Mercy once more. It would be a long trip back and there was much to think of during that time, at least Mercy was here to lend her constant support.

Mercy was more then happy to agree to the meal of berrys, she loved berries and with her around they could even reach the one high up on the bushes, it was nice to spend time to get to know Orrin a bit more and to see Syn and he spend some more time thinking thing out before they said they're farewells and parted ways.
It would be a long trip home and while Mercy had enjoyed her first trip out of herd lands she was more then happy to be heading home too. She supposed the old adage home is always sweeter when you've been gone for a while held quite a bit of truth to it. Mercy also knew that father would be pleased to see them return, Syn would soon be at the point where extended travel wouldn't be good for her. None the less...Mercy was sure they would make it home in time.Hopefully.
