Lorenna sighed quietly. How this mare was the boss she would never fully understand. If there was business she had no right to be whining about being tired when she, very clearly, wasn't. She was just lazy. Her gossamer wings swayed gentle as she trotted purposefully down the path after her so-called boss.
After a few short minutes of uneasy silence the two left the path to take up positions in a small clearing. Lorenna let her wings droop to keep the low branches that made a makeshift ceiling from snagging and tearing them. She watched as Carmine ducked her head and wandered around until she found a place that she could stand without worry of her mane getting caught in something.
Once they were both settled the flutter cleared her throat and began. "I will get straight to the point, this is about Othelia. She makes an excellent guard, to be sure, her presence alone scares off many of the annoyances of the woods. However, I believe we have set our sights a little low with her..." With the bait laid she slipped into silence to allow Carmine time to ponder over her meaning.

Carmine stared at the flutter with an irritated look on her face that was slowly becoming more and more confused. She had known from the very beginning that Lorenna's mind operated on a different level than hers. Shoot, the mare seemed to operate on a different mare from everyone she knew. "Ya think so?" Her tone was flat out annoyed. She liked Othelia as a guard. It suited her. Othelia was happy to keep people away while Carmine grabbed whatever she needed and then kept it safe, that's all she needed her for. She hadn't the foggiest clue what Lorenna had in mind. "And what would you use her for?"
Lorenna smiled. She could always count on Carmine to ask just the right questions. Simple and straight forward without a hint of grace. "I know you enjoy your thieving, Carmine, it is your siren song. What if people brought the gems to you though?"
Carmine's ear twitched as a mixture of strong emotions washed over her. It was a battle between her natures. She enjoyed the thrill of taking the objects every bit as much as she enjoyed having them. She battled with herself for several minutes before realizing something, no one would just bring her stuff. She shook her head and glared at the flutter. "And who would do somethin dumb like that?" She asked irately.
Lorenna chuckled. "My dear, you need to put the puzzle pieces into place. I gave them all to you already, you'll find it's just a matter of looking at the bigger picture." Perhaps teasing the mare was not the best idea but after all the grief she had gone through for Carmine she felt entitled to this little bit of fun. "Please listen closely. We have a kalona. Most creatures are afraid of kalona. If we established our control of such a creature we could demand whatever we wanted of them."
Carmine did listen to the flutter. She listened very carefully indeed and while she did not like the idea of using Othelia, especially not to leave Carmine jobless, she did like the idea of having the run of the world. "Couple things...one, she doesn't get to do my work and two, she has to be around when I need her. Clear?"
Lorenna nodded her head. "Of course."
