The first thing Amantine said to her son was "What the Jack is wrong with you?"

To which Ren replied, somewhat boredly, "Many, many things. Haven't we already discussed this a thousand times, Mother? My hair is wrong, my attitude is wrong, my eyes are wrong, my freckles are dumb, my habits are dull, yada yada yada. Can we move past Lecture #234234 and let me go back to LW?"

His mother was looking thunderstruck. Anger, however, quickly replaced the shock. "That...that girl," she hissed out, voice low. "She is a total tramp. A scoundrel. You cannot parade around the school with something like - like that. How do you expect to make any good connections if you are waltzing all around Amittyville attached to creatures like her? This is exactly why your father and I are prohibiting you from going back. You will stay at home and you will do what you are told, Renaissance."

The entire time Amantine was talking, Ren was examining his nails carefully, face screwed up in concentration as he waited for her to finish whatever it was that he was saying. When the gryphoness finally seemed to take a breath, Ren glanced over at her, still with the same bored expression.

"Are you quite finished yet?" he asked, tilting his head. "Because I'd really like to get back to LW now. You know. Give her a tour of the place. Maybe do a little dance on the kitchen table, make a little noise, the usual."

Amantine's mouth opened and shut, but no sound came out except a wordless gasp of outrage. Finally she managed to spit out "Renaissance. How dare you - "

He leaned closer, a smirk crossing his features. "Next time you're bribing someone to go to school, you might wanna rethink your strategy."

Giving his mother a mock salute, Ren's wings extended and he pushed himself backwards, alighting on the sleek marble floor. "Now if you'll excuse me, Mother dearest, I have places to go, people to see~" Amantine was still standing there, obviously stunned into silence and Ren winked at her before soaring up the twisting staircase to find LW. The shewolf wasn't in his room, but he did hear a familiar voice coming from his sister's room...Ren folded his wings against his back, slipping silently towards the door, stopping just before he reached the doorway.

"...who are you?"

Medieval's voice. Ren leaned against the wall just outside of his sister's room, folding his arms across his chest.

One foot crossed the threshold of the gryphoness' door and then the other. Her tail was lightly dragging on the floor, keeping her partner in crime hidden. She could feel the mimic rolling along next to her. Violet eyes widened when she first laid eyes on the owner of the beautiful voice that spoke. LW had to pause and blink slowly, throwing off her innocent expression for seconds. Put freckles on her face and you could mistaken the two. Well...almost. There were a couple things that Ren didn't have that this female did.

Recovering quickly, LW offered up a shy smile. "I...forgive me. I was looking around. Thought he said middle door." The she-wolf muttered the last part, like she hadn't meant to say it. Obviously, this was not the case.

"Oh!" Somehow, she managed to force herself to blush. "My name is LW." The she-wolf stepped cautiously a little further into the room, eyes scanning its interior. When they fell back on the gryphoness, she gave her a slow look. Would...that admiring look she was casting her have the right effect? "Wow." LW breathed. "I thought your mother was very pretty but..." she glanced over her shoulder for a minute before tilting her head conspiratorially towards Medieval. "I think you have her beat by a long shot." If you had to put a name to the look she was casting towards Ren's dear sister, it was probably something close to interested. But not quite enough to make someone uncomfortable.

While the she-wolf was talking, her tail had slowly brushed along the floor as the mimic rolled away to perch somewhere just out of eyesight but still in plain view. His eye opened to a slant while he watched his lady master. He knew what he was supposed to wait for. But this was boring so far. A little. Maybe.

Deciding it was time to be a little more forward, LW stepped closer to the gryphoness. "You're hair..." she said in a soft voice. "It's so beautiful." A few fingers lightly ran through some strands of gold. "And soft." Her voice softened some more as she slid closer. The she-wolf trapped her gaze with her violet one and let her fingers move until they were lightly rubbing circles along her neck. "You're...just so perfect." This was all but whispered to Medieval, faces mere inches apart. For one half a second, violet eyes flashed to the side and spotted the mimic. Then she leaned in just a little and let her lips meet the gryphoness'. That hidden passionate side of her kicked in and she let the kiss start sweet and slowly, teasingly work up to something a little more than Medieval probably would have planned. If her brain had reconnected yet. Hopefully she was fast enough to dodge any hits and make it out the door safely.

