You say all races are the same but that in itself is wrong.
Every race is known for it's own traits and wether anyone takes offense to what I say or not, I really don't care, my aim isn't to be offensive.

Blacks are naturally good athletes.
Mexicans are known to be hard workers on occasion.
Asians are known to be smart.
White people can swim well, that I know of.

And that's not saying that not any specific races can't be good at something else, that is just what each race is known for.

I myself am not racist I personally believe every race has their idiots or lazy people so when I hate on someone, I hate on them as a person, not a race.

There's a difference between traits and stereotypes. stare
A trait is like brown hair and eyes with tan skin. Traits are things that are -for lack of a better word- obviously true. If you saw me, you'd say that I have those said traits, but you can't tell if I'm smart or a good swimmer just by looking at me or my brother or sister. The story is beyond the cover.

I'm half-white and half-Asian, I'm not very good in school and I'm not the greatest swimmer. I do, however, consider myself at least clever outside the classroom. You know, with ethics, street smarts, and reason. And I can swim well enough to keep myself from drowning.

I believe you can think however you want. The reason why some of those thoughts creep into your mind is because you've probably grown up hearing such things from people you trust, so it's natural to adopt the same opinions. Later on you'll drop theirs and make up your own, which I think you have. You seem to have an open mind from the little I know about you. Keep your mind wide open. Or not, it's your mind.

Are you sure it's 'racism'? It could just be prejudice.

Racist is thinking that a race or group of people is inferior to you, and are discriminated in some way.

Prejudice is a judgement or opinion based on preconceived notions and often an irrational fear/hatred of a particular group.

If you think you're racist chances are you're not...though everyone has their moments of bigotry. Don't get caught up in it.

Saying a black person can't swim and Mexicans are lazy isn't stereotyping? stare

And I do believe I mentioned that just such traits arn't noticable in every person of a race.

I'm white and I'm practically part fish, this much is incredibly true. neutral
The world's best swimmer is white.
Well known runners and football players are black.
Asians have developed incredible stuff over the years.
I can't exactly prove the Mexican theory though.

I mean sure, you have really good white football players, but let's be honest, there's often a majority here.

What do you hate, exactly? Do you hate the culture? Ethnocentrism is never something to encourage and i don't think that broad, sweeping statements like that are acceptable but I think that there are cultures associated with some races more than others. Unfortunately most of these are negatives, and I"m not going to list them right now, for fear of offending people, as for whatever reason, I'm feeling less eloquent than usual and would be loathe to offend anyone, should I fail to make any of my points clearly enough.
Do you hate the immigration problem? That's fine. The US has a big one, but a solution the doesn't marginalize human beings is incredibly difficult to find. For the record, I am deeply against Arizona's new policy as I understand it (though I admit that I have not read the lengthy bill, itself).
Do you hate the fact that drug violence is starting to spill over into America? That's fine. You should hate that it exists at all.
Do you hate the problem of latino gangs? Again, all gangs are bad and by definition a part of organized crime, almost invariably violent crime.
It's only when you start to assume that all Mexican Americans (or Mexicans, or all Latinos, in general) are illegal, drug-running gang-members (or any of the above, without damned good reason.)
It sounds as though your family is the obvious x factor here. I think that I'll skip any statements of my utter disgust and advise that you move out, if you're old enough. before their illness becomes your own.

That part is true, though it's ignorant for people to still think like that.

As I stated, I think.
These are my opinions.

[Edit] I didn't state that, however I am now. Officially.

I think racism is dumb and not cool. Sure the jokes are funny, but I don't think that really makes a person racist. I hate it when people bring up race just because they can. I wish people stopped using it as an excuse to gain something too.

stare Too many people play the race card and all I've got to say is America is a melting pot, NOT a salad bowl. A salad bowl basically seperates the veggies while a melting pot makes us all one and the same. Stop playing the race card and move on with life. Hate me all you want, but I don't care. ninja

no, he said all races are equal which as a statement of practical fact is sadly not true, but as a statement of ideals is right.

prejudice against people based on 'preconceived notions and irrational fear/hatred' is racism. i don't think generalising that 'everyone has their moments of bigotry' is acceptable. you are giving yourself a get out of jail free card, racism is not excusable, shame on you too.

You're absolutely wrong, about that. America is, in that sense, a salad bowl (though things mix plenty there, so I do wish you'd find a better analogy). Auto-segregation is a massive driving force is our world. People sticking to their own kind is something that most people see every day.
Racial division isn't the only force that shows that prejudice is alive and well. Not only that, but it's legislatively supported. Perhaps not against race, but until as recently as months ago, gays couldn't serve openly in the military and still don't have the right to marry in most states.
Has the "race card" been played inappropriately, at times? Is it abused in some cases? Of course. No one is saying otherwise. Just as surely, though, prejudice is a force that still moves people in this country.

Well 'racism' for one is bad itself because it just proves that those people think above those individuals and can say without any doubt in their head "I'm better then you so i can ridicule you all i want."
