The perky note in Pink's voice made him wince a little, but most of his attention still rested on the vaporeon. He would love to own a specimen like this... Well, maybe one day, when he had money to spend again. "Vahy'n," Aulus pronounced the name with only a little difficulty, "right... You can call me Aulus," he added, as he assumed this was the reason for her pause, "and I've been thinking of you as Pink; now's the time to correct me if you want to. I might even take whatever your name actually is on board, but Pink seems to suit you rather well, so there again I might not."

"Aulus" she liked that name, she had never heard it before, and it seemed to fit. Rosie looked down to Vahy'n, who nodded her head at the man when he introduced himself, still watching him.
The younger trainer blinked when he spoke about not knowing her name, unable to keep from smiling when he said he was calling her 'Pink' in his head. She actually laughed a little, finding what she was going to say rather ironic "Well, my name is Rosie" she answered "Though I don't think its that much different than Pink really."
suddenly giving another shiver, Rosie stood back up, quickly going over to her seat, taking care to lift the bundle into her arms, and dig her egg out of it. Giving Vahy'n enough time to jump up onto the chair, before Rosie took a seat again, draping the blanket around her and her Pokemon. "Rosie Ewell sir, its nice to meet you Aulus." She greeted him officially with a polite bow of her head. Blue eyes, washed out by the color of the fire rising back up to look over at him. "Does your Absol have a name to?"

...Wow. Well, that was fitting. Then again maybe it was just a name she took for herself, as he took the name Aulus. Maybe they both thought they were being cool and original. Maybe they were both stupid. Whatever. "Her name's Tortoiseshell," Aulus said after a moment, his tones becoming curt again as his pessimistic appraisal of Pink and himself doused the good mood brought on by the sight of Vahy'n. "I generally call her Tortie though," he added gruffly, "less of a mouthful when I'm giving her a command... I think it's stupid not to name pokemon; how're they supposed to know it's them being told to do something or spoken about if they're just 'absol' or 'vaporeon'?"
It also implied that they were just objects, tools unworthy of enough consideration to be named. He hated that attitude. As he had sarcastically said, pokemon could show most of the human race a thing or two, and yet humans were so superior. We can cadge them, and so we can treat them as we like. Disgusting.

"Tortoiseshell" She repeated after him, with a thoughtful smile. "It fits her." Her name definitely implied the unique looking coat she had. "I name all of my pokemon, most people I know give names to their pokemon..." at this she paused to think, settling in comfortable next to Vahy'n and hugging the egg and Kiss Kiss once again. "Everyone in my graduating class does, and all the trainers I've met so far. i don't really see why anyone wouldn't... its fun coming up with names for your new friends" It made perfect sense to her, that's for sure. "Every living things needs a name... unless your my sister, and name your non-living tools to." at this she giggled again, her sister had always had a tendency to treat her intimate objects like living creatures. Rosie though it was cute, even if she didn't quite get it herself.

"Hu... Well, whatever floats her boat." He had thought about naming his bike on several occasions, but always dismissed it as too sentimental; last thing he wanted was some person like Pink giggling at him that way. "Most people I've met seem to name their pokemon," he added, "but some don't, and those people are," a yawn ambushed him at this point, and he only half managed to suppress it, "idiots." It was getting late, well late given how early he'd been up this morning, but he still didn't want to go to bed before Rosie-Pink. Maybe his yawn would infect her and she'd decided she wanted to go to sleep soon too. Hopefully.

She smiled softly, out of politeness when he stated his opinion. It was something he seemed to feel strongly on, she personally had no grudge against it, but she wasn't going to challenge his opinion, he was entitled, and she respected that.
She took a moment to settle comfortably with her pokemon, holding the egg, and her sleeping Pikachu in her arms, while Vahy'n lay beside her, golden eyes often glancing over to Aulus and Tortoiseshell. Rosie let the silence linger for a moment, before tilting her head, he seemed like he was tired, his yawn was an indication of that. "Its been a long day huh?" she started "Do you do a lot of travel?" He had a motorcycle, she guessed that was the case. That always intrigued her, she knew that once she graduated, she would be able to do a lot of off island travel and training. She was really looking forward to that, but it was hard to find many trainers here that had a lot of experience. if Rosie could say one thing about Aulus, was that he looked like someone who had a lot of experience... what kind of experience that was, was uncertain at this time though.