Billy Bob, using his wily ways, rolled and managed to launch himself up onto what looked to be the feathered one's dresser. Or something. It had a mirror. And makeup next to it. Rolling around, he placed himself juuust right so that when the gryphoness moved to stare in the mirror, he would be ready.

The shriek Ren heard from Medieval really was quite impressive.

"EEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Man, she's got a set of lungs, Ren thought, idly reaching up to straighten the collar of his shirt. I had no idea she could scream that loudly. I'll have to remember that for future use.

He had an inkling of what exactly had happened. Though he couldn't hear exactly what LW had been saying, the shewolf had lowered her voice to a low, nearly seductive purr, while Medieval's had been getting steadily louder, high pitched in shock.

Ren gave it a few more seconds. Then he pushed himself off of the wall and stepped into the room.

LW was standing on one side, looking completely and totally innocent as she twirled a strand of her hair around one finger. On the other side was Ren's sister, pressed up against the desk in what looked like a desperate attempt to get as far away from the shewolf as humanly possible. Her golden eyes - the same shade as Ren's - were wide with horror when they turned to stare at him.

"What," she said slowly, voice shaking with anger and humiliation. " - the JACKING HELL is WRONG with you, Renaissance? Who the HELL is this ghoul?"

Medieval was Ren's twin in every sense of the word except for one thing - family. Born within three minutes of each other, Medieval looked exactly like her brother; sleek golden hair cut to just above her shoulders, a slender, toned body with darkened skin, same height, same eyes. The only thing different were the freckles; Ren was the only member of his family to have been born with them. Neither of his parents had them, which meant that at birth Ren had been considered an abomination. His mother and father still sometimes looked at him with expressions of disgust; once it had bothered him, made him lock himself up in his room and want to rip them from his body.

Not anymore. Ren schooled his features into a casual expression, leaning against the wall.

"Hello, Medieval," he said lightly. "Nice to see you too." He gave a small nod towards LW. "That would be my best friend, Little Wolfe. I see you've already made her acquaintance."

Medieval looked positively stunned. "Best friend?" she repeated, as if the word itself was disgusting. "WHAT kind of PEOPLE do you associate with?! She k-k-ki - "

Ren lifted a brow. "She said hello, you mean?" He shrugged, casting a wink at LW. "That's just how they say hello in wolf."

As soon as she felt the signs of one gryphoness' brain fully connecting, LW smiled against those lush lips, threw in a nibble, and ducked to the side. With lithe movements she was out of range and looked like nothing out of the ordinary had happened. Violet eyes widened and her tail flicked once in a cringe at how loud this ghouls could shriek. When it finally ended, the she-wolf's ears were STILL RINGING. Candlejack. Next time she attempted this, she would get some earplugs.

Next time. Oh she was already plotting future visits with Ren to see his family. This was just...too much fun! Serves them all right. She thought. They treated Ren so poorly. It was about time they got a little payback. Werewolf style.

Her gaze flicked from Medieval, a quick glance at her dresser, then landed on Ren. She just gave him that angelic expression while he conversed with his sister. LW hadn't lied to the gryphoness when she said she thought Medieval was beautiful. She was. But the she-wolf liked the freckles that scattered Ren's body. Those just topped anything she had seen here so far.

Taking small steps on silent feet, LW casually moved towards the door but stopped before reaching it and Ren. Pivoting to face the gryphoness, she plastered on a huge cheesy grin that sort of looked apologetic. Ren would see through it though.

"Yep. We're besties. And he's right." She winked. "We wolves apparently have different ways then is the norm for saying hello." Another pause without a wink though. "And in answer to your question, of what kind of people we, his friends are..." the barest hint of animosity crept into her gaze, which she hid from Ren (or tried to). LW shrugged lightly, that quick flash disappearing from her eyes. "WE are just people who love Ren for who he is."

