His words brought about a deep belief within her chest, he wouldn’t harm her. She had found someone who she could depend on and who could depend upon her. Searlait had always told her that when she found someone like that she should hang on to them and never allow them to disappear, she would hold to that. Though she had only known him a very short amount of time she already felt a strong connection to this eerie stallion. “Well, I guess that means I will have to contain myself. I could hurt you if I’m not careful.” She winked and gave a small and girlish giggle. “My family will be polite; they will be a little tense that the littlest girl is bringing someone home. They are just protective.”
She said with a warm smile. She laughed upon thinking of him tricking her, she supposed it was possible but knew better. “Oh yes, you are a sly one.” She stated while gently nudging his neck with her nose. Turning about quickly she faced out of the gate and inhaled deeply. “I have a favorite hilltop if you would like to see it?” She responded. A little embarrassed that a hilltop was her secret spot and not something more mystical.

He perked his ears up in surprise at her coy jest and smiled, though still attempted to look soldierly and serious. Though he was failing miserably at it~ " Oh, well i guess that means i'll...be keeping an eye on you miss Lumrie~!!" he spoke gruffly, a hint of laughter behind his airy tone. " As for your family...ahh...well i admit to some...butterflies? ...i have not...met many others and protective stallions and mares like you, would be tough...i mean for me..." he shuffled a hoof, curling a bit of grass under the flames of his boney hooves. He glanced in the direction she had, thankful to breathe a bit easier as she was looking elsewhere...his heart slowed to a mild drumming in his chest...thumpthump... thump... thump... she turned back to ask him if he'd like to see her favorite hilltop. THUMPTHUMPthumpthumpthump! he shied a second, his eyes wild and bright, though he figurede it could be missinterpreted as excitement, new things!...he hoped he didn't show how nervous he really was...." yes...of course i would...especially if it is your favorite..." he tilted his head a bit, taking a step, then three more, ahead of her to the gate " well~ " he spoke, evenly " shall we?"

She watched a moment as he walked toward the exit of what was probably his comfort zone. She couldn't help but to feel special at that moment, he was leaving something familiar and safe to him just to be with her. She smiled and began walking until she was abreast with him. "I hope you do keep an eye on me." She said with a wink. An image of her family entered her mind as he spoke of them and she shook her head gently. "That will all come in time, for now, let us just think of todays adventure and what it will bring!" She exclaimed with a little prance. She knew he was nervous about meeting her family, she was nervous for him. Her family was kind but they were indeed protective and very tight knit. Too much to think of right now, she just wanted to enjoy his company at the moment. "I think you will love my hilltop! The wind feels so freeing and it has such a wondrous and wild smell to it." Closing her eyes she recollected her time spent on that hill as a foal. "I always went there to clear my head and dream of flying." She mused. "It took me a while to learn but the sky always called to me." As she spoke this her wings spread just a bit, as though reacting to thoughts of flying. "What do you dream of Night?"

Nightmare chuckled as she joked at him " you know...i will keep an eye on you" he blinked, his neon green eyes sparkling in the sun. " though i doubt...many things will bother us on such a...nice day" he smiled awkwardly, all green and fangs. He clopped beside her, enjoying her nearness and her warmth, he could feel her body heat and the brush of her wings, even through his tack. There was very little warmth in this place and she was like the sun to him, strange and beautiful. He shook his head, his armor clinking as he turned to look at her " a hilltop...is it?" he tossed his tail about behind him, a sign of nervousness. " It sounds lovely~" he agreed " it's hard for me to imagine what...flying might feel like" He chuckled deep in his throat " for obvious reasons...but" he blinked up into the bright daylit sky " i think it would be nice...from what i hear." He stayed like that for a second before blinking, his eyes wide and his ears pricked in surprise " what?...dream?" he had never been asked such a question so for a good second he was at a loss for words...." well...sometimes i dream of being "normal" and sometimes i dream of being the pumpkin king" he pulled another smile, hoping she would get his joke.

She smiled in return and bumped his shoulder playfully with her own. "Well, even so, don't let your guard down." For whatever reason she found herself drawn to his smile, many would think it ugly or scary but she found it quite captivating. The glow reminded her of hundreds of fireflies all dancing about gracefully and the fangs didn't bother her at all. As they walked she couldn't help but to think of what it would be like if this was her daily life, walking beside this stallion, sharing in trivial yet meaningful conversation. Part of her wished she could press near to him as they walked, like how her mother would push close to her father. She held back though, uncertain of what would happen and nervous about rejection. A frown pulled the corners of her mouth down as he spoke of not knowing flying. "I'm sorry, I guess I get carried away at times and forget that not everyone has the ability of flight." Lifting her head she looked at him, a serious expression upon her face. "I wish I could let you have my wings for a day so you could see, or that somehow I could share it with you." She blushed and laughed as she turned her head away and focused her attention on something else. "I am just silly." She mumbled. When he spoke of his dream she thought a moment about what normal would be for Nightmare. "Not to dash your dream but....I think you are amazing as you are. Being normal...is just so...normal." She pondered a moment more before the last part of his sentance reverberated in her mind. 'Oh! Pumpkin King!" Laughter bubbled from within her. "I think you should be! We could make you a crown and everything!"

