Despite what she said, Jericho couldn't help but be somewhat amused at the image of Riley commanding hundreds of these cats to do her bidding. He wasn't sure if it was hilarious, epic, or kind of scary. Perhaps it was a mixture of all of the above. That whimsical thought faded as things became somewhat more serious regarding her happiness with being enrolled here. Turning onto his side so he could face her better, he shifted his wings and frowned.

"I don't see how you can say we'd be better off without you around, Riley. You're a great friend. And besides, what's wrong with wanting to be here?"

If only he knew the 'grand scheme' of the Mindflayer's purpose at the school. Though, his thoughts likely wouldn't change much even if he did know of them. Smirking at her last comment, he simply shook his head.

"I don't give up my treasures so easily."

Riley chuckled, and flicked a coin at his face, then rolled her eyes. You know what they say, though. All that glitters.. She clenched one of his coins in her fist, pressing the hard metal against her skin painfully. Then, she sat up straight and gave him a curious look.

I've always wondered.. you and I. Our kind don't live so far apart. You must have heard about us.. hell knows we have a lot of information on dragons. What, ah.. what do the dragons know about mindflayers?

Looking at Riley thoughtfully, Jericho tried to recall everything he had heard of her kind.

"Not a whole lot... but I have heard a number of stories. Illithid Mindflayers are a race of powerful psionic demons, said to have come from the far realm ages ago; the stronger ones are even capable of mind control.. or completely demolishing someone's mind. They feed on brains.." he said before pausing, "One green dragon whose territory was close to ours claimed one of her brother's-cousin's-daughter's hatchlings was taken by an Illithid. Something about a host.... but I don't really know all the details there."

Shaking his head, he sat up now, not really able to recall much else, "The purples probably know more of your kind is my guess. Though... I vaguely remember the pictures I've seen.. looked a little different from how you look now."

((JERICHO WHY DIDN'T YOU ROLL HIGHER?! YOU COULD HAVE BEEN MORE IMPRESSSIVE))

Jericho's knowledge base of her kind, or, perhaps, lack thereof, comforted her. She slunk back down onto the treasure, resting her head on her arm as she laid on her side. Mm. Yes. You're not the only one with a natural form. She murmured, while one finger tapped against her skull pin. Though your transformation is infinitely more impressive than mine, I can assure you. She stretched her arms out above her head, and a vibrating emitted from her mind in lieu of a yawn.

One of her tentacles slid down beneath the treasure hoard, digging for a moment, before it found a rusted crown. It pulled it's prize out and placed the crown on Riley's head. You have so much fun stuff. Riley mused as she toyed with a string of jewels.

"Maybe so.. but it's hard to top a dragon," he grinned, "I wouldn't mind seeing your natural form sometime, if you're willing to show it."

Jericho's eyes shifted towards the crown now on Riley's head and chuckled as she played with some of the jewels in his pile as well.

"I'd hope so. I do my best to gather up some nice stuff when I can," he said, "By the way... what do your kind know of us Reds? I imagine quite a bit seeing how there's a lot less mystery surrounding my kind than your own."

Riley pulled up a few stray facts about the red dragon that her kind had experienced - unsurprisingly, there was little she could not have figured out on her own just from knowing Jericho long enough.

You've actually exhibited almost all of the traits of a red dragon that we know about, already. One might say even if I had no previous knowledge, I would know the same amount about you. Fire breathing, loves heat, hates cold, easily angered, She reached out and grabbed his nose between two fingers, and her voice sounded a little childish at the next words - and just so adorably stubborn. She chuckled and let him go. Not to mention the whole, treasure hoarder thing. Which, by the way, is a trait I particularly like. It means you have such pretty things. She slipped the string of jewels around her wrist.

Grinning, Jericho had an air of pride about him as Riley listed off the traits. He may have a lot of what was typical of a red dragon, but he was proud of that fact. In his opinion, the reds were the best, anyway. Chuckling, he rubbed his nose and nodded to her.

"I'm glad my treasure isn't just appreciated by myself. Though.. I've mentioned that pretty much only you're allowed to touch it, right?" he asked while tilting his head. The dragon didn't trust anyone else to not just... run off with pieces of his treasure should they come in contact with it. And here the Mindflayer was, trying some of it on.

"Speaking of... I'll let you take one thing from here."
PostPosted: Fri Feb 25, 2011 5:17 pm

You have! I'm honored that you trust me with that which you hold precious. She reached up and tipped the crown at him, her eyes bending to crescents in amusement. She loved playing with the treasure when she came to visit, but only partially because it was pretty. It was mostly for the reason that Jericho was very touchy about it, and trusted her enough to be comfortable with her, that made her want to do it. Any dragon who trusts you enough to toy with his treasure is a rare treasure in it's own right.

When he offered to let her take something, she tilted her head slightly. It was one thing to be comfortable touching his treasure, but another entirely to take from it. She knew full well the kind of sacrifice that meant to a dragon, and leaned in to bump her forehead against his. Chuckling, she murmured, But I already have the one treasure I want, and it outshines any coin or crown.

