If she noticed his desire to hit her, she didn't show it at all.
She slipped the note into her own pocket after a small sigh, lowering her hand to gesture vaguely past them and towards the cafeteria. "Alright," she replied in quiet, slightly defeated tones, "cafeteria's that way." At least she could make sure Lucas was alright. She knew he was horribly bored cooped up in his room all the time, but he needed to rest. He needed to get over this concussion and get his senses back before she lost hers.

That guy was loud in addition to being confusing. Kind of abrasive too. Lucas wasn't one hundred percent sure what to make of him, but at the time being he was advocating dinner and that made him an okay guy.
Nope, she really was upset. Crap. Lucas nodded, starting in the gestured direction - not that he had forgotten how to get the cafeteria, of course - and falling into line slightly behind Claire. He really was stupid, wasn't he? He'd need to apologize somehow...

...She was supposed to snap back or something. Worn out wasn't really something he knew how to work with. Wasn't his fault though, and wasn't his problem. No reason to think about it... He did owe her for recruiting him he supposed, but it wasn't like he had any idea what would make her feel better, other than Lucas doing as she'd told him. What was wrong with the guy anyway? There was clearly something going on with him, but what that could be Aulus hadn't the faintest idea.
Before too long, however, the smell of the cafeteria reached his nostrils causing his stomach to growl again, and his focus to wander off Claire and Lucas onto what might be for dinner. "So is there a queue like for school dinners?" Aulus asked as they neared the doors he assumed led into the cafeteria. "What's the food like here anyway?" Everyone he'd seen looked pretty fit, so the bulk of it had to be nourishing even if it didn't taste fantastic. He supposed he could live with bland but basically decent food given that yesterday he'd been worrying about how he would afford to get any food for himself at all within a couple of weeks.

The only snapping that could happen to Claire at the moment was possibly the snapping of her sanity. Thankfully, though, it remained in tact for the time being, so she walked with the pair to the cafeteria. "It's not too bad," she replied, the smell of food making her stomach grumble but she had absolutely no desire to eat anything at the moment. "It gets busy around mealtimes, but other than that not really. If the kitchen is empty or it's late you can go in and make stuff yourself, it's big enough." Like when she made cookies and manicotti for Lucas. Speaking of... She turned to regard the concussed man and his Chimecho. "What do you want to eat, Lucas?"

Lucas followed silently, Merry remaining attached to his wrist. He heard them speaking words, but they didn't pertain to him much if at all, and so he tuned it out. And then he did hear his name and he looked up, staring momentarily as he attempted to interpret the question. What was the right answer? Was there a right answer? Maybe if he just let her decide... "Anything is fine. Whatever's easy."

There was no queue out of the door, so maybe it wasn't dinnertime right now? On the plus side that meant that they could cook what they wanted (he guessed that most ingredients were communal?), but that did mean that food would not be instant, and that he would probably have to do some clearing up. "I guess we're cooking then?" Aulus speculated as they approached the doors. "That sounds like... an adventure. I've got to warn you I'm not exactly a culinary king; I can do basic stuff but noting more fancy than a curry or a chilli."
Maybe one of the others was better at cooking... Make that maybe Claire was; right now all Lucas seemed capable of doing was walking in a vaguely straight line towards the smell of food. Well, he had no intention of going out of his way for the man; Lucas might have forgotten the spine breaking comment but he hadn't. If Claire wanted to cook something together, fine, they could do a bit extra for her daft semi-sibling, but if all the cooking was down to him then he was damn well cooking for him... Maybe with some extra for Claire, and maybe he'd find some leftovers from somewhere for Lucas. That last one was a very big maybe though. Psycho.

"Alright," she agreed, reaching up to put a hand on Merry and to gently push Lucas' shoulder towards a booth. "Go sit down and we'll go make something, alright?"
Something easy, something easy... something easy especially because Aulus wasn't a master chef either. "That makes two of us," she said ruefully. "Umm.. Pasta?" Pasta was easy, didn't take long at all, and it was probably the fanciest and best meal she could cook. Other meals consisted of grilled cheese sandwiches and scrambled eggs. Maybe one or two other things. "Spaghetti, or ziti or something?" She asked, gaze looking between them both for some sort of suggestion or agreement or something.

Go sit in the corner, Lucas, you're too useless to help with this. Some part of him knew that it was childish of him, but he was offended. So maybe it was a bad idea to handle knives or something, but he could at least boil water or stir things or... something. But Claire was unhappy with him, and he was vaguely aware that arguing would only make her more unhappy. So, with a quiet sigh of both frustration and resignation, he proceeded to the indicated booth and took a seat, immediately folding his arms on the table and resting his head on them. His eyes almost instantly - if not completely unintentionally - unfocused, and he stared forward with a serene, disaffected gaze.