He stared at her for a bit, watching the multitude of expressions that passed over her face, she was so fascinating that way. He felt his eyebrows knit in worry as he spotted a bit of a frown but decided to not mention it, instead working on answering her. " i dont know...i'm sure wings suit you more than they'd suit someone like me Lumriel." he smiled again " think about it...terror from the sky!" he chuckled again " or something...along those lines" He tilted his head a little, enjoying her laughter, it was like music while his voice instilled fear, her's brought smiles. " You are certainly...silly, as you say. But that's what makes you...you" He sighed, a smile still tugging at his lips " well normal folks seem to have more friends and such...i may be interesting, or scary, but sometimes i think it would be nice to instigate a conversation without the other party...thinking i'm going to eat them...you know?" he laughed himself, the noise like something out of a horror movie. " Pumpkin King, yes~ well i was raised in a pumpkin patch...i often imagine i'm already one! a crown of pumpkin vines if you please~" he brushed by her playfully and kept a watch on the cold fire that danced on his skeletal hooves, pulling a sliglhtly distressed face as he tried to tip toe around particularly pretty plants, as to not shrivel them.

She looked at her wings from the corner of her eye and then to his sides where wings would normally be placed. She visualized beautiful black feathers protruding in fantastic dark angel wings. Looking ahead her expression softened and she spoke in a calm tone. "Terror no, magnificence yes. Perhaps one day I will be able to share flying with you somehow." She looked over him again, taking in his muscular form and his flaming hooves. "I think you are far too handsome to be terrifying, but, I suppose that is just one silly mare's opinion." She smiled. If her being silly brought more smiles to her face she would gladly assume the role, she loved nothing more than to see him smile. "Well, as long as I keep you smiling I will remain silly." She grinned. Her mind whirred as he spoke of others thinking he was going to eat them. "It seems to me that you just run into others who have narrow horizons. I don't believe I ever thought you were going to eat me, sure, I was frightened at first but I never judge a book by it's cover. I consider myself lucky to have been able to speak to you and become close to you. Others are just missing out on something beautiful. No matter what, I will always want to speak to you." His laugh was unusual, more harsh than most but she found it to be quite attractive. Her sister would say she had very odd tastes when it came to males. She looked him over a moment. "Well you do kind of look like a pumpkin." She joked, her cheeks turning pink with delight. "Of course your majesty! Right away! Only the finest vines for you!"

He smiled softly at her, not knowing what to say to that. As he did not have wings it seemed IMPOSSIBLE to suggest flying was an option for him...but he was happy she thought that well of him, that she would fly with him, had he the means. He felt a blush creep up to his ears again as she called him "handsome" never before in his life had he been called anything but horrifying. But she was different. He nodded to himself and realized he could physically not stop smiling at this point. He very nearly BEAMED. " As for others" he murmured, clearing his throat " you are right...i suppose, those who i have met...either come looking for me as legend...on a dare or they have found themselves lost...all of which could easily be...frightened." He chuckled " not that i didn't do some of it on purpose mind you...it's lots of fun...when you dont overdo it." He swished his tail behind him, nervously, anxiously. " but thank you, my dear...for speaking...to me" he flicked an ear in emphasis and he pulled a face that could have curdled milk " i DO~!?" he frowned comically " why i'm not orange at alll...and i certainly hope i dont look like...MY pumpkins...they're all fat! maybe i should cut down on the rodents .__. " he laughed again and shook his head, his armor creaking under the strain " ohhhhh cut it out...majesty nothing!" he continued to chortle, another strange sound from him. " i would rather not...wear a crown...how itchy!" he exclaimed, amused and happy with his company. This day was turning out better than he had thought, maybe daylight wasn't so bad afterall.

Her steps matched his as they walked toward her favorite spot. She felt the excitement bubbling up within her, she wanted him to know about her life...perhaps...to be a part of it. "Well, I must say I went to the graveyard for a stupid reason, I wanted to prove myself so I suppose in that respect I am no different than the others who judge you so horrifically. I was frightened at first but....there was something about you. Something that told me you would not harm me." She looked him over with a smile. "Scaring people for fun huh? Naughty naughty." She giggled. Looking to the side, unable to look him in the eye she stated very softly. "I am he one who should be thanking you." She was glad as the awkwardness was lifted as they once again began talking about pumpkins. As though comparing him in her mind she arched her neck and observed his form. "Well, I suppose there is only a slight resemblance. Not orange...not round....hmmm...maybe the sweet yet spicy scent. That is it! Sweet and spicy!"

