Vital statistics

Number: 497
Height: 12'2"
Weight: 138lbs
Description: A fairly long, fairly slim, extremely mutated specimen.
Pokedex entry: It can stop its opponents' movements with just a glare. It takes in solar energy and boosts it internally.
Nature: Quirky
Ability: When a Pokémon with Overgrow uses a Grass-type move, the power will increase by 1.5× if the user has less than or equal to ⅓ of its maximum HP remaining.

History
- Created in TR's labs, testing various possible mutations for future use all at once.
- Escaped his pokeball a lot and caused minor havoc in the labs before being restrained and placed in safe storage until a suitable trainer could be found
- Aulus called Nadja an unethical communist b***h

Personality

There is nothing Discord loves better than, well discord. He was very aptly named by exhausted lab workers once they managed to stop him wreaking havoc and to lock him away in safe storage. Routine is boring to Discord, and following one - he thinks - is the sign of a feeble and incurious mind, or just makes you seriously uninteresting. In addition to this he's more than a little bit vindictive; schadenfreude is delicious and your suffering is hilarious. As well as playing pranks on people, causing destruction of property, and interrupting tender moments he likes to try to trick people with falsehoods. It doesn't really matter what it is - rumors that somebody is being unfaithful to 'the sky is blue because there's actually a big blue glass dome way up there' - it's simply the attempt to twist somebody’s perception of reality that he gets a kick out of.

In terms of loyalty... well he really doesn’t have any at the minute. He might find certain people entertaining and like to spend time with them, maybe even spare them his chaos or invite them to join in with it but he is fickle and if anything becomes too routine he will get bored and tear it apart merely for the sake of discord. Everything is merely for the sake of Discord in the end; he’s selfish, hedonistic, and the idea of taking somebody else’s feelings into account is totally laughable to him.

A worried email

Hi Kurt

You haven't replied to any of my texts in the last week and a half so I thought I'd drop you and email. I'm sorry if I seem like a worried fuddy-duddy, but if I do it's because I am.

I know you've been very busy since you went off to Kodo but you generally reply to me with at least 'k' or 'busy', so I was wondering what's wrong. Are you alright for money? You said you were doing pokemon battles and selling prints and things, but if that's not getting you enough to get by you know I'll help you out. Please don't be proud if you are having problems, you can even pay me back at a later date if you really want to.

Your brothers have decided that you've either been abducted by a cult or fallen in love with a ninja and gone to join her in her quest for vengeance after the death of her father/mother/sibling. They're currently planning a trip out to Kodo to rescue you or embarrass you in front of your mysterious ladyfriend as appropriate, just thought I would give you fair warning on that front. Other news for the two of them, Marcus has just landed a very nice position in wine buying. How the heck did he get that you ask? You remember Krystal, the short skinny blue-haired girl he dumped a year back? Turns out there's a facebook group for men who have dumped her, and one of the lads he got friendly with through that has an uncle that owns a small chain of off-licences. Through a long and slightly silly series of events you probably don't care to hear about, Marcus got himself a fairly senior buying position and is very pleased. This makes it Justin's turn to be the 'jobless wonder', after he got fired for being found having sex with the boss' daughter in his office. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry.

Good news about your sister too, things seem to be getting serious with her boyfriend and he's just been promoted in his father's property development business. They're moving in together at the end of the month, and she's hoping for a proposal before the end of the year. Your mother and I are fine, she's just joined a new art club that she's very excited by and I continue to be as dull as dirt.

Please do email be back, even if just with 'hi, busy' or something. Just let us know you're doing alright.

Missing you lots, hoping you're well;

Dad.

Fight

Occurs about mid way through the Rockets' captivity.

The passage of time was strange here. The time they spent in the cell seemed to flash past in the blink of an eye, while the time away from it dragged out into lifetimes. How long had it been since they'd arrived? With no way to keep track of time he had no idea and could only split it into those two categories: torture or respite, with another division to torture; whether it was him being hurt directly, or Hayes. He preferred the former, at least that started to hurt less once they were put back in the cell and he'd passed out or slept for a bit.