At the suggested pasta-related options Aulus grunted and shrugged his broad shoulders. "Spaghetti," he said after a moment, more for the sake of making a decision than out of preference for one over the other. "Are there jars of sauce anyway, or if not canned tomatoes and some herbs or cheese or something to make it a bit more interesting?"
He'd never cooked with other people before. At home, at his parents' house that was, the cooking had always been taken care of by one of the maids, and when he'd had to do his own cooking at University he'd never shared the job with anyone else. The closest he'd ever come was having Vivian watch him make dinner for them... Vivian. Damnit, he hadn't thought about her in days. Anger began to boil up within him again at the recollection of her angelic, deceptive smile. If he ever saw her again his hands would be around that slender neck of hers in a heartbeat. Jaw and fists clenched, Aulus cast around the kitchen for something he could take a bit of his frustration out on in the short term but he didn't spot anything suitable. Damn. He really wanted something to hit right now.

As she watched Lucas resign himself to sitting at the booth she couldn't help but sigh in frustration was well, running a hand through her hair as she followed Aulus into the kitchen. Lucas was perfectly capable of cooking when in his right mind, she knew, but right now... It was really just preferable for him to be sitting at a table instead of in a kitchen full of potentially dangerous objects. She didn't need him passing out onto a hot stove or falling onto a knife or something.
"There should be jars of sauce in the pantry with the boxes of spaghetti, and parmesan cheese in the fridge," she said idly, though she was already in the pantry getting said sauce and noodles, so she completely missed his tensed reaction to thoughts of his ex. Thankfully that was one topic not on her mind, because if it was it might very well have exploded.

"Pantry," he murmured, though not at any volume that he could be heard. Nonetheless, he was mildly proud of this knowledge. It was something he had learned from his dreams of the scarred man whom, he was beginning to realize, bore the quite the resemblance to himself. He'd have to ask Claire about it when he found her... It wasn't infrequently that she showed up in his dreams at the man's side.

"Right," Aulus responded tightly, "pantry. I'll get stuff, you start the water." Stupid bloody Vivian was not going to spoil his supper. Scowling and rubbing the scar on his face, Aulus headed off in search of ingredients. On arrival, unsurprisingly, he discovered that most things were in industrial quantities. In one massive fridge he managed to locate a large jar of sauce that was half empty, along with a partial block of what (after a sniff) he identified as parmesan. Nice. He supposed there would be a revolt if decent enough food wasn't available though; it would be cheaper for TR to keep cuisine just above 'basic' levels than to quell food related unrest. After locating a large bag of spaghetti, Aulus turned and headed back to join Claire feeling very slightly less furious than he had a moment ago.
"Here," Aulus said as he stepped back into the kitchen proper. "Cheese, sauce, and spaghetti. There's quite a variety of stuff in there, I hate to say it but I'm pleasantly surprised." A good meal made most things in life easier to bear. Stupid evil ex girlfriends. Stupid new roomates who you'd already managed to alienate. Stupid stupidness. Food would make him feel much better, or at least it had better make him feel better or... Or something. Maybe he'd floor one of his roomates again, because that had been so constructive earlier on.

Normally she would've gotten snippy at being told what to do by someone she barely knew who was one - two now, actually - ranks below her. Normally she would actually enjoy cooking. Normally she didn't have to deal with a concussed Lucas, and it was absolutely exhausting. As much as she cared for him, it was exhausting, although she didn't want to admit it. Physical tiredness she could deal with. Emotional or mental? No thanks.
As it was, she was still worn out so she obliged and found a pot, filled it with water and put it on the stove. The heat was set rather higher than she normally would set it, so it would boil faster. "There is," she agreed absently, too busy with her thoughts to really focus on much. "Quite a variety of different pastas and the like, I don't normally make much else. I made manicotti the other day," this said as she took fistfuls of the dried spaghetti noodles and broke them in half before dumping them into the water so they'd fit into the pot better and not end up as horrendously long noodles once fully cooked. The water wasn't exactly boiling quite yet, but it was close enough at this point, so she turned the heat down just a bit. "It was interesting. I'd never made it before."

Mm, manicotti. Lucas didn't really know what they were talking about, but he recognized that as a good word. Had either of the other Rockets noticed him, they would have found his eyes closed, his expression signifying that he was teetering on slumber if not already asleep.

"Hu. Never made it either," Aulus said, leaning back against a worktop. "Not entirely sure what it is... It's pasta sort of stuffed with cheese or meat or something, right?"
...Why was she snapping the spaghetti?
Why was she snapping the spaghetti?
He liked long spaghetti, and she'd just gone and... Aulus forced himself to seethe internally; Claire looked about ready to drop, and as she was the only person he knew on base that he could stand at all, he didn't want to be the straw that broke her back. Fine. Short spaghetti was fine. It was stupid to be angry about her snapping it so that it was short and stupid and... Okay, no, calm. Pasta product, not the end of the world. Fine. Whatever.
"Nice to have variety," Aulus said after some moments, forcing his brain onto a different track. "I guess all the way out here it's not exactly easy to drop down to the shops or to a cafe if nothing on offer really takes your fancy... Have to see about getting myself transport. I don't want to have to bed lifts ever three seconds. Can you borrow vehicles, or flying pokemon or something?" That would be useful, but it would still be nice to have his own.
