Aulus gave a vague humph and shrugged his shoulders. "Don't care if you eat," he elaborated, "and I suppose I might as well myself, I'm in no rush to get anywhere." It was one thing to watch a pokemon eating while you were famished, but quite another to watch another human. Turning away from Aila, and feeling tense the moment she was out of sight, Aulus opened his saddlebag and began to sort through for lunch. The item on top, of course, was his camera; he moved it carefully to one side, but not so carefully that the pink-eyed girl would think it meat anything much to him should she be watching... Or so he hoped, anyway.
A few moments later he located the things he was after; a bag of dry pokemon food (the right mix for an absol of course), a food dish with two sections, and a large bottle of water. Placing the bowl on the ground, he poured a measure of food into one side and a good amount of water into the other before stepping back and nodding to Tortie; "Go on then." As his companion dived into her lunch, he put the pokemon food away and fetched out his own lunch; a tub of egg fried rice he'd had left over from a takeaway the night before, and chopsticks to eat it with. Food acquired, he closed his saddlebag and turned around once more, glad to put Aila back in his field of vision.

She took a seat on the ground, leaning her back against Pitre's large leg, and pulled out a small bag containing a fairly simple sandwich, something she had prepared before setting out from the base. She kept Aulus at least partially within her gaze to make sure what he retrieved from his back was in fact some kind of food and not a weapon, though her attention was pulled away by a lap full of Venusaur face. "Agh, Fleur, no. You already had yours. There's no ketchup in here anyway. Shoo." The grass-type muttered a disappointed "saurr" and backed away, settling her weight comfortably on the ground.
The threat of a massive flower eating her lunch thoroughly dealt with, she returned her focus to the sandwich, unwrapping it and pulling a bite away with her fingers. Her eyes wandered towards the Absol; it seemed distinct not only in coloration but also in its overall quality as a pokemon. "Your Absol seems exceptionally well cared for," she noted, an internal thought spoken idly. She wasn't anything of a breeder, but that much was clear if only from its coat and structure.

As his stomach gave an expectant growl Aulus sank fluidly to the ground, noting with satisfaction that the muscles in his left thigh were in a good mood; as every they felt a little tighter than those of his right leg, but not painful today. Despite his hunger, however, he paused in the action of opening up his lunch when Aila spoke, and tried not to puff up like a proud Papa. "I got her from a good breeder," he said trying to sound vague, but failing to hide the pleased ring to his voice.
"I suppose I just put the research in to find out what she needed to be healthy," he added after a brief pause, "I mean you can't expect a pokemon to fight well if it doesn't eat well. I was taught that lesson applied to humans when I was young, so I suppose it stuck well with me. Helps that I got her as an egg too, so no other trainer or wild life had a chance to mess her up." That was the main then that troubled him about catching from wild or trading; you could never really know the history of a pokemon you hadn't reared from birth, anything could have happened to it before it came into your hands. He supposed that was just something he'd have to deal with though, unless he managed to find a way to suddenly make a lot of money, which didn't seem all that likely...
Still, no help for that; putting the worry aside, Aulus dug into his lunch.

A faint smile crept to her lips as she noted his tone and his following explanation. Though he behaved standoffishly, it seemed he was quite the fan of pokemon and breeding. With the subject having gravitated towards such matters, he was more talkative than he had been on any other topic, even if 'talkative' was a bit of a stretch as an applicable adjective.
"That's very true," she agreed, considering her own team's diets. "That's a subject I need to learn more about..." They all had such diverse needs, and they all required something different. It was hard to keep track of everything. At the mention of eggs, her thoughts turned to the yellow and black thing she had discovered Revenant cradling. "Do you know a lot about pokemon eggs?"

Swallowing a mouthful of rice and taking a swig of water, Aulus shrugged his broad shoulders. "Not a lot, but a bit," he said, his tones still gruff but lacking the bite they'd had earlier on. "My parents and siblings always had their pokemon from breeders too so I've seen a fair few different eggs I suppose and cared for them too..." The red-eyed man spent a moment wondering to himself why she would ask, but then he spotted the Mismagius with the egg. "She's taken a liking to it?" he asked, nodding to the boldly marked shell. "Where'd you get it?"
The markings on the shell were certainly familiar, but he couldn't immediately place them. Frowning, Aulus munched on more rice and searched his memory; he was pretty sure it was like one of the many eggs he'd seen at the breeder's, and he was also pretty sure he'd been told what it was expected to hatch into but for now the recollection was eluding him. Whatever it had been, however, he was certain it hadn't been a misdreavus.

"She seems to have, yes." Aila spared a glance in the direction of the ghost, who returned her gaze expectantly. She was awfully protective of the egg for it to be something as simple as having taken a liking, but it was awfully brightly colored to belong to a Misdreavus. "I'm not really sure where she found it. I think she picked it up somewhere while I was hospitalized." A slight frown tugged at her lips as she brought another bite of the sandwich to her mouth. Revenant wouldn't have just taken it from someone... right? "I had a thought that it might be her own, but I somehow doubt that. A lot." Highlighter yellow did not a Misdreavus imply.

"Mmfh," Aulus scowled and shook his head as he swallowed his mouthful, "no, I don't think so... I think it might be a pichu egg," he added thoughtfully after a moment, still scowling superlatively. "I've never owned one nor my family but I saw other eggs at the breeder's; I'm pretty sure I saw an egg like that, and that was what he said it was. If it is, it can't be hers; wrong egg group." He knew that much at least, or at least he was pretty sure... Well, he'd said it now, and he'd stick by that even if he was only about ninety percent sure. "Does it wriggle much?" he asked to cover his uncertainty on the previous topic. "If it does you'll probably find out for sure what it is pretty soon."

