Fiddle? That was probably putting it lightly. Very lightly. Personally, Alba had no plans to mess with that issue. As it was, he was cutting down and contradicting enough of the morals he had once upheld just by being where he currently was. "True. I think I'll stick with originals if I can, though. I'm probably just old-fashioned like that," he said casually, turning to flash a quick, good-natured grin.

He looked back along the streak he had cleared. Deeming the floorboard along that wall as being as clean as it was going to get, he moved back to where he'd left the bucket near the starting corner. "Best part about cleaning in high traffic areas," he said offhandedly, "so long as the edges are clean and noticeable debris removed, no one really cares or looks long enough to notice the state of the middle." One quick dip of a rinse later, and he was walking backward at a somewhat slow, but steady, pace, sweeping the mop left and right in his trail. Each sweep covered a width of about three and a half feet, overlapping the last streak by a few inches. The pattern was only broken to give some of the difficult patches extra attention. It was how he'd worked for years, if the way he maneuvered the mop with fairly practiced ease was any indication.

"Eh," Aulus shrugged, "Whatever. I guess I can understand that. Not everything that goes on down in the labs it too nice from what I know, but we signed up for it all." He'd been stupid not to expect unspeakable experiments. Team Rocket. Not famed for their kindness to pokemon. Pokemon were tools, nothing more. Well, at least any pokemon he owned would be treated better than that.

"I guess you're right," he nodded slightly and began work in the opposite direction to Alba, emulating the movement of the older man's mop. "Any excuse to do a half-arsed job of it," he snorted, "get it done and get onto the next duty, get that done, and hope to be allowed to clock off early. Sooner I can get down to the pool or the gym the happier I'll be."

"Heh. Who said anything about doing a job halfway? Three-quarters, maybe, but I never said halfway." Alba monitored the younger trainee's movements for a few seconds. "You should always do a good job, just sometimes it's better to save the back breaking detail work for other occasions." Like cleaning industrial ice boxes, or performing maintenance on some other large, entirely important machine. On the bright side, Aulus was a quick learner when it came to mopping! "Wait... This place has a pool?" He almost tripped over his own mop in his confusion. Which was something, since he was supposed to be walking backwards in front of it. Still, a pool? He'd guessed and heard of the gym in passing, but he had yet to get lost enough or otherwise directed to any contained body of water.

"Ha," Aulus shook his head, "whatever you say. Still, got to do a fair job or you just get told to do it over again I bet... What do you mean 'this place has a pool?' Of course it has a pool," the scarred man snorted, "didn't you get a tour when you first arrived? Egh, well, I guess unless they want you to clean them they don't really care if you know where the recreational facilities are; the woman who recruited me showed me around a bit so that's how I know. If we finish up here in good time I'll show you where it is if you like."

Alba shrugged, halfhearted and embarrassed. "Eh, they kinda tossed me in a room and told me where to report for work the next morning. Had to get help from my roommate just to find the cafeteria." And what a godsend that had been. His Chingling may have developed a liking for human meat if she'd been forced to forgo dinner another night.

"I may have to take you up on that offer. If you really don't mind, I could definitely appreciate knowing where that sort of thing is." Otherwise, he probably wouldn't find it until some time when he was lost again, and then it would be just his luck if he had to spend the night at the poolside until someone found him the next day. It wouldn't be the most ideal situation, that was for sure.

“Eh,” Aulus shrugged, “not like it’s a big difficult task. You know the pokemon training facilities on base floor two? The pool is the next floor down along with the gym and the rec rooms.”

Showing the older trainee around would only take a couple of minutes, and he felt (just) enough solidarity with another under-appreciated red-shirt to spend that time on him. Somebody should have taken pity on the poor b*****d before now really, live would be a real drag. He’d probably have brained somebody with this bloody mop by now if he hadn’t been about to burn off his frustration in the gym and then calm down in the pool. Just went to show how much Team Rocket valued people like them, but then what had he really expected? It was Team Rocket, not a daycare centre for special children.

Pokemon... training... facilities? "Oh! Is that where? Yeah, I know where that is." Not a clue. "Guess I've just been walking right by it this whole time." Alba gave what he hoped was a convincing chuckle, and turned all of his focus back to the mop before he could embarrass himself further.

Maybe he should've asked Lucas for more of a tour at some point. It wasn't like many of the other, younger trainees could really be bothered to show the "old guy" where everything was. Stupid stupid stupid stupid stupi- "WAH!" And that, dear readers, was the sound of Alba stepping on a paper napkin he had somehow overlooked. The shout was accompanied by the clatter of the mop handle hitting the ground, and the elder trainee would have gone down with it if not for the wall and a set of attached garbage bins being only a few more feet behind him. In the end, he managed to grab the edge of the counter hiding the trash cans with one hand, and held on awkwardly for a few seconds before getting his feet back under him. "Uhh... Meant to do that..."

"Ha!" Aulus gave around of applause for the near miss. "Sure you did," he chuckled with a grin, "the look on your face clearly tells me that was part of the comedy routine you have planned. It'll wow the executives at the winter party, I'm sure." Feeling very glad it hadn't been him tripping over and looking like an idiot, the scarred young man scanned the now rather cleaner dininghall and gave a nod of satisfaction. "Well, it looks like we're about done here," he observed, "can you see any bits we've missed?" For all his talk for half-arsed jobs, the last thing he wanted was to get called back here to fix a patch of floor that hadn't been cleaned properly; that would not only eat into his free time, but also be a mark against him that he really didn't need if he was planning to advance up to grunt swiftly.

Alba rolled his eyes as he finished righting himself and retrieved his mop. "Thank you, I'll be here all week," he said in a sarcastic tone, but he was grinning as well and gave a bow. He finished the line he'd been working on, and was relieved to find that he had reached the side already cleaned by Aulus. "Actually, I think that's it. Thanks for the help. Most of the other trainees I've worked with just gripe and complain more than actually doing anything." Walking along the wall, he carried the mop back to where he had left the bucket not too far away.

"I complain and work," Aulus snorted, "multi-tasking is an important life skill... You want me to show you the pool then, or can you find it yourself?" He wouldn't mind showing the older man the way, but if he didn't need showing then there was no point wasting time. The sooner he got onto his next job the sooner he could get to the next, and the next, and then finish for the day. Have a nice work out. Swim to cool off. Train Tortie a bit. Maybe watch a movie in the rec rooms. It wasn't so bad here really, sure the work was boring and a pain but the recreational facilities were the best he'd ever had acess to.