When the guards came for them this time he was still exhausted from the last ordeal, and they hadn't been fed in between this time either. Did that mean it hadn't been long, or that the Galactics just hadn't felt like giving them food or water? He had no way of knowing and no attention to spare for the matter in any case. Whose turn was it this time? They didn't always alternate, never let a pattern they could rely on build up. Aulus glanced over at his partner but Hayes was looking down at the floor.

He was supposed to protect him.

He had already said he was sorry so many times, cried so much that everyone was probably totally sick of him. He couldn't help it though, because Hayes mattered. He'd never had a friend like him before, somebody so patient and unruffled by his displays of temper or his sulking. Hayes accepted him despite all of his failings, and he in return protected the elite. That was the deal, wasn't it? Well he'd failed on his end of the bargain and so as well as hating himself just for causing his friend so much pain to begin with he was afraid that Hayes would turn to him and tell him to leave him alone, to get away from him. It was a stupid thing to think about at a time like this but he couldn't help it; he couldn't bear to lose Hayes' affable affection. He needed him.

The route to the interrogation rooms was familiar by now, which was why he was surprised when they were led in a different direction. Before he could look at Hayes again however his partner was shoved through a door and, a moment later, so was he. Instead of the usual room with a chair he was standing in a much larger space that was bare of furniture. The only things in it in fact were a Galactic and a Machoke. The guard who had brought him in gave a nod to his colleague and stepped back outside, shutting the door behind him and locking it with an audible click. Aulus turned to the man with the Machoke and waited, he was used to waiting to hearing what would happen to him by now. He did not have to wait very long.

The man smiled. "You might be wondering where your friend is."

Aulus tensed.

"He's next door with Commander Tethys, and today she's arranged a little challenge for you. She's got a short session planned today, ten minutes, but at high voltage. The twist is that your friend only gets hurt when you're on the floor. You can walk away from this and go back to your cell right now if you want, but if you do he gets an hour." The Galactic snapped his fingers, and his Machoke slapped a fist into its palm. The Galactic smiled again. "Do you understand, Rocket?"

Aulus stared at the mass of muscle before him; the Machoke was shorter than he by quite a margin, but he knew he didn't stand a chance against it. Stronger, faster, possessing an innate skill that no human could ever match no matter how well trained. He didn't have to win though, he just had to stay on his feet and how hard could that be? "I understand. I'll fight."

"One last thing." Another grin, a horrible, sadistic grin. "If you try to run away rather than trying to fight your friend he gets extra time, ten minutes added to the clock for every offense. Got that too?"

"I... I understand." Oh <********> This was not going to end well. No sooner had he thought that than the Galactic pressed a button on the stopwatch around his neck and nodded to his Machoke. Feeling sick and panicky already Aulus sank into a defensive stance. He wouldn't have stood a chance even on top form but weak from hunger, aching from the torture and sitting on a cold floor, and exhausted from sleep depravation he -

- Dodged a punch, getting the feeling the pokemon had let him evade its blow; it was grinning at him. A moment later he was on the floor, legs scythed out from under him, but he flicked himself back to his feet immediately. How long had that been? A second? Two? How was Tethys watching him? Was Hayes watching him too? He wasn't going to fail him, well he was, but he was going to fail as little as possible. Try to stay up, and don't run away. He aimed a kick at the Machoke's midsection, but the fighting type grabbed his leg and threw him back to the ground. As he got back up the Machoke punched him in the gut, sending his stumbling back doubled over. The muscular pokemon wasn't trying at all, he knew that if it had wanted to it could probably have put its fist straight through him.

It was playing with him.

Straightening up with a grimace Aulus advanced on the Machoke, because Tethys was watching from somewhere and he would not let her claim that he was giving ground. The Machoke just stood there watching him, grinning, arms held loosely by its sides. He didn't stand a chance. It knew that. The Galactic with the watch knew that. Tethys knew that. She would be watching him. This was hopeless. Aulus gave a scream of rage and despair and rushed at his opponent, throwing everything he had into a lighting fast punch. His fist slammed into the Machoke's jaw and it staggered a step to the side looking surprised by the small trickle of blood now running from one of its nostrils. This shock swiftly gave way to an expression of annoyance however and the next thing Aulus knew he was flying through the air, stopping only when he crashed into a wall.

