"Kaaaaay!" Devan purred still preoccupied with the static ball. He knew what he wanted for his birthday! This thing was probably super expensive. He did glance over at the other spawn every once in a while. He didn't want to be lost without an adult.

When the other boy returned Devan finally released the ball to come wrap his tail around his hand. "My rainbows?" He asked giggling at the bag in an eager fashion.

Nervously, Gabriel walked back to the boy, chuckling softly at the way the kid's tail wrapped around his hand. "Yeah, mostly," Gabriel replied, leaning down a bit to offer the bag to the boy, flicking his tail in a very focused manner until it 'accidentally' knocked the rack of hair colours off the shelf. Jumping up in surprise, he gave a sheepish smile to the person behind the counter. "Sorry 'bout that, I'll clean it up."

The pride spawn knelt down, replacing the little shelf before replacing each fake hair strand one at a time. Yet, there was something about his movement that wasn't fully honest. Each colour that he came upon that he'd been unable to afford, he slipped in his jacket on the upward movement, still pantomiming that he was putting them away. Smiling at Devan when he was finished with his task, he waved at the cashier before hurrying the boy out of the store and a few yards down from it, chuckling softly. The preteen slipped his hand into his jacket and brought out the other colours, dropping them into the bag that the younger male had. "There ya go, Devan. Your rainbows. I can help you put 'em in if you want."

Devan studied his friend as he began to sneak the colors into his jacket. It was certainly confusing. He'd never seen someone take from a story without paying for it. In fact he'd gotten in trouble for it once. He followed Gabriel out of curiousness and loyalty as he was lead from the store.

The boy tilted his head as the colors were put into his bag and looked down into it. "I'd like that." He glanced over at the store again then to the older male sensing he should keep his voice down. "Gabby? Why did you take the stuff? I thought it was a bad idea to take stuff and not give money? My mom even put me in a corner for taking gum once."

Smiling a bit, Gabriel nodded and knelt down beside the younger boy, taking the first package out and working on clipping the colourful inserts into his pink hair. The question that followed caused his headwings to tip back a bit, the tips of his ears drooping a slight bit. It would be difficult to explain, that was for sure. Especially when it came to the 'but it's only okay for me, not for you' part that, well, sounded about as fair as it really was.

"Well... see, Damien and I don't have a lot'ta money, so we can't always afford to get things that we want. Since there are sometimes things we want but don't have the money for, we... well, have to take them instead. Just small things, though, and only if we really need them," he explained, trying to add some kind of morality to his explanation, though that made it a bit less truthful. But, better that Devan didn't know about the necklace he had stolen, right?

Devan smiled at the new rainbows that littered his hair and sat rather still for a kid his age. The explanation sort of made sense. At least that sounded alright but he didn't really *need* his rainbows. Well, he felt like he did.

"... I donno, Gabby... I don't know if I really need them that much. The store owner might see that they're gone and get sad. Maybe we should give them back. That way he won't be mad."

Gabriel smiled awkwardly, not quite sure how to explain the fact that giving them back might get him in more trouble than keeping them at this point. Idly, he ruffled the younger male's hair wary of the little clip-in rainbows (though they seemed to stay their well enough). His tail tapped what it could reach of the ground idly while he mulled it over before deciding, well, there wasn't a much simpler way of putting it...

"Don't worry about it, kid," he said kindly. "It's a big store and gets lots of customers, so the owner probably won't even notice, and even if he does, he'll probably just be kind'a angry. But... well, if we take them back now that they're opened without having a receipt or anything, they'll probably try to make me pay for them, and... I don't really have any money." A flush accompanied this rather arrogant smile as he turned out the empty pockets of his jeans, shrugging his shoulders.

"Oh..." He took a long moment to consider this then smiled at Gabriel. "Well, thank you for my rainbows! It was really nice of you!" He glanced down at Gabriel's out-turned pockets then did the same. He was already looking up the the boy, seeing him like some kind of older guiding light. "How old are you?"