Moving to finally stand next to her best friend, LW tilted her head and eyed Medieval. "By the way, dear. You are a fantastic kisser." That tail of hers lightly thumped against Ren's legs in her amusement. "Also, might want to check the lower lip. I may have gotten a little too enthusiastic with the kiss." Winking, she ducked away from Ren and out the door to stand in the hallway in front of the door to his room. If his sister was anything like she suspected, she'd be jumping to check that mirror and her lip. With BB patiently waiting.

Medieval's horrified expression was too priceless. Ren only wished he had a camera to save the moment forever, but seeing as he didn't, imprinting it permanently into his mind would just have to do.

"'Besties?'" his sister repeated, as if the very word were disgusting to her. "What the Jack does that even mean? Is that even a real word? What the Jack - who do you think you are - "

By now LW had pranced back over to the door, the last remnants of her biting words still ringing in the air. To be honest, Ren had been somewhat surprised by them. "WE are just people who love Ren for who he is" still resonated, and a stupidly pleased flush had dashed across his cheeks momentarily, a feeling of warm happiness threading throughout him. There was no real feeling quite like the ones LW, Gabrian, and Alessa gave him; no real duplication of just how much it meant to him to hear words like that spoken to him, about him. Ren had long since given up on ever believing he could have a family, but he had neglected to realize that there were several types of family. Family was a broken thing; rough and unforgiving and heartless. So, to him, LW and the rest were better than family, though what exactly they did count Ren was not quite certain of.

Whatever the reason, he liked it. A lot.

Once LW was gone from the room, Medieval turned a golden glare his direction, staring daggers at her brother. "Oooh," Ren said, tail flicking behind him, examining his nails again as if bored by the whole situation. "That's not a very good look right there. It's a good thing you really can't shoot daggers with your eyes, otherwise I might have a little problem."

"What the JACK is wrong with you?!" Medieval hissed, advancing towards him, her hands clenched into fists. "How could you bring that - that THING back here? Is that the kind of person you associate with? How can you call that a friend?"

Ren leveled a gaze to his sister. "She's better than you ever were."

Ignoring the gasp of shock and outrage, Ren pivoted, disappearing out the door to where LW was waiting. He flashed the shewolf an immensely amused smile, slinging an arm around her shoulders and walking down the hallway, reaching the top of the stairs within a few seconds.

"EEEAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT THE JACKING HELL - ?!"

Ren grinned. "Nice, LW. Nice. Now what say we go and celebr - "

"Renaissance."

He froze, jerking to a stop, one foot raised to take a step down. The voice was low, gravely, and familiar, and Ren felt as if ice was suddenly coursing through his veins. There was a figure standing at the foot of the stairs - an all too familiar figure with grey streaked hair and red eyes that sparked like two chips of fire. Ren swallowed hard.

"F-father," he said, his hand falling limply to his side. "W...welcome home."
PostPosted: Tue Feb 22, 2011 9:00 pm

Being just a little distracted, LW missed seeing the warmth that spread along Ren's cheeks. Otherwise she would have nudged him playfully. Maybe. That might make his sister lay an egg or something. Best not to do that. Although when she saw BB she might do more than lay an egg. The mimic just had that...charm about him.

Out of the room, she let out a soft giggle that was too low for anyone to hear. Served that prissy fluff of feathers right! The she-wolf couldn't help but compare just how uptight her best friends family was compared to her own. Maybe she should take Ren down to meet them sometime? He'd enjoy that. They were nothing like...well this! That same earlier pang of...something, sadness maybe?...returned. He really had been living in a hell hole here. She was very glad and didn't think she had to words to express just how glad, that their quartet had found each other. Their own little family.

She watched as Ren appeared from Medieval's room. The look on his face made her give him a very warm smile. It was nice to see that smile on his face and not the grim look he'd been trying to hide earlier. LW easily fit against his side when he slung an arm around her shoulders and tilted her head up to give him an angelic expression. When she heard the second screech, that smile morphed into the devilish one. "Guess she just can't appreciate the handsome charm of a mimic..."