"Mmfh. You could say that," Aulus grumbled, hunching forward towards the fire a little, "but it was a self inflicted long day so you don't have to go feeling sorry for me. I'm travelling all over Kodo at the moment, haven't travelled all that much before. It's turning out to be... an experience, certainly."
It was good to get away from the monotony of home (and of course the embarrassment of having to explain the circumstances under which he'd 'left' university) but it was wearing. Different bed every night, hard to get decent healthy food, niggling worries about money... But he wasn't ready to go home yet. Not by a long shot. Maybe he never would be. They weren't like him, and he wasn't like them so why even pretend? He could make some kind of a life out here, maybe become a martial arts instructor, or a professional pokemon trainer or... something. Something that kept him in enough money to avoid phoning home to ask for a bail out.
"I suppose you travel?" Aulus suppressed another yawn. "Pokemon journey and that. Must take you a hell of a long time to get anywhere if you're on foot; I certainly wouldn't like trudging along like that all day." In the morning he'd make it to town in no time, but the same certainly couldn't be said for Pink, daft kid... Unless she had a ridable pokemon stowed away somewhere; maybe a large flying type, or a rapidash or something.

"Oh, no" she replied with a soft smile when he told her not to feel sorry for him. "Don't worry, mom used to say that being tired after a long day means that you've accomplished a lot. And thats a good thing" She nodded once very much believing this.
"I've been traveling for a little over a year now," She confirmed tilting her head a little and glancing down at Vahy'n "It sometimes takes a while, but I don't mind it, its part of our requirements for the League class I take at school. Pokemon only on the field!" she smiled, she didn't really have any pokemon she could ride either, not that that bothered her, she didn't get warn down very easily either. so it worked out. "It would be nice to have something to move faster on, I think in about a month my friend is going to take me to her mother's ranch, I might pick out a Pokemon there to train and get around on much quicker."
Rosie let off a soft sigh, a hand working over to pet Vahy'n gently, the Vaporeon closer her eyes, content. "Does that mean you'r a native to Kodo?" she asked, he made it almost sound that way, a lot of people she met were native, but she's run into a few that were from off island.

Son of a... She really just was a rainbow ray of sunshine, wasn't she? Perhaps he should be jealous, or perhaps more constructively he should try to emulate her positive outlook. She seemed honestly, genuinely happy... but it was because she was ignorant, or extremely lucky, or both. No. No chance he could copy her attitude, and apparently no chance he could put a dent in it either. Making the effort to be more than his usual baseline level of unpleasant to her was pointless.
"Sounds like a good idea," Aulus said eventually, "there's plenty of choice out there, I'm sure you can find something to fit your... tastes. Mmfh, and no, I'm not native, just come here for a change, see some different sights." Get away from his perpetually annoying family, take pretty pictures...

Rosie knew who she was, and she wasn't ashamed of it. She wasn't scared to look at this hard, scarred and relatively scared man, and give him a warm smile that he probably didn't see often, even if he didn't appreciate, or want it. be it naivety, or the fact that she didn't care, She treated everyone with the respect, and love she felt the world deserved. At least in her mind... Next to her was a more wise, and cautious creature, golden eyes might still be closed, but her fins were pricked, listening into every word and every movement from the two. She didn't wish her young mistress to change, views like hers on the world had become so rare, and they should be cherished. Vahy'n HAD to protect her trainer, it was was Katheryn would have wanted. Though the reality of just how long she would be able to accomplish this... worried the Vaporeon sometimes.
"Oh, I see." Rosie replied, tilting her head in interest. "I hope your enjoying it here so far. Kodo's my home, I'm a little nervous about leaving it for my gym challenge." But so many people did it, and if she wanted to really get better with her pokemon, it was something she had to do. "I'm looking forward to the adventure though." "How long are you staying in Kodo for?"

