Wouldn't a square or octagonal "pie" be more of a pastry or maybe a tart? It would be using the word "pie" very loosely in my opinion.

3nodding Yes, I do agree it is very loosely used or deiscribed as a pie though it mostly would fit those other discriptions you mentioned JJ.
