"Make what easy? All that...hard work?" The last two words left a foul taste in his mouth. "I thought you liked it that way. Hard, I mean. Is it supposed to be easy?"
He had never assumed Igors had some sort of device or function that made the work easier to do (or else he would have looked into it a long time ago), just that they enjoyed what they did.
Christof was talking about work, wasn't he?

"I don't know," He shook his head, "I'm... I'm being thtupid I think." Sagging, he shifted through the papers in his lap, nervously stacking them in two piles, one of dropped off homework assignments and one of actual letters. "Mithter Calder'th just... been thaying all thethe thingth and it... confutheth me."

"Yes, I noticed when he err, came through my window. The other night. How did you meet him, anyway, NAP sign-ups?"
No scare packages slipped under or outside his door today, Barth noticed. His mom sent them occasionally. He didn't write her back, but she took that as a sign that he was healthy and doing fine. ...On that note, it had been a while since he'd visited with either of their parents.
He wasn't sure if he was looking forward to grades. He'd been doing surprisingly well this semester, which was going to garner a lot of....questions.

"Dunno. You're the youngest one I know. Didn't you...meet other Igors? Your age? I think that's generally how it goes, anyway. Older Igors have experience on their side. I don't know if the ones I knew were as clever as you, though. Maybe they were better at hiding it."
It seemed reasonable to him that Christof's age accounted for a lot of why he was...different.
"Your err, original Master? Who is he, anyone I know of?"

Christof's face flushed when he realized his slip. "N-no- no. I don't... I don't THINK you'd know him..." He had already said too much. His tongue had started to itch again. He shifted, grappling onto the other topic like a cat attempting grabbing a shower curtain before it fell into a bathtub. "There... were a couple in training with me but... We didn't get along wery well." He managed quietly, still blushing.

"Ah," he said, in regards to the master thing. It was bad form to pry, anyway. Demons operated on a don't ask don't tell policy. At least, he tried to. For the most part.
"I don't think that matters, especially. You won't be working for other Igors. But you've been getting along well here, haven't you? ....you did get me into detention, but your intentions were...err, look, just don't drag me out in the middle of the night to any more truth or dare games. THE POINT," he said, also trying to steer the conversation somewhere besides a ditch, "is that we all make mistakes, and you shouldn't worry so much over them. Hakuna Matata. That sort of thing. You...err, don't have to worry about me beating you up over them."

"Hrnn." Came the quiet response. The last letter in the pile had been a bit wrinkled by his nervous, twisting hands, and he glowered down at the black envelope as though wanting it to explain why he didn't feel right about things. "Tho... tho I'm doing alright? Bethides... bethides the detention thing I mean... I... i really am thorry about that, I had no idea it would go tho awry..." He shifted, finally handing the mail over like a good boy. Honestly... he LIKED Barth. It was easy to talk to him for some reason. Maybe it was because despite the mundane tasks that constantly kept him occupied and the complete lack of actually mad-scientisting, he didn't ask much of him. Which was odd. He should have been enraged he wasn't being asked to do EVERYTHING. But... He knew there was something wrong with him. It just... was difficult to get into. He resolved to drop the subject for now.

"That...went awry well before detention," Barth said, with a short laugh. Ha ha. Very awry. "But no harm done in the long run. Probably."
Barth accepted his mail, making a note of the 13 sealed into the wax of the black envelope, before neatly cutting through the top one claw. He extracted the contents, reading them slowly.
"...Oh. Err, it's an invitation. To a party?"

A party? Christof hadn't gotten any invitations to any party, save for the Scareintine's day dance, but this... didn't look like that. Happy to take the change of subject, the Igor shifted to try to peak around Barth's arm at the paper curiously. "What thort of party?"

There was another, smaller card in the envelope. He read that too. Then amended his statement.
"A species exclusive and, unfortunately for me, mandatory party."

Christof's brows furrowed as he tried to read the notes on his Master's lap, trying to digest things. "A... demon ewent?" His eyes lit up as he glanced up to Barth's face, "That'th really good!" The more prestigeous the Master, the more Prestigeous the Igor, after all. "You... you would be there with Mith Sin and Mith Yaya and..." He sighed, mind filled with the thoughts and images of all of those lovely demon ghouls parts on displayed in elegant dress. "I can't ewen find a date for the Thcarintineth dance... you're lucky! Two partieth! You're going, right?" The last comment was combined with a stern expression that said if he didn't, he would be a wery croth Igor.

"Oh, yes, err, well, maybe. I'll um, see about asking Lilith." There wasn't any harm in trying. "Who have you asked?"
He'd need a different date for the demons thing, though.
Lucky. Ha ha. He hoped this Lucky 13 thing wasn't going to be taking itself too seriously.. Either way, he planned on sleeping through most of the meetings. And it couldn't hurt to keep tabs on the other err, more ambitious demons.