Said mimic narrowed its eye at such a loud sound before it darted first towards the one that had screeched at it. His smile was dangerous before he just...seemed to disappear. The gryphoness would probably be paranoid for a while that he was still in her room, but alas he was not. He rolled his way to his lady master and managed to lodge himself back under the leg warmer she wore. This was much easier to do when she had stopped moving. He didn't know the reason as to why though and didn't really care.

LW heard it. Something in that voice. It sent the hair at the back of her neck standing on end and a chill down her spine. But that was nothing compared the the feeling in her gut when Ren froze. Her best friend. This terrified? It was something she had never expected to see. Not like this. And it instantly made her gut tighten. If he was this afraid of that male...

Once bright and amused violet eyes gazed straight into the burning red ones with a feral look. Don't show fear. It was a lesson she had learned as a pup. Fear paralyzed. And got you killed. But so did being too rash. Find that in between. And for the good of all, don't shoot your mouth off! Too bad she and her brothers always failed that one when it came to being riled up.

Especially when it came to defending someone they cared about.

"Huh...I was expecting...something more." Her voice was drawled out and lacked all the playful banter in it. This was all wolf sizing up another predator. "Perhaps I should have lowered my standards. Then I wouldn't have been so disappointed." The tip of her tail twitched, not quite so in motion and her weight rested on the balls of her feet. Easier to move faster. And she had no doubt being the faster creature would be the deciding factor if things went south. Which she believed could happen if the vibes she was picking up off of this...father figure was anything to go by. "My mistake." The she-wolf said low, not completely masking the hidden underlying meaning to her words. Gryphon's were smart, weren't they? At least Ren was.

Abaddon was not a very tall man, but what he lacked in height he made up for in sheer strength. A stocky, muscular form, barely lined face, shoulder length golden hair streaked with grey, as well as a golden goatee, the only thing that set Abaddon apart from the rest of his family were his eyes. The red was normal for gryphons, but the cold hardness was not. They were deadened, his face looking as if it had been stamped from a sheet of metal; icy and unmoving.

Ren had grown up with those eyes. They were the first thing he saw when he came into the house and the last thing he saw when he left. His father held a low tolerance for anything and everything that did not adhere to his extraordinarily strict standards, and when those lines were crossed...Ren had crawled into bed many times with black eyes, cuts, bruises, and slashes emblazoning his body like horrific birthmarks. One thing he had long since learned:

Do not cross Abaddon in any way.

Which was why, when LW spoke, Ren's had spun around so fast he almost snapped it. Wide eyed he stared at her; LW's face was calm, eyes flickering up and down Abaddon as if surveying her prey.

The gryphon snorted, removing his coat. "I should have expected my son to bring home a slut who can't seem to properly contain herself," he remarked, slinging the black cloak up on the hook beside the wall before starting to walk up the stairs towards them, his movements slow and calculated. "You don't scare me, little miss. Not even a little bit."

Ren's feet were still frozen; his entire body refused to move, refused to even speak to say something, anything, in LW's defense. He wanted to scream out She's not a slut, to step in front of her, keep anything from happening to her, but his legs seemed glued to the spot.

Within a few seconds Abaddon stood before them. Even one step below them, he was still taller than Ren, and he reached up, twisting one of the gloves on his own hands.

"Welcome home, Renaissance," he said lightly, scarlet eyes only focused on his son, as if LW did not merit any of his attention. "Come to say you're sorry, have you?"

He was powerful, in the sense he would be one of the top Alphas were he a werewolf. She could feel this and see it in the way he held himself. It made her emotions war with one another. But she was the werewolf. And HE was a stuck up a** of a gryphon. This meant, yes she had fear of him. But it wasn't as strong as it would have been were he a wolf. This was the only thing that allowed her to continue to stand firm. For now at least.

His eyes. They bugged her. Kept hers in that feral purple. Her weight evened out for balance and easier maneuverability. She couldn't show the fear that was rubbing off of her best friend onto her. Couldn't. Because he was her best friend. She just...there were no words for how she felt right now. But she was NOT going to stand down. Not this time.