Dazed and winded he stumbled back upright and looked around wildly for his opponent, but it was already on top of him and before he could move it slammed a fist into is face. He felt his nose break, and the spurt of blood. He struck back but the pokemon was far far to fast for him; it grabbed his fist and twisted his arm around behind his back. He struggled against it but the grip was inexorable, he was being forced to his knees; did that count as being on the ground? He was not going back on the ground. He drove the elbow of his free arm back into the Machoke's gut but the grunt it gave sounded annoyed rather than pained. Pain or not though apparently the blow did change its plans, but not for the better; Aulus' arm was wrenched sharply and he cried out on pain as his shoulder was pulled out of joint. When the Machoke let go of him his arm flopped uselessly down by his side, and he realized only then that he'd collapsed to his knees.

Tethys was in the next room with Hayes.

Tethys was hurting Alex.

Gritting his teeth Aulus pushed himself back to his feet and raised his left fist, right arm still hanging by his side. He took a swing at the Machoke but it stepped aside easily and slammed a fist into his temple. He wasn't aware of falling over, but the next thing he knew he was lying on the floor with his dislocated shoulder screaming in pain. Tethys would be hurting Alex now, right now, while he just lay here. He got to his knees and then staggered upright and stood there fighting just to keep his balance. The Machoke moved in again, and again he tried and failed to strike it; instead he ended up on the floor again, sent flying by a kick to the ribs. His vision blurred and for a few moments the world felt strange, unreal, distant. The pain of another kick to the ribs sharpened his focus again in short order however and he rolled onto his side, trying to get to his knees but just as he managed that the Machoke kicked him in the stomach and sent him sprawling again. Again he tried and again he was kicked back to the ground but on the third attempt he managed to get up, or was allowed to get up.

How long had it been? He had no idea, but not long enough. He just had to stay on his feet and not back down. Another blow to the head sent him staggering to the side but he stayed on his feet just barely. He couldn't breathe though his nose, and his mouth was full of the taste of his own blood. He couldn't keep this up much longer, but he had to, but he couldn't. He had to protect his friend, but he couldn't. A fist slammed into his ribs, and as he struggled to retaliate his legs were swept out from under him. His head cracked against the floor and his vision started to blur again. She was hurting Alex right now; he had to get back up. He got onto his knees, tried to get to his feet, but his legs wouldn't take his weight and so he stayed hunched over watching the blurred floor and the blurred drops of blood from his broken nose start to stain the pristine white surface. Had to get up. Had to. He remembered Alex's screams from previous sessions and found a scrap of strength left in himself, forced his legs to work and turned to face the Machoke again, turned to face it just in time to see its grin as it grabbed him, lifted him into the air, and thew him against the wall again.

He landed on his dislocated shoulder and gave a choked cry of pain. Had to get back... get back up. The world was going distant again. Had to get back up. His ears were ringing. Had to get back up. Had to. She... she was hurting him. He tried to get up, but he only made it as far as his knees before he slumped back to the ground. Had to get up. She was... she was hurting Alex. Aulus' eyes slid closed. He did not get back up.

The cavalry

Occurs at a similar time to Fight.

Two human Adonises with deep burgundy red hair stepped off the ferry and looked about in unison. Each had a massive rucksack slung over his shoulder, and one could only be told apart from the other because the rucksacks were on opposite shoulders, and where one wore a lilac polo-shirt the other wore powder blue. Each man donned a pair of aviator sunglasses and then they exchanged a nod and set off down the gangplank.

"So this is Kodo?"

"Bloody well hope so, if it's not we took a serious wrong turn somewhere."

"There were a lot of ferries on the dock, and we did drink a lot of wine before we boarded.... And beer. And whatever was in those blue and red sticky drinks the girl with the fantastic rack gave us."

"Good point!... Nope, GPS says Kodo."

"Well that's a start! Now then, lets find our brother shall we?"

"Damn straight; the cavalry has arrived!"

And with that the pair set of purposefully through the streets of Campheron, utterly confident of their ability to face the challenge ahead of them.

Within two hours the cavalry was in a bar half way down a pitcher of beer with two girls in short shorts and low cut tops batting eyelashes at them. Had Aulus known about this he would only have been surprised that it had taken them so long to get distracted.

A heartfelt email

Approx a week after the captured rockets return

Alex

So I've got a lot to say to you.

