"Sometimes, it does get in the way. I asked my mother for help.. but this wasn't exactly what I had in mind," he chuckled a bit. "Surely hair would get in your way during your hunts, get caught in water debris, no?" his head tilted. He had never thought of mers having hair. So much that it could float up and get caught in under water.
"We will have to have a hunt one day. It's a bit hard for me in the water, but I do like fresh fish." he grinned slightly. Fish was one of his favorite meals. He had a hard time catching them but they were always worth the wait.

She studied his hair, and laughed with him. "But it's becoming of you, very nice." She wanted to touch it with her face, feel if it was soft. But that was intrusive. "I guess...I guess what makes sense. I never thought of it that way, but often...others do have it. Long and kind of wavy, and they don't have teeth showing like mine." She glanced past him for a moment, before bringing her eyes back to him.
"I'm willing to hunt whenever you are. I can always go for a snack," she gave him a toothy grin. "They're easier to catch with help or deeper after stirring up the muck."

He tilted his head the other way when she spoke about her teeth and the hair of others. "How do they hunt? How do they survive out here?" he didn't see how mers without sharper teeth could catch the fish that they would be after to eat, surely they starved most days. "You must have been bred to be one of the perfect of the species then. Nothing to impede your talents." he said rather matter of factly. It didn't dawn on him that this would be a compliment, it just happened to be what he thought of the whole situation.
"Yes!" he splashed water with his tail quickly. "I'm so hungry, and I would love to see you in action!" he almost sounded anxious about seeing the mer hunt. It would be quite exciting.

Nessie felt her cheeks grow hot, but she felt a bit confused at the feeling. "Well...Thank you." This was what it felt like to be complimented. "They have teeth, but just not as noticeable...I don't know about the hair though. I never thought about it getting...tangled."
She laughed at his enthusiasm, "Hunt with me. We'll make a game of it?" She could feel the warmth flowing back to her face.

"I would think it would get in the way, at least that's my opinion anways," he shrugged before stopping in the water at her suggestion.
He wasn't too good at hunting in deep water, but the shallow water with slower fish he was good at. "Sounds like an idea!"
He waded back over to where the water was shallow enough for him to stand. He knew she couldn't come close, but he wanted to be able to watch her as she began. "Let me see how a real hunter does it!"

Nessie felt her face grow even hotter, and quickly she took the opportunity to plunge herself beneath the water. The murky, coldness of it was welcome to her. It was inviting--it was home! She felt her body glide through the water gently, smoothly. It was without effort, or really any conscious movement of her own.
As her body floated, like some large hunk of debris. She saw the a flash of silver not too far away. Propelling herself forward, her attack became loud, almost frenzied. The fish did not have the speed she did, but being smaller it could dive into places she could never follow. But that was not a problem now, she always hunted in the open...where it was about speed and strength.
Easily, she paced the fish, and reaching out with her jaws she snapped it shut in her mouth. Tight enough it could not escape, but securely enough that she wouldn't lose it. Letting herself glide, she slid to the surface and gave L'ing the fish. The warmth once again spreading into her face.

L'ing watched in awe as the mare moved swiftly thru the water. She was agile and very quick! He watched intently as she attacked the fish then came up with one in her jaws. He nickered loudly, "That was -fantastic-!!"
He would have applauded her had he been able, he was amazed. He focused in on her as she returned and offered him the fish. He smiled, but he would not accept her whole offer, at least not in full.
"Will you share in your catch with me?" he asked. He wanted to be polite and offer her a snack after her beautiful catch.

Nessie could feel the hot flames licking at her face again. She didn't understand the feeling entirely still, but it was..kind of..pleasant? She beamed at him, letting her toothy smile take up her entire face.
"Share with you? Yes." She could feel her face getting redder still. What was causing this?!
"Thank you, " she said it lowly, and sweetly. She was not one who had been praised often, and the feel of it made any questions of monsters disappear for the time being.

He took the fish and snapped it in half, offering her the more meated side for her work. He took a moment to eat the last part of his snack before returning his attention solely to Nessie.
"You are quite graceful in the water, a pleasure to watch!" he bobbed his head quickly. "I will definitely have to make more visits so that I can watch you in action!" Next time he would come prepared with gifts of his own.
He had a thought cross his mind, "Have you ever had meals that weren't provided by the water?" he was curious if anyone had ever brought her fresh berries, fruits, or flowers...

Nessie felt the hot flames burning again, before shaking them off a bit. "Thank you," she giggled. She'd giggled! She'd never giggled before, it was a weird sensation.
She looked at him curiously, "I've never tasted anything outside of these waters. I've only ever had what came into these waters, what lived here, or what was thrown in."

"Bah!" his head shot up, a disapproving look on his face, "Well that just will not do!" He could not imagine going through life having missed out on things such as berries or fresh greens. Though, he paused in thought, if you had never had such things he supposed it would be hard to miss them.
"The next visit I make to your waters, I will bring gifts for your palette. I promise you will enjoy." he bobbed his head slightly.

Nessie smiled as he spoke, at first. But as she heard he would visit again, she felt an odd pull in her heart. She swallowed hard, unsure of what to say. For a moment, she said nothing--she'd never wanted anyone to stay so badly. How could she go back to being alone after talking and enjoying his company?
She didn't think she could do it and she couldn't follow after him, even if she wanted. Her voice was low as she spoke, "Do you have to leave?" She could feel the hot flames in her cheeks, she couldn't believe she had actually asked..

His head tilted, her question having caught him slightly off guard. He didn't really have anywhere to go, he never did really. His tail quickly flicked behind him,
"No, I don't suppose," he straightened himself and smiled at the mare, "How about I gather some treats and I'll be right back?" he was getting a little hungry himself, the small bit of fish just hadn't been enough.
"I know there are some berry bushes close. I'll just have to wait for another day for the wildflowers and grass.... But you'll enjoy the berries enough," he gave a thoughtful nod.

"As long as you promise to come back," she smiled. Waiting till he left, she shut her eyes. What was she feeling? What had come over her? Why did she have to compose herself, why wasn't she composed already?

He smiled and nodded, "Just a moment, I promise." His tail flicked, curling around him quickly. He lowered his head a moment then turned to go find the fruit.
He trotted away in the direction of some bushes he had passed earlier. They had been red berries, very sweet to taste. He found a nice size bush and found where the branches met the actual trunk of the bush, snapping them off gently so he wouldn't loose too many berries.
He removed several branches, enough that he and Nessie both would no longer be hungry. He sorted them so that he could pick up all the branches at once. He did so and began to make his way back to Nessie.
