Gently nodded. She imagined he had been excited, as adrenaline had pretty much been the order of the day. She nodded her head, smiling thoughtfully, though she wasn't exactly sure what she was smiling about. Still, it was only a soft expression, distant.
When he said he wasn't a good kid, he certainly was heard. She could hardly miss it, even with it being so soft, if only because she was close and it was mostly quiet around them. She couldn't really focus on anything else, anyway. Eyebrows furrowing, she shook her head, not believing him.
"You might not know it, think it, or even act it, but you're good to me, and I like that," she said, patting him on the shoulder. She squeezed his shoulder affectionately after that, nodding her head.
"You're probably right, they're probably organizing more than we know. But we will know, and we'll stop them. Prepare for them. Let them think they have the upper hand, and they'll get stupid. More, anyway. In any case, they'll fall into our designs sooner rather than later." Always the optimist, it seemed, and she shoved him playfully after that, though she was careful of any injuries.
"This is getting rather heavy, don't you think? We'll just have to see how things go, and focus on making sure we do whatever we can to make them go our way. I have faith in us. You and I, and every one else on our side."

He was quiet, too quiet as she told him that she thought him to be good. He had been a fool to think that she wouldn't hear his words, nothing else had been said when he had mumbled those words. He only looked at her when she touched his shoulder. His expression was unreadable before he offered her a small smile. "Thanks," he told her leaving a portion unspoken. Even though I'm far from good... Disagreeing with her would do him no good, he dropped the subject just as she had dropped the previous subject.
Compromise.
"When people get confident they get stupid," he nodded his head thinking about how confident Chaonis had come off and how easily it could be turned against him. Confidence led to cockiness and cockiness led to carelessness. "Exploiting their weaknesses could be fun," he said thoughtfully before checking the watch on his right wrist.
"Crap, I've gotta run Gently, sorry," he apologize as he shifted her legs off of him and stood. "Gotta attend a meeting with my dad," he explained. Hurrying to the door.

Gently looked at him in surprise when he got up in a hurry, nodding her head. She grinned broadly, hoping up to follow him to the door, hurrying to open it for him, lest he run right into it. She knew he wouldn't, of course, but it amused her in her mind to think and she was a fairly easy person to keep entertained, it seemed.
"I'll see you later, then? Don't be a stranger. And chin up. Life's for having fun, and there's always a way to do it."
She smiled at him.
"I'll try to stay out of trouble, at least for a day, so you don't need to come hurrying back to save me, right?" She nodded her head, chuckling. She saw him off, not wanting to keep him when he was clearly in a hurry to get out of there. A nagging feeling in the back of her mind made her wonder if she hadn't said the right thing, but she shrugged it off quickly.
Doubts never helped anything. If he was mad with her, she would know soon enough, and she would be able to deal with it accordingly. If he wasn't, she would be able to see that, as well. Simple.

He lingered at the doorway, hesitating for a moment as he opened and closed his mouth incapable of saying what he wanted. He shook his head and turned stepping out of her house as she watched him leave. He walked down the walkway wordless before he stopped and turned to look at her. He smiled warmly at her and waved a hand trying to assure her that everything was alright.
"I won't, see ya Gently," he seemingly promised shoving his hands deep into his pockets as he continued down the pathway before turning the corner and heading down the street. Chase wasn't upset by any means, he had a lot on his mind, but he couldn't help but feel like the meeting with his father had come off as an excuse to leave.
He sighed shaking his head as he fished his phone out. Perhaps it would be best if he kept out of the fray for a while, give himself time to sort his priorities. He didn't have any more time to think about it as the phone buzzed in his hand. "Yeah, I'm on my way dad, be there in ten."