"Eh," Aulus shrugged, swallowing another yawn, "it's alright here. Some interesting scenery, cities to explore, that kind of thing. A nice change anyway..." How long would he be staying? He hadn't thought about that yet. He'd just packed up his stuff, shouted at his family, and driven off. He wasn't in a hurry to return home; he'd have to apologise for one thing, and for another if he went back too soon he'd be forced to attend his sister's wedding. Blegh.
"I expect I'll be staying a few months," he went on casually, stroking Tortie absent-mindedly. "I don't really have any firm plans, but I'm not in a rush to head back to Kanto." He could probably entertain himself in the region for a good while, in fact his money would probably run out before he got bored. Still, he'd cross that bridge when he came to it... Damn. Why had he insisted he didn't want any more money from his parents? He knew what an idiot he was when he was angry, so why did he never learn to just walk away from a situation when he started getting steamed? He supposed he just wasn't that smart.

She listened to him politely, though she was starting to look really content as she grew more tired. "People who travel like you are very inspiring." she said after a moment. "So many stories to tell." She looked to the fire at that, staring into it with a wishful look on her face. she had let lots of wise and experienced people, and they always had the best stories, she wondered if someday she would have stories to tell.
She did give him a politely puzzled look though, when he mentioned not being in a rush to go back to Kanto. "you don't miss your home?"

"Inspiring?" Aulus gave the girl an incredulous look. "I don't know what planet you come from Pink, but it obviously isn't this one. I may have a few stories to tell, but I think the only think I should inspire people to do is avoid being like me. Seriously, do I look as though I make a useful contribution to the world at large? I'm just a bad-tempered young wastrel; I can lower the moral tone of a room merely by stepping into it. Sooner or later, looking through those Rosie glasses of yours is going to get you hurt." She was a sweet kid. A dumb, annoying kid but still a sweet one. He didn't like her, not by any stretch of the imagination, but he didn't like the idea of anything bad happening to her just because she was too nice to see it coming...
Miss home? He'd been so busy preparing his rant to her previous words he'd almost forgotten that question. "And no," the red-eyed man added quickly, "I don't miss home. Nothing to miss." Except his father, who he got on alright with when the man wasn't talking about stock this and interest rates that. Even his stupid over handsome, under bright brothers could be decent when they weren't prattling about endless stupid sports. There was his sensei who'd always been patient with him despite his outbursts of temper. The tree fort he'd built in the woods out behind his parents' house...
Nope. Didn't miss it. Not any of it. Anyway, it wasn't like he was never going back. He'd have to when he ran out of money... Unless he found a job here. If he found a job he could stand he'd never have to go back, and that would be a good thing. It would.
Scowling darkly, Aulus bent forward to pick up a long stick and poked sullenly at the fire. "What about you?" he snapped abruptly, glaring up at Rosie. "Don't you miss your wonderful home and family out on your special journey?"

Vahy'n head lifted off her paws lightly while the man spoke, though she didn't do anything else, her features remained calm, but watchful.
Rosie however, blinked at him her lips parting slightly. She... heard what he was saying to her, but she couldn't exactly say she understood... or more like she didn't agree... "I don't view you like that" she told him, in a level, rather straightforward way. Not understanding why he would think things like that about himself, why anyone would think that way about themselves.
At the mention of family, she smiled a little again. "I'll always miss my family." Came her answer, though there was more in that reply than he might understand. She looked down to Vany'n at this, this Vaporeon turning her head up to look at her young trainer. "Everyday I miss them, but I know they would be encouraging me, so I'm okay."

"Well then aren't you a - " Aulus' sneering words were interrupted by a yawn, and when he continued his tones were somewhat less condescending; the effect was spoiled now so there was no point in wasting more effort there " - a brave little girl. I'm sure they're all cheering you on right now... Guess you're doing okay for yourself though." She had more pokemon than he did (though he could get loads if he actually tried, no problem), and that vaporeon really was spectacular. "What're you planning to do in the city anyway?" the red-eyed man went on. "It's not like there's a gym there to challenge. Research, or just some R&R from your long and tiring trek?"
Rest and relaxation, and a decent meal were high on his list of things to do when he arrived. He wanted to explore and see the sights too of course, but not until he'd had a bath and a shave with actual hot water somewhere. Not anywhere too fancy, he needed to make his cash last, but somewhere reasonable at least.