The dragon was mildly surprised to hear her answer, and his eyes softened as a result. Smiling, he chuckled lightly and nodded, "Well my scales can glisten in the right lighting."

Thinking back to what she had said earlier on, he leaned back against his treasure pile, relaxing. Idly, his fingers dug around the coins at his side, fiddling with them now as well.

"You know. You're probably the best friend I've ever had. So... I'm really happy you've come to this school instead of going to some other place," he said lightly.

Riley had temporary gotten distracted as one of her tentacles had dug in deep enough to find a neverending string of pearls. It just kept going, and going, and-

She looked up at Jericho, and her eyes brightened in lieu of a grin. Well, I can say without question that you're -definitely- the best friend I've ever had. I wish that meant as much, though.. we don't get to make friends in the hive. If things had been different, though.. I'm sure you'd still hold rank at the top of the list for best. She nodded once, just as she plucked the last pearl out. At the end of the string was a little metal box, hanging loosely. She plucked the box off of the string, and turned it around in her hand. It's kind of funny to think about, though. This school has quite the knack for bringing together odd couples. A dragon and a mindflayer - a year ago, I would have thought our friendship impossible. Now, it's impossible to think otherwise. She poked an indentation on the little metal box with one claw, and a little metal toy dragon popped out. You find the best things where you least expect them.

Raising a brow as she tugged away at a rather long string of pearls, Jericho watched her briefly before looking up towards her. It still was hard for him to comprehend what it was like at her home. He knew little of the mindflayer ways, and they had such a different culture than his own.

"That's for sure," he agreed with a grin, though it faded some as he thought about this a little longer.

"Come to think of it, I don't think my parents would really like the thought of having an Illithid friend. Not that their opinion would change anything here."
PostPosted: Fri Feb 25, 2011 6:50 pm

Parents. Riley pictured two giant, fire breathing dragons, looking down at her disapprovingly, and snickered. No, I highly doubt they would approve of me. My father wouldn't approve of me having friends at all, no matter what kind. Sufficed to say, he can go to heaven as far as I'm concerned. Her scandalous talk made her giddy, and she laughed freely.

She picked up a coin, and read the writing on it. Tell me a story, Jericho. She murmured quietly. About a time you went looking for treasure. The coin fell into her palm, and she clenched it. Was it terribly exciting? Did you kill anyone?

There was something intimating at the thought of having a disapproving Mindflayer on him. It might have been because his own mind could probably be crushed by said Illithid if he wasn't careful. It wasn't as if he was afraid of the thought, but he didn't exactly have a way to defend himself from a psionic attack.

Jericho wasn't too surprised that her father wouldn't be approving of any of this though, given her previous statement regarding friends.

At her request, his eyes gleamed for a moment. Now he was trying to figure out what story to tell. Shifting on the treasure again, he appeared thoughtful as he scanned his memories for a worthy tale to tell.

"It was one of the first times I had strayed from our territory to explore what was beyond our borders. I wasn't too far away, at least for traveling by air, when there was a small band of sorts down below. Elves! It seemed like they were in a hurry too, which was a pity since they were burned by all the things they were carrying," he explained, "One fled at the sight of me, while the other two decided to try and hold their ground. They didn't stand much of a chance and fell quickly to my flames."

Grinning, he turned and started to fish around his treasure for something in particular. A moment or two later, he produced an simple ring and a silver amulet of sort.

"They didn't have a whole lot on them, and it wasn't really anything spectacular... but it was the first time I've ever looted anything on my own."

Jericho's story was captivating. And.. it made Riley hungry. Mmm, elves.. She laid back on the treasure, and rubbed her stomach. I miss the old days. I haven't seen an elf in six years.. Her eyes opened and she looked up at the amulet. It wasn't something she recognized, but it was clearly elven, and that made it special.

This body was a drow. Not that it should have been much of a surprise, but she didn't know exactly how much Jericho knew about a mindflayers preferred choice of host. She was seven when I was born. Ohh, elven brains. They live so long, and it ripens them so well. She sounded distracted, distant, as she remembered the delicacy. Her eyes turned sharply to her friend, and she blinked.

I'm not.. freaking you out, am I? I'll stop, if I am.

Jericho hadn't known that her body was that of a drow's, but when he thought about it, it made sense. The drow dwelled in the underdark which was where the mindflayers were said to live as well. A part of him wondered just how often the purple dragons encountered her kind..

"No it's fine," he said with a chuckle, "You're bound to like some brains better than others. Elves have a bit of an odd taste to me from what I've gathered that day. Kinda stringy. Definitely better than orcs though."

Thinking back on that, he let out a content sigh. That day was probably his proudest moment as he actually earned the shiny, rather than having been given it by his parents or from the kobolds.

"This talk of food is making me hungrier..." he added. The scent of burnt flesh still lingered in the air, which just added to the feeling.