You know me; in person I either laugh stuff off like a dumb jerk or - apparently - burst into tears like an idiot. I just can't get anything done in person, I'm no good at it; don't know why but I'm not. Anyway, because of that I'm writing an email, a sober one I hasten to add. It's still awkward. There really isn't any way for a guy to tell another guy he loves him without everyone immediately leaping to 'gay!' is there? Especially not with how I've been acting. It's not like that though, you know that right? I just... I find it hard. I don't know how to cope with all this and I'm not used to feeling so much for people. I keep people out, push them away, that's how I operate or how I always have before.

You're different though, you put up with me and.... See this is where I'd probably either lash out or get far too sappy in person, text is easier. You put up with me and you diffuse me when I'm pissed off over nothing and you never laugh at me for anything.... Actually you laugh at me all the damn time but never for anything I mind. You just seem to get it, but I suppose in some ways I'm very easy to read. It doesn't make your willingness to make the effort any less important to me. Yea, sappy, sorry.

Anyway, what I really wanted to say was that I do love you, that you're the best friend I've ever had. I'd do anything for you, and wish I had done and could do better by you. I really feel sappy here, and really really like anyone reading this would still assume gayness, probably with 'he protests too much!' It's not like that Alex, I'm just no good at stuff and talking and... stuff. Sometimes you're 'eh' attitude gets on my nerves, sure, but I've no doubt I piss you off too sometimes, somewhere in the back of your laid back head.

I've forgotten what I was writing.

Anyway.

Basically I suppose I just wanted to say how much you mean to me in a form where I can't stop half way through or run away and crap. When I hit send it's said, right? I want it to be said but I'm afraid of it because I'm always afraid of real feelings, scared of being hurt I guess. What if I put my trust in somebody, if I let myself care for somebody, and they betray me? You won't though, will you? No, you won't; I do believe that after all we've been through together that you really care about me too and won't use this or anything else against me. I trust you. If I didn't I couldn't have even started writing this.

I suppose that's it more or less; I've said you're the closest friend I've ever had and that I love you and crap, what else is there to say? Probably a lot but I can't think of it or cope with processing it all right now so that'll have to do for the time being.

Co-op tonight?

- Aulus

Bedside visit

Approx a week and a half after the captured rockets return.

He didn't like coming here for personal checkups. He could feel them frowning at the state of his back, and had picked up hushed discussion of another skin graft. He was sodding done with skin grafts, the two they'd done when he'd first got back had been quite enough for his tastes. Hopefully the remaining raw weeping tissue would start healing over soon. Hopefully. There was really only one thing that motivated him to come down here, well one thing other than the fact that he knew Alex and Claire would worry. That thing was in fact a person, and Aulus eased himself down into a chair beside his bed with a grimace.

"Hey there." Naturally, no response. "You look as shitty as ever." He fell silent then and looked down at the dark-skinned man's still face. After a few moments he clasped one of Jerome's limp hands. "You came of worst of us in the end, maybe right from the beginning. You were the toughest though; I wish I was tough like you, like I pretend I am. I'm not. You know that though, don't you? Of course you do, everyone who was in that cell knows. My act kind of fell apart when I started sobbing uncontrollably every time they hurt Alex... but it was my fault, you know? I... I don't know."

Aulus sighed heavily and looked down at the dark brown skinned hand he held in his own. "You know I've always kind of thought black skin is prettier than white skin. Is that racist? ******** if I know, I don't even know if 'black' is racist or if we're meant to say 'coloured' or something.... See this is why we're different, it's probably only middle class idiots like me that probably give a crap about that kind of thing." Sighing again Aulus turned Jerome's hand over, observing the contrast in colour between the palm and the back of his hand. "Much more interesting. Classier. And you don't turn into a cooked Krabby if you stay out in the sun. Far better design if you ask me, not that you did...." Sagging slightly Aulus gave the limp hand a squeeze. "You'd better wake up soon. I've got stuff planned for the gang of us, I think you'll enjoy it. Hope you will. Mostly just hope you're going to be okay."

After some minutes of silence Aulus released the other man's hand and eased himself back to his feet. "The doctors probably want to see me again by now, and after that I should go and get some rest.... Wake up soon Eyes, I miss you." Bending again to give the tattooed man's shoulder a last squeeze Aulus turned and walked away slowly. He couldn't die. He couldn't. They'd made it home, all of them, together. He had to be okay.

