"Yes," his voice was gentle as he spoke. "Diavolos. I call him Sippy. He's a little raccoon. I found him one day, being chased and threatened to be eaten. I saved him, and instead of going on his way he decided he was going to stay with me forever."
He paused as he thought of Sippy, "Sometimes he's annoying. But he's always there, even when I hated myself. He never left me, never hated me and always trusted me with his life. That kind of loyalty is rare."

Sol listened with a tentative sort of interest to Karloff's story. She would have loved to sit and listen to him tell her about his life's adventures. They would make very fine stories indeed. "Curious... what drove you to save this particular... Sippy? Surely racoons are caught and eaten every day- it is the nature of things. Very curious indeed..."
Then, as he talked about loyalty, there was a soft sparkle in Sol's eyes... something rather akin to pride. It was difficult for Sol to express herself most of the time, but her emotions occasionally shone through her eyes. "That is very wise, my son. Loyalty is definitely not something to take for granted..." then she trailed off and looked back out at the valley the stretched out below the cliff-edge.

"There has always been a part of me that wanted to kill to drink blood. Not because I desired flesh, but because...it would be easier to get the blood. I knew that if I started, I would never stop. I don't want to be a monster when I've finally discovered that I don't have to be one. So I try to stop bad things. It might not make a difference to the grand scheme of things but it has to Sippy and to me. That's what matters. And I know that even if he wasn't so loyal, I wouldn't be sad I'd saved it."
He smiles and looks over to Solienna seeing the pride in his eyes.

Soileana nodded faintly at his words; they made sense- though Sol could never see herself doing such. It was not that she didn't feel remorse for the hunted or the plagued... it was more that she couldn't feel it. But that is what happens to those who learn to accept all and never question fate. Not that she would ever say as much to her son. Perhaps it was fate for Karl to have saved the raccoon from what would have been it's deathly fate. In that case, the fate of one decides the fate of another... So interesting, how the strings of fate tied every being together until it became a knotted mess that only the most skilled of weavers could see through.
Composing herself, Sol decided to take a leap of faith... a different path than usual... perhaps... perhaps something good would come of treading off the path she already saw laying before her. Turning to Karl she commented softly, "It would please me greatly to meet your mate, my son." Was this the right thing to do? Sol had never had reason to question her actions before...

Karloff could feel his heart swell with pride. The mare who had been as close to a mother as he'd ever had wanted to meet the mare he loved with all his heart and loved him despite himself. "That would please me greatly. She'll be happy to meet you. And so will Sippy." He laughed lightly and happily.
