Cassandra Sinistra Greengrass

Librarian

Slaves of our hearts, that's what we are
We loved and died where roses grew...

Your beauty heals, your beauty kills
And who would know better than I do?

Too close to breathe he came to me...

C assandra's eyes brightened as Icarus swept in, looking absolutely magnificent. His long hair billowed out behind him, his white, green and black robes fitting perfectly...

C assandra sighed. What poise, what elegance, what charm, what... what? Was he coming in her direction? No, that wasn't possible, surely she was imagining things... She saw him look at the nurse, a sweet, loving expression on his face, and felt jealousy claw at her heart. Why couldn't he look at her like that, why did he waste his affection on some bratty nurse? What did that nurse have that she didn't? Cassandra was beautiful, intelligent, clever, witty...But she had never spoken to Icarus about her adoration. That...that shrew apparently had (though there was no way she loved him as much as Cassandra did), and was now stealing her Icarus! But patience, patience, she would take back her love...

H e was still walking towards her table. Now he was standing in front of it, a smile plastered on his face. She could tell it wasn't as honest as the one he had given the Shrew, but still:

I carus Skylar, the absolute God of her idolatry, was standing before her, smiling at her. At her! This was too good to be true! The heavens were surely smiling upon her this night...

S he smiled, aware of the slight flush coating her cheeks as she stood, holding out her slightly shivering hand. "G-good evening, Icarus," she greeted him, stuttering despite herself. "How are you? I heard you were doing Quidditch tryouts...how are they going?" There, she had spoken to him. As she continued, her voice grew stronger and less shaky. At the thought that he would soon be hers, her smile strengthened and grew warm, a friendly smile, nothing more. She could wait, she could gain his friendship...she would have him soon in ways stronger than mere friendship anyway, she could wait...

((From my profile: "...But I was two years younger, and so I stayed in the shadows, watching from afar."

Edited slightly.))

Your thorns, they kissed my blood...

A rose is free, a rose is wild
And who would know better than I do?

I will always savour you
as I will always be your fool...

Professor Sasha Russos
Transfigurations teacher And former ravenclaw.

Sasha looked up when Icarus joined their table. She hadn't really spoken to the flying professor much but then she hadn't really spoken to many of the other professor. "good evening Icarus" she said speaking for the first time since her small talk with Cassandra died. She had actually been thinking about many things during that time. the blond started to wonder if there was a point in trying to make small talk with this group. However if she didn't it would be a rather boring event.

Icarus tried very hard to repress the sigh he usually did whenever he thought about Isis, "I'm well, I suppose. Quidditch? Oh, oh yes! It's going very well, thanks," Icarus stifled the sigh that threatened to come out. He felt like a schoolboy whenever he did it, but he couldn't help the feelings. Everyday was difficult for him not to make up some injury or ailment to go see the nurse. The first time he had gone was before they were together, and that was a true ailment.

Icarus turned to look at Sasha and said, with a smile,
"Sasha, you seem bored out of your mind... I hope I am not so stale to your tastes..."

C assandra frowned jealously when Icarus began speaking to Sasha. Why wouldn't he speak with her more?! And something was distracting him... He loved Quidditch, she knew that, flying was his life. It couldn't be that nurse, could it? Stealing the mind and heart of the poor Deputy Headmaster...that couldn't be permitted! She smiled pleasantly, hiding her irritation.

"R eally?" she replied to his comment about Quidditch, "that's good. I hope Slytherin has a good team! We can't let Gryffindor win this year...Not that I'm biased, or anything..." she smirked slightly. "And how are the little first years? Not giving you too much trouble, I hope. Last years were so rude! Really, absolutely no manners...Students these days, their parents are so lazy!"

S he laughed softly, realizing how she sounded. "Merlin, I sound old saying that..." She picked up the menu of the table, and began filling it in with what she wanted to eat: tuna salad, Shepard's Pie, and chocolate cake for desert. "Really, though, it is getting quite out of hand... I actually awarded one of the students five points simply for saying "thank you" when checking out a book..."

((Light, if you're reading along, I hope I did the menu thing correctly?))

Icarus smiled at Cassandra, "Well, they've got real potential," Icarus laughed, "But I guess I say that every year," Icarus was surprised by Cassandra's next comment, "They were? Odd... I've never had disrespect in my class. Sure, they grab their brooms without waiting for my word, but I can't expect first years to know my standards in the beginning. Especially if I'm late for the introduction,"

Icarus glanced up at Cassandra when she grabbed the menu, "Would you mind ordering me a pumpkin juice? Since you have the menu already..."

C assandra rolled her eyes at Icarus, a small smirk appearing on her face. "Well, of course they'd respect you. You're the head of Slytherin house, and the Deputy Headmaster. Not to mention you are in charge of the most popular extracurricular at Hogwarts. Where-as I am the lowly librarian..." she sighed, shaking her head mournfully. "No one seems to care about books any more... And no one seems to think for themselves either. I swear, if one more student asks me where they'd find Hogwarts: A History--or anything else so ridiculously obvious, for that matter--I am going to go positively mad. I mean, clearly it wouldn't be in the History section of all places, no, that would be to simple!"

H er heart skipped a beat when Icarus asked her to order some pumpkin juice for him. "Of course," she told him as she wrote the request down with a smile.

"S o," Cassandra began, a smirk dancing on her lips, "any suggestions on how to deal with first years?"

"I suppose," Icarus shrugged, "The first thing you have to know is that you must be patient with them," the professor sighed, "Some of them aren't used to being in this sort of atmosphere and they get carried away. All you gotta do is be patient, but firm; don't let them walk all over you,"

Icarus glanced down at the table as his pumpkin juice appeared, "Now that's service,"

C assandra raised an eyebrow. "Patient? Last year a student interrupted me while I was speaking with Rea Septima, and then less than a minute later another one did too! This is beyond 'carried away'. They must live in caves if they can't figure out not to do that, it's a matter of simple common sense!"

S he sighed, shaking her head. "Sometimes I think we ought to follow the Muggle example and start sending children to school when they are younger...And then I remember that if we did that, I'd have to deal with even more of them and I start questioning my sanity." her lips quirked in an amused smile at herself.

A s the food arrived, she laughed at his comment. "Probably the fastest any of us have been fed this year..." she replied. "Anyway, returning t to the topic at hand... I think removal of points and threats of detention will work better than 'being patient'."

"Whatever works, right?" Icarus took a swig of his pumpkin juice, "Wow, the pumpkin juice tastes amazing today," he grinned playfully, "Perhaps you should take a vacation, Cassandra? When was the last time you went back home to family?" Icarus tilted his head curiously.

C assandra's heart simply melted at the sight of Icarus's grin. He had grinned! At her! She smiled back to him, and laughed at his suggestion. "Trust me, if I went on a vacation, the last place I'd go would be my family. That would be about the least relaxing place I could possibly go to..."

S he took another bite of her tuna, and glanced at him. "What about you?" she asked, "What's your family like?"