Phaethon.

User Image

Vital statistics

Number: #078
Height: 15hh
Weight: 210lbs
Description: A relatively small rapidash. He does not trot but rather has a very smooth four beat gait, the speed of which ranges from a quick walk to a slow canter.
Pokedex entry: When at an all-out gallop, its blazing mane sparkles, enhancing its beautiful appearance.
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Powers up Fire-type moves if hit by a Fire move.

History: Aulus received a Pontya egg for his seventh birthday and, because he was a bit of a pretentious kid, he named it Phaethon. The pair grew up as the best of friends but Phaethon was stolen when Aulus was eighteen. Six years later he saw him again, battling on live television in the hands of the trainer who had taken him. With Claire's help he tracked the trainer down and recovered his old friend. All was not healed by this, the stallion has years of trauma to overcome, but at least they are together again.

Personality: Phaethon is a small stallion with a big heart. His is incredibly loyal to his trainer and will strive with every fibre of his being to do what Aulus asks of him, and to protect him from harm. This extends to his friends as well, which he used to make easily. Since he was stolen however he has become slower to trust and quicker to anger. Under normal circumstances Phaeth is a friendly curious sort, always pleased to make a new friend and always sticking his nose into things to see what they are and how they work. He's also a bit cheeky to people he likes, he'll sneak up on them and tag them or if it's Aulus he'll quietly undo his bootlaces or something. If he's threatened however, or a friend is, or if he's just having a bad day he lashes out at the smallest provocation. He wishes he didn't, hates that part of himself, but that doesn't mean he can so easily shake it.

Of all of the other pokemon he gets on best with Char; he finds the other fire type's calm competence reassuring and if Aulus isn't about he will turn to the stalwart Charizard when he's distressed. When not distressed he tends to gently tease the serious beast, encouraging him to have some fun as well as do his duty. At the other end of the scale Phaeth does not like Tortie. At all. He thinks she's rude and far too aggressive, representing the worst that had grown in him - and his trainer - since they were parted. After several vicious fights (that Tortie won) they have developed a terse respect for one another in battle and work efficiently together under these circumstances but outside of battle they avoid one another like the plague.

It's salmon.

Luckily they'd told him what was inside and so he didn't try to let it out in a confined space.

There were a couple of things that Aulus noticed when it was fully manifested, and the second of these was that it seemed to have been altered to be better adapted for swimming.

The first thing he noticed was that it was pink.

"Pink?"

The Lugia blinked and lowered its head to be on a level with Aulus'.

Oh. Yes. Legendary psychic type, of course it could talk. He wasn't sure why it came as a surprise that could but he hadn't been expecting the comeback... and even if he had he wouldn't have expected it to be like that. "Y-yeah. Salmon." Aulus tried to look into the creatures huge eyes rather than focusing on its sodding huge sharp looking beak. "So... you've been assigned to work with me, and that means you'll need a name," he continued, trying to establish something approaching authority. "I suppose you could choose it for yourself if you want to." There was no point trying to give it a name it didn't like.

the Lugia replied thoughtfully, giving a bass 'churp' as it spoke.

Aulus repressed a snort of amusement at the incongruence of comical noise as compared to the deep silky tones being projected into his head. "Yes well... no hurry, I suppose, I can just call you Lugia for now."

"Oh," dur, "no, don't call me human... I know you're being facetious by the way. No, my name's Aulus." It more or less was these days, calling it a codename seemed silly when his friends referred to him as such off duty as well as on duty.

Another churp was given.

Ugh, yes, the labs. He still wasn't comfortable with what went on in those - or had until they'd been blown up - and doubted he ever would be, but it was just something he'd have to live with. There was no going back now and, honestly, if he hadn't joined Team Rocket what were the chances that he would ever have got the chance to train a Lugia? Got Phaethon back? Made the friends he had? No, things were better this way. "Well, if you don't turn out to be a complete dunce you can spend plenty of time out of your pokeball," Aulus replied sweetly with a flash of a smirk. "For now though," he raised the pokeball and waggled it meaningfully, "other people need to use this space, we're all a bit cramped at the minute to say the least."