Nightmare looked down at her a smile playing on his lips, though he knew his smile was everything BUT charming he still wanted to...you know...be nice ford her. She was such a lady and he was, well...he'd leave it at that. " Well...back when i had a rider...when i was young and foolish. Scaring was an occupation i guess..." He chuckled a bit " naughty indeed" he pulled a silly face, or as best as he could mannage anyway. " You're...welcome i guess?" he felt odd, like he wasn't himself around her and yet, he was content, happier than he had ever been, even when he had visitors for brief times...He turned almost beet red under his brown coat..."s-sweet?...and spicy?" He flicked his tail back and forth, fidgeting awkwardly under her compliments and sweet looks.

There was that smile again, a smile that many would consider terrifying or hideous, but she loved it. Love? No! Could it? Shaking her head she focused on what he was saying about once having a rider. "You had a rider? My grandfather did too but he doesn't like talking about it. I think it makes him sad. What about you? If you don't mind my asking?" She never really knew why her grandfather would clam up about the boy that once rode him, but she had a feeling it was an unhappy tale. She hoped she wasn't bringing back painful memories for Nightmare, she didn't want to see him hurt. She just wanted to be closer to him. "Yes, you are sweet and spicy. I have never met anyone as gentle and wonderful as you, yet there is a side to you that is fiery and spicy. I lo-love that about you." She attempted to hide her little choke but knew it was less than smooth. She looked up as the hill came in to view, they would be there in a matter of minutes. For whatever reason her heart began to beat more rapidly.

He tilted his head, causing his leather armor to groan in protest " ah well..." he had never really told anyone about his young days, there was never anyone around to talk to and well...it wasn't a amazing subject...but it was her...he could tell her anything, at least that's what it felt like. His heart was doing funny things, he decided it was odd, but not...unpleasant. " Yes, when i was younger i had a rider, thats the reason...for all of this..."tack" i believe the two leggers call it...i had a man...or at least i think it was a man, who rode on my back and scared other people...from this place. I'm not sure...what he was protecting, but scaring people seemed...fun...back then" he pulled a quizical face, remembering days long past " oh~!!...and he had a pumpkin for a head...which sometimes came off..." He was nearly lost in thought when he snapped back into attention at the sound of her voice. There she went again, compliments, the grace of her smile..." he felt his heart jump into his throat as she mentioned " the L word" He must have seemed a nightmarish statue, staring straight again with a face like striken stone, though is heart was going a million miles a minute..." w-well..." he nearly croaked out the words, clearing his throat again he continued " i...err....thank you...."

She listened to his past silently, soaking it in. She had never encountered a human before but she had heard tales of them. A head that came off? That was not something she had heard very often. "Why did he scare people? Was he kind to you?" She laughed awkwardly. "I am sorry for all of the questions. Your past is very interesting though, I like learning about you." She could see now why he liked pumpkins so much, whether it was attached to his rider or not it was still a part of his past that perhaps persuaded him to enjoy the pumpkins. Perhaps she was just getting ahead of herself with assumptions. She smiled sweetly at his awkwardness and trotted ahead of him as she made her way to the top of her favorite hilltop. Upon reaching the top she extended her neck and allowed the breeze to play in her hair and stroke her feathers. Everything was so beautiful from this vantage point. She was excited for him to see what she had loved so much.

He thought on this again, he had been young, yes...but the man...if he was a man at all, was never cruel or anything more unsual than HE was. " He...must have scared people who did bad things...or came too close to home...i guess, i didn't really understand it...i just found it fun. But that's colt stuff" he chuckled a little " it's alright...i enjoy...talking to you." He watched a million expressions cross her delicate face before she trotted on ahead. He looked after her, dazzled by her brightness, her beauty...well...EVERYTHING. As he neared the top it took everything he had to look at the scenery and not...her. Once he looked, he did agree..." it's...beautiful" He whispered, squinting in the light, this was something he had never, in his whole life seen...so much light and so much natural splendor..." you were right...it is...nice"

"Scaring those who deserve it is alright I suppose, especially if they are perhaps meaning to cause harm." She enjoyed thinking about him being a colt, one day she would have to ask him more about his foalhood. She would love to spill everything about herself to him for some reason; she just felt she could talk to him freely. She felt his presence atop the hill and sidestepped so she was a little closer to him. "Before I could fly I would imagine this wind carrying me off the ground and into the sky." She giggled and turned to look at him. "I haven't ever shown anyone but you this spot, not even my family." She looked down as though in thought a moment and then looked up at him. "This may be silly, but...do you want to feel what flying is like?"