An eyebrow slowly rose at mention of being a 'slut'. "Can't properly contain myself, you say?" LW felt a grim smile spread across her lips in a thin line. "I disagree. I haven't bitten you yet." Her eyes tracked his movements. This gryphon was definitely the bigger predator. She would be the first to admit it. He was also used to being in charge. Which meant he wouldn't take well to not being able to control something, right? Dangerous. "Was I supposed to appear scary? Well...my apologies for missing that memo."

Jack damned tall males. Her eyes narrowed slightly but she didn't move. Muscles tightened in her legs, that urge to flee flitting through her for a brief second before her mind focused on Ren. How he was reacting. It pissed her off. Something rare to see in the she-wolf. She didn't care if his father came after her. Or what he said. All she cared about was that this gryphon terrified her best friend in the wrong way.

At his words to Ren (it didn't escape her notice that he was ignoring her), she couldn't help the waspish response that came out. "The only sorry that should be uttered here is the one for being such a stuck up a** and incompetent father."

It was difficult to comprehend just what Ren thought of his father. For the most part, it was hatred. Pure, loathing, unadulterated hatred, a hatred so strong that it curled in his stomach, twisted his insides to the point where it almost physically hurt to talk to him. Then there was that fear, the smoking tendrils of terror that brushed at his skin with feathery fingers, seizing through his veins like ice cold water. But underneath both of those, underneath the anger, the frustration, the horrible memories, the churning black nightmares, there was a hint - a small, tiny hint, barely audible or visible to anyone but Ren himself - of needing. Of desire, a desire to be loved, to be wanted, to be something to his father.

And along with that, an almost overwhelming despair of wanting something that would never come to pass.

Abaddon's crimson gaze flashed once, twice, turning his head slowly to look at LW. Ren recognized that look; it was the look his father gave him when he was certain he was right about something, the look he gave when he was about to tell something to Ren that he didn't want to hear. Or perhaps it was the look he gave when he was about to do something else, something Ren was not about to let happen. But his feet still felt like two pillars; his body refused to move.

No, no, no - !

"STOP!"

The shout echoed throughout the grand front hallway, reverberating off of the walls and ringing in Ren's ears. His fingers were still wrapped around Abaddon's wrist, his father's hand a mere inch away from LW's face.

"Stop," Ren said again, but it was quieter now, barely audible. "Stop. Please."

His father's gaze flashed again. Ren's fingers were shaking, trembling, but after a few, long moments, Abaddon yanked his arm from his son's grasp, brushing past the two to move into the upper hallway.

"Come back when you feel like being civilized, Renaissance," he said, and disappeared into the master bedroom.

For a few moments Ren just stood there, breathing heavily. He felt irrationally exhausted, his heart clambering in his chest as he struggled to return his breathing to normal. He closed his eyes briefly, exhaling slowly, before turning towards LW.

"Are you all right?" he asked quietly, not daring to look at her as he began descending the stairs, making his way towards the front door. She'll dislike me for bringing her here. I should have just left without her. WHY did I let her come with me? "Come on, I'll take you back to the school now."
PostPosted: Fri Feb 25, 2011 5:51 pm

At this point, it was difficult if it was shear stubborn will or fear that had allowed the she-wolf to remain where she was. Nothing about her features had shifted noticeably. Except her eyes. The feral edge had dropped subtly as a very faint hint of the fear she was desperately working to hide made it to her eyes. Yes she was scared. Those crimson eyes unnerved her and made her insides tighten. She could see in those eyes just what he would do and was willing to do.

Yet...yet there was a stronger emotion that was keeping the fear at bay. One that had to do with friendship. And that allowed her to stand firm even when she saw the hand coming at her face. LW never once moved or removed her violet eyes from the crimson ones. She was not his to control. And he was damn well going to learn that.

But his hand never finished its arc. It had been stopped just a mere inch away from her skin. Close enough that she could pick up that familiar scent that meant 'Ren' to her. Except...not quite his scent. And she knew. She knew just how lucky she was right now. That Ren had caught his father's hand. That blow would have sent her to the floor, no doubt. Candlejack. Too close. Just how in the hell would she have explained that mark to Gabe? Ren ran into a tree while flying. Yeah...for some reason, she didn't think the nix would buy that story.