The Lugia eyed the pokeball darkly.

Aulus gave a shrug and then a nod. "Tomorrow morning; I can take Red out over the sea and let you out in flight. Be ready for that, I'd hate for you to start falling and make a complete tit of yourself."

The Lugia raised one crested eyebrow.

Aulus grinned and pressed the recall button. "I'm famed for it."

Peace.

It was different to flying on Red. Very different. The size was the main thing but the style of flight was different too, even with the wind rushing through his hair he got more of a sense of grace than he did of speed and agility. In fact the Lugia hardly seemed to use its wings at all leading Aulus to wonder if this was as much levitation as it was flight.

Whatever it was it was a pretty damn magnificent experience and with the harness that attached him to the legendary pokemon by his belt and D-rings stitched onto his trousers he hardly even needed to hang on. Nothing but sea and sky as far as the eye could see, nothing but that save movement and yet... stillness.

The Lugia had had something to say to him about anything and everything up until they had taken off; it was silent now, perhaps enjoying the flight as much as he was.

Aulus buried his fingers in the great psyhic type's soft feathers not for balance or even really for warmth just for... well just for contact he supposed. The brush against his mind he received in return should probably have been startling, but it was almost as though the Lugia knocked and coughed politely before entering and returning the gesture, in sentiment though not in kind.

The clouds drifted by above.

The water stirred below.

Pokemon and trainer flew on betwixt the two and knew peace.

Killer.

User Image

Vital statistics

Number: 700
Height: 2'0"
Weight: 30lbs
Description: A small Sylveon with normal colouring.
Pokedex entry: It wraps its ribbonlike feelers around the arm of its beloved Trainer and walks with him or her.
Nature: Calm (+special attack - attack)
Ability: Contact with the Pokémon may cause infatuation.

History

A little while into his enforced stay in Ambergris, due to reasons of the base being blown up, Aulus was assigned a Sylveon freshly shipped in from Kalos. He promptly dubbed the fairy type 'Killer' when it tried to strangle him. After this little incident however Killer fitted himself into the team quickly, becoming especially friendly with Tortie.

Personality

Killer is quiet, controlled, and just about as murderous a creature as one could hope to avoid. He integrated himself into the team quickly, ingratiating himself with Tortie by fighting her when they first met. He lost, miserably, but she liked his spirit and they have become snark buddies. He doesn't have much interest in dominance so long as whoever is dominant is decent to him (which Tortie is) he's content... and so long as he get to fight on a regular basis of course. Training is fun but not a patch on a battle when he can really tear into his foes.

Killer has been known to try to strangle things with his feelers.

Together.

"You b*****d, you complete b*****d!" Aulus was having trouble shouting, laughing, running and breathing at the same time. "Come back here right now, I swear I'll have your bollocks! Fried!"

There was a snort of amusement, but no sign of relenting.

"Yes fine I know I'm vegetarian, I'll still have them! Give it back!" He tripped over a tussock of grass and flailed to recover but despite his best efforts ended up flat on his face anyway. "Owwwwwwww." Panting for breath and still half laughing he rolled over onto his back and flung his hands up in surrender. "Fine, keep them! See if I care!" The sun was out and it was warm for the time of year. The grass was soft, and he had no commitments or responsibilities for the remainder of the day. Aulus flung an arm over his eyes to block out the brightness.

After a few moments he heard foosteps approaching and smirked to himself; "Well, back are we? Not fun when I don't play, hu?"

Phaethon dropped the sunglasses on his trainer's chest and flopped down beside him, scooching over close to the human.

Aulus yawned and put on the shades, shifting closer in return so that his side rested against the fire horse's belly. "You're an arse, know that?"

The Rapidash licked his head and snorted again as his muzzle was shoved away.

"A complete arse, and I hate you."

They both yawned and drifted into a light companionable doze. For a short while things were just as they had been before the pair were parted, but as the sun began to sink they awoke and reality set in once more.

Sitting up Aulus took off his shades and gave his old friend a lopsided smile. "Hey, so we're part of a terrible criminal organization that profits from the suffering of others; at least we've got each other again right?"

Phaeth whuffled and nuzzled his cheek.

