The words warrior, fantasy and medieval quickly allowed for the child to begin relating the mice to knights with a duty to protect. They were different, but that didn't mean they couldn't be knights: just like her dear Mister Birdy and Big Kitty. They certainly were very knightly, rescuing her indefinitely it seemed. She couldn't help but wish they were there to read the book with her. Surely they could enjoy a book about other animals!

Soon her mind drifted as she thought about the book and the words of the man who had given it to her as she stared intently at the cover, the binding and even the back. It was a decent sized book, and forgetting all about Alice in Wonderland for the moment she carefully flipped open the book to find a curious world inside. She might have been lost in the world had she not heard mention of twenty-something more of these books.

"Does the library have them? The other ones?"

If she liked this one, she'd want to read them all and for that she had to be prepared!

Ever looked much-too-pleased with himself, maybe even a little smug, with her reply, and he immediately turned back to the shelf. Fingers walking along the spines of books, he pulled out four of the first five in the series and eyed the rest of the shelf in a thoughtful way.

"Um. Some of them have already been taken out, I think, but we have a bunch, at the very least." And then his eyes resettled on her, a sudden burst of confidence washing through him and the corner of his mouth turning up in a smile.

"And I'm pretty sure we can get the rest from other libraries, if they're not here, within reach?" Not that he knew how to do that, exactly, but certainly Tony did.

Her clear eyes were carefully following the man's hands as they moved along the binding of the books, and then pulled several off the shelf. Was he going to take down twenty-something books? No. He had stopped and her eyes froze on him as she listened to him. They didn't have anymore? The child had nearly forgotten you could take books out of the library, usually opting to stay at the library to read and was surprised to hear that they were being borrowed. However, she was even more surprised at what came next.

"There are other libraries?" She said as she nearly dropped the Redwall book she had in her arms, flailing to carefully catch the book and the plush bunny that both nearly toppled to the ground. It took a moment to regain composure but when she did she gave a soft smile. The thought had never occurred to the child that there might be other wonderful library worlds. What a wonderful thought.

The question obviously took Ever by surprise -- fading to something like bewilderment, trying to decide if the girl was serious or not. And then, once he'd established she was, trying to remember a time when he hadn't known 'library' as an abstract term, as something more than just one place. He couldn't remember any such time, but perhaps a bilingual upbringing -- and rather focused parental home schooling -- had educated him more than most children got from their public education.

Like a fish, he opened and closed his mouth for another moment before shutting it and shrugging, helplessly, down at her. "Yes?" He didn't mean it to be sarcastic, but his nature was his nature.

"Just uh. You have your card, right?" He pointed at the book, a rolling little gesture, and took a step back toward his cart of things to not put away in a timely manner. "That'll probably take you a while. Maybe parents will help, if you don't get any of the words? And come find me when you need the second."

He said yes, right? He did! The child hugged the book tight as she seemed to gleam at the thought of there really being more than just this library in the city. She didn't ever recall passing another, although she had only been in the city for a couple months and had barely traveled outside a specific area range which consisted of the downtown area, and from her house to the school and library.

All good things must come to an end though and soon the child's eyes looked downward. Parents. He said parents. She frowned, thinking about her dearest mother and father, wondering where they were at this moment. Were they happy? Did they miss her? Would they come get her soon? She did not know the answer to these questions and the child made the assumption that only her parents would be able to help her which only seemed to add to her dismay. What would she do if she stumbled into problems reading the book if she didn't have parents to help her?

Nothing.

No, that didn't seem right.

There seemed to be a pause in her dismay. A thought that almost had been forgotten: there were animals in this book waiting to come out and they certainly weren't going to come out while the cover was closed as she worried. It hadn't happened, and maybe it wouldn't. She'd worry about it after the fact. Yes. A small smile came back to the child's face as she looked up at the young adult.

"Thank you, I will find you when I need the next one. Goodbye," she said as she made a quick curtsy, moving her arm to make Octavian Oswald wave goodbye to him before she shuffled down the hall. It would be Ever's own downfall for saying that. She would come back when she was done and she would look for him when she needed the next one, and only him. He had told her to find him when she was done, after all, and that's what she'd do.