Her heart was hammering against her chest, eyes never leaving those crimson ones until he brushed past them. Only then did she allow herself to take in a soft and shaky breath. Oh man was she going to have to apologize to Ren for this. LW just...couldn't help it though. Seeing how he acted with such fear of his father. It just struck at her. And those Jack damned eyes...LW just stared at nothing in particular, not moving an inch just yet. Even when spoke quietly and began to descend the stairs, she didn't move. Not until she caught something in his voice.

Taking a deep breath and, in typical canine fashion, shaking - tail fluffing out and all - LW was suddenly mobile again. She descended the steps with her usual bounce back in her step. When they reached the bottom, the she-wolf stopped him, both hands resting on his shoulder as she leaned up to place a gentle kiss on his cheek.

"I'm fine, kitten." She said in a soft teasing voice. "And don't give me that look." Stepping slightly away, she tapped his nose. "I'm your best friend, Ren. That means more than just two words." This was said in a soft, warm voice followed by a familiar head tilt and and equally familiar glint to those violet eyes. "And...we can't leave juuust yet."

Upstairs still, unbeknown to all except his lady master (only because she felt him roll away from her). One very horrid mimic had cautiously rolled after the feathered bird brain that had dared to try and torment what was HIS. Only HE was allowed to torment his lady master. Not this...oh hey look! He had a tail. Perfect. Single red eye narrowed to a slit, the mimic waited for that tail to slowly pass by...and then clamped down with the intent to make it hurt.

Ren had the sneaking suspicion he was probably being rather pathetic, but no matter. After all, this was LW. His best friend. He loved her, adored her, and went to her for everything - almost everything. It was only these sorts of things - family things - that he tended to keep to himself, mostly for the reason that he did not want to burden them with all of the hatred he held bottled up inside of himself. That particular emotion he wished on nobody, especially LW, Alessa, and Gabrian. It was far too potent for people as good as them to even touch.

But even so...

Turning to face LW, Ren took her face in between his hands, letting his thumbs brush against her cheeks. "Thank you, wolflove," he said gently, and ducked his head, pressing a feather light, quick kiss to her lips before stepping back, slinging an arm around her shoulder. "I think I could use a nice break now," he said with a sigh before casting her a curious glance. "What do you mean not yet?"

"ARRGGGGHHHHHH"

Something small and orange darted down the stairs, popping up into LW's hand. Ren took one look at, then back up the stairs in the direction of his father's office, and quickly put the pieces together.

"Oops," he said, fingers latching around LW's wrist, tugging her hastily through the front door. "Guess we better make a quick exit now, shall we?"

Reaching around, Ren once again swept her up into his arms, and with a quick push of his wings against the air, soared up into the sky.
PostPosted: Fri Feb 25, 2011 8:04 pm

A warm and special smile spread along her lips after a quick and light brush of lips. It was one that she seemed to reserve only for him. Not that she didn't have a special little smile for the other two also. But this one, stemmed back from their first meeting. Part of that connection they had as best friends. And something that, even if she never said it, cherished.

"I think I agree." She let her head lean back against his arm and tilted her head up towards his with a quirky grin. "And you're welcome, you overgrown turkey." At his curious look and questioning of why they couldn't leave just yet, LW let her gaze flicker back up towards the top of the stairs. Within seconds she heard the sound she had been waiting to hear and watched as one very proud mimic came zooming down the stairs towards them. The she-wolf clutched her mimic tightly and gave Ren and innocent look. "Now we can go."

Unable to stifle her laughter, she followed her bestie quickly out the front door. This time when he swept her off her feet, she didn't squeak but gently let her arms wrap around his neck and shoulders, the mimic resting in the only place it currently could: the front (or what little there was) of her top. After only a couple minutes she let her head lean in against his to speak in his ear.

"I'm always there for you, you know? Even for the family stuff." A devious and challenging grin appeared and she added. "Also, I challenge you to Rainbow Road, turkey. I'm gonna kick your butt!" Probably not but she could still try! Such was her duty as his BFF. And fellow Scario Kar fanatic. Oh how special they were!