They stood up, Aulus swung himself onto the Rapidash's back, and together they headed back towards base.

Things would never be as they once had been, innocence once lost could never be recaptured, but at least they were together.

Box.

The new room was... it was a box. He'd paced it out, was still pacing, and he was still convinced that it was very slightly larger than his old room though that could be warped perception and memory thanks to the cramped stay in Ambergris. It was still a box though. A white box. A bright white box with artificial light and artificial air. It was- A box, definitely a box not the other word floating around in his head like a shadow; always there, sometimes larger or smaller but always there. Inescapable.

That however was why it was a box not the other thing, because he could walk out any time he wanted.

Aulus paced over to the door and opened it, peering out into the corridor as though looking for somebody. After a couple of moments he was satisfied and closed it again, turned to look around his box once more. He'd put plants over there, there, and there in the corner. Move the bed out and- Do that now.

Long strides brought him over to the relatively comfortable bunk and restless hands grabbed it, dragged it roughly away from the wall, turned it through ninety degrees and pushed it against the other wall.

Tortie, who had been sprawled on the bunk asleep, looked up at him in a most insulted manner.

"I'm rearranging my box," Aulus explained a little lamely, shoving her paws out of his way and sitting down. Looking around again he tried to picture where he'd put nails in the walls for his photographs. This was his box and it was going to feel like it. It was going to be a room. It was going to be his room and it was going to be nice.

Tortie huffed but shifted to place her head in his lap.

"It'll be nice," Aulus repeated aloud, stroking the Absol's thick mane distractedly. "We'll have plants, and pictures, and a... you know, a screen thingie that looks like a window. Maybe a little indoor water feature. Would you like that?" Water was good right? It was all... peaceful and s**t. s**t. "I miss the old base." He missed old times, old ways of being. He missed things he wasn't sure he'd ever had, or been, and that didn't make any sense. "Am I going nuts?"

Tortie licked his hand and shuffled closer to him.

"That's not an answer you know." It was reassuring though, grounding. "I'm not going nuts." No. This was just all new and too boxy, it would become less boxy and he'd settle in. "Maybe the water feature is too much but I'll get those light bulb things that are like natural light. Not that you care much about light but I'll like it and the plants will need it.... Tomorrow, first thing tomorrow I'm going out shopping for at least a couple of plants, and picture frames so I can work out where I want them. I'll need to go to a printers too, get prints of the photos I want. They've given us forty eight hours, we may as well use it right? We can go to that place that does the fancy treats too, would you like that?"

Another lick to the hand was delivered, this time with a rumble of approval into the bargain.

Letting out a heavy sigh Aulus shifted himself around Tortie so that he could lie back on the bed. "Good, we'll go then.... And I'll put something on the ceiling," he continued as his pokemon companion shuffled around to rest her chin on his stomach. Working the fingers of one hand into her fur he waved upwards with the other. "Fairy lights. You know, the little colourless ones? Or blue I guess. I can do a star scene or some crap, it'll be pretty." Dropping his arm again he brought his fingers to his mouth, chewing unconsciously on his thumbnail. "It'll be nice." It would. He'd put all of those things into it, maybe even the stupid water feature, and it would be his space and it would feel like a home. It would.

Aulus closed his eyes, fingers still deeply knotted in Tortie's fur, and tried... tried to think himself outside of the box.

Thanatos.

User Image

Vital statistics

Number: 657
Height: 4'11"
Weight: 88.2lbs
Description: An average specimen.
Pokedex entry: It creates throwing stars out of compressed water. When it spins them and throws them at high speed, these stars can split metal in two.
Nature:
Ability: When a Pokémon with Torrent uses a Water-type move, the power will increase by 1.5× if the user has less than or equal to ⅓ of its maximum HP remaining.

History

Thanatos was originally stolen from a young trainer by another rocket but he turned out to be 'surplus to requirement' and was placed in storage. Lacking a water type, and determined to build a more diverse pool of options for his mission teams, Aulus acquired him soon after this. Having changed trainers twice in such a short space of time has left Thanatos wary and disoriented but Aulus is working hard to get the bubble frog to warm up to him. Rather than confuse him with another renaming Aulus has left him as Thanatos, even if he thinks it's a little daft.