A Pichu egg? That was even stranger. Where would she have found a Pichu egg? She inclined her head thoughtfully at the mention of wriggling and its proceeding explanation. "Oh, really? I haven't noticed much movement, but that's good to know." In all honesty, had she not been made aware of that fact, it likely would have quite startled her if the egg suddenly started wiggling around. "Is there any special way I should be taking care of it?" She had, for the most part, been leaving it in Revenant's care; the Mismagius seemed to have at least a fairly good grasp of what to do with the egg. Aila had no experience with the things, though, and Aulus seemed a knowledgeable source of advice in the matter.

"Mmfnh," said Aulus through his rice, shaking his head and remembering why talking when food was present and he was hungry annoyed him so much; had he been less interested in the subject he would just have lapsed into grouchy silence. "Not much really. Keep it fairly warm, don't drop it; it's not rocket science for an electric type. I've heard some people say you should shock the egg to make the pokemon come out stronger, but I'm pretty sure that's a heap of bull. Fire types are a bit different of course," he went on, unaware that he'd started rambling of his own accord, "the hotter the better for those especially for pure types pretty much. The opposite is true for ice types as you'd guess; the breeder I knew had special incubators that he could tune to just the right temperature for whatever the egg was..."
At that point Aulus did notice his chattiness, and a dark scowl spread across his scarred face. "You've heard enough of me going on though," he muttered, stabbing pointlessly at his rice and cursing himself for getting all pally with the girl, "suffice to say that your Mismagius is probably doing fine."

She listened intently as he spoke, taking notes in as much detail as she was mentally capable and quickly returning her gaze to the remains of her sandwich when he stopped himself. "I appreciate it, though," she assured. "I've never dealt with eggs before, so I'd like to learn anything I can." Aila was more than capable of taking a hint, though, so she chose not to pose any more questions, as interesting a subject as it was. Taking information from books and websites wasn't as fulfilling as learning from someone with firsthand experience, but she could make do. She gently pushed Fleur's large maw away as the Venusaur attempted to discreetly nab a bite of what was left of her human's lunch.

Aulus gave another shrug as he finished off his rice and set the empty box aside. "It's no big deal," he said brusquely, "I'd rather you ask me a stupid question than not and have something happen to the - " the massive venusaur was trying to take a nibble of Aila's tiny sandwich. Aulus chuckled, the spikes he put out around other people smoothing for a moment as he watched the obviously loved brute's failure. He quickly got a grip on himself, however, and turned the grin on his face a little savage; "Watch she doesn't have your arm off by mistake." It wasn't rude or snappish, but it was still a rough tough joke to make and so it would do in the absence of a will to be outright nasty. It was good to see pokemon who knew the worst they were going to get for misbehaving was a stern word a light smack on the nose.

Aila responded with a laugh of her own, slightly subdued but no less sincere for it. "I'd like to see what she does after that," she said, smiling up at the grass-type. The latter answered her trainer's positive mood with a grin of her own, the fact that she was obviously going to go sandwich-less pushed from her mind by the sound of laughter. "You'd have to find someone else to feed you, that's for sure." The Venusaur reacted with mock distress, eliciting another laugh from her trainer who rubbed her companion's nose with her palm.

Although he didn't laugh again, Aulus did still find himself grinning as the grass type feigned horror at the notion. "They may be more powerful than us, but I think we got the good deal with having thumbs... Course there are the pokemon that have thumbs too, but whatever." Giving another shrug, Aulus topped up the water in Tortie's dish; her run must have really worked up a thirst, for she'd lapped up everything he'd poured in initially.
"Bet you wish you could do that for yourself rather than waiting for me to notice you, and hoping the dumb human manages to work out what you want," Aulus grinned, stroking the slender dark type fondly. "Despite your best efforts, you still don't have me perfectly trained, do you?" If she had a little finger, he would definitely be wrapped around it. Sure he used her to battle, gave her orders, etcetera etcetera, but when it came down to it he couldn't do enough to keep her healthy and happy, and she knew that. "Spoiled," he added, ruffling the fur on her head and giving her horn a tug.
Humans. Tortie looked up from her water, glowered at her trainer for a moment, and then dived forward to lick his face. With the desired exclamation of surprise and disgust extracted from her human, she went back to drinking.

Aila watched the display with a smile that was soon subdued by a rogue thought flitting around in her mind: Use pokemon for profit and exploit pokemon for profit. It had only been half a year since she had been on her own in Camphoreon, regarding Fleur as some kind of needy tool. Since joining Team Rocket, she had learned a great deal, both about humans and pokemon. Her resulting increase in attention towards the little grass-type had facilitated her evolution into an Ivysaur, and then again into a Venusaur. The seed pokemon was now her most trusted and loved friend; it was a startling metamorphosis when regarded in its whole. The thought of the changes that had occurred during her employment with the organization, however, brought her mind around to less thrilling matters, and a slight wistfulness overcame her features.
"It's good to spoil them occasionally, though, isn't it?" she agreed in an effort to return her focus to the matter, her hand lingering on the Venusaur. Fleur detected the change in her tone with ease and gave her trainer a reassuring nudge.

"Mrrfh," Aulus pulled a face as he wiped away the Absol slobber, "I suppose it is, yes. Everyone deserves a treat from time to time..." The girl looked kind of distant all of a sudden. Well, not his problem; once Tortie was done drinking he'd be off, and probably wouldn't ever see her again. "Not too often though," he added with a frown, "or it's more cruel than kind. The number of idiots I've seen with a fat blob of a pokemon that can hardly move... Still, yours look healthy." That always made him think better of a person. Not well, it just meant that he didn't automatically hate them. Anyone who let their pokemon get so overweight it affected their health ought to be fed an equivalent diet, see how they liked it.