Personality

Still young and thoroughly displaced from all he once knew Thanatos is still trying to find himself, and his place in the world. He is a quiet, shy sort by nature and if given the opportunity he will hide in or under things, or climb to the top of shelves and so on. Young and impressionable as he is, and lost and lonely as he is, he has become quite awed by the elder stronger pokemon on Aulus' squad and has taken to following Char around as he finds the fire type's steady manner reassuring and thinks that his good manners indicate some kind of noble birth. As one might guess from the latter assumption Thanatos is also a fantasist and lover of tales of heroism and lost heirs reclaiming their birthright; he hasn't yet worked out that things don't work in the real world as they do in stories. Thanatos is also very fond of Paul; the small spider is the only member of the team he doesn't find either intimidating or outright scary.
___

Though he is now slightly older, and fully evolved, Thanatos still has a soft heart and a long way to go before he can cope well with some of the harsher realities of life.

Bumpy start.

"You are not helpful you know."

Aulus directed this comment to his bed or, rather, what was hiding under it. It had been a long morning first looking through the database of stored pokemon he could request (and respective attached fees) and then, once he had decided, getting the paperwork sorted. It wasn't actually that onerous but Aulus was sore, frustrated and shorter on patience than usual which had made everything seem ten times longer and more fiddly than it actually had been.

Trying very hard to find some more patience from somewhere, a metaphorical emergency stockpile perhaps, Aulus knelt down gingerly using the bed for balance. He was really really sick of simple things being so Gods damned difficult, but that was what he got for tangling with a Legendary pokemon he supposed. One hand on the bed and the other on the floor he tried to peer over the top of the roll out boxes/draws he had acquired on his furniture shopping trip to Camphoreon. He couldn't see a damn thing.

Tortie, who was lying on the bed, gave a snort of amusement which earned her a glare from her trainer.

"You can shut up, this is all your fault you know," he grumbled.

Tortie snorted again and gave the Absol equivalent of an eye-roll.

"And none of that either," Aulus added without much hope of being listened to on this particular occasion. Shaking his head he turned his attention back to the space under his bed. "Come on, come out, nobody's going to hurt you," he said in what he hoped were reassuring tones. As he spoke he reached forward to take hold of the handle of one of the three draws; as he pulled it out there was a sound of scrabbling from behind it and he just caught a flash of movement heading behind one of the other draws.

Patience!

Patience.

He was not going to get off on the wrong foot, was not going to lose his temper, was generally going to be an exemplary person. "C'mon, you can't stay back there forever."

"Frrrrrrrrk!"

Aulus' brows rose and he lent back a little; a reply was progress right? "Yeah, sure, now could you please come out? This is really uncomfortable right now."

The pokemon behind the draw made another croaking noise but did not emerge. Aulus sighed and shook his head, time for another tactic? But what? He wasn't going to send Tortie under there to flush it out given it had taken shelter there when she growled at it in the first place.

"Spiiiii!"

"Hu?" Aulus blinked; that was Paul's voice coming from under the bed, he hadn't seen the little bug come down off his shelf but he must have done so. What was more, he was getting a response that sounded like 'conversation noises' to Aulus rather than 'exclamations of fear'. Sensing that now was not the time to interject into whatever was going on he shifted into a sitting position, wincing slightly at protests from his healing injuries. So now what? He just waited? Unable to think of a better course of action he settled for that although as it was 'nothing' he wasn't really sure it counted as a course of action.

He sat there on the floor picking idly a a hangnail for perhaps a couple of minutes, listening in to the conversation he couldn't understand the words of. The tone however was telling; the Frogadier's croaks seemed to grow gradually less worried as Paul chittered at him, and eventually after a decisive 'Rrrrk!' the small blue pokemon hopped cautiously out from under the bed accompanied by his five-legged new friend. Aulus smiled and waggled his fingers in greeting. "Well hi there guys, who's hungry?"

"Froooooooo'diiir!"

"Spi-spi!"

"Hehe, I'll take that as two calls of 'me'!" Smiling at the pair of pokemon Aulus got carefully to his feet, giving Tortie a ruffle once he was upright. Thanks to his grouchy Absol it might not have been the smoothest start to a relationship but, thanks to Paul, it looked as though they were back on track now. "Let's go and get something to eat then, hu?"
