"It's just..." It took her a moment, but after a small flutter of uncertain fingers she finally brought her free hand to rest on his shoulder. His hand on her waist was warm and she found herself gripping his hand a little tighter as she barely managed to follow his patient, artful lead. After the twirl, shes swore she was light headed, but not from the motion. The dip caught her at a good time, because she fell into it very fluidly, because she found she was too swept up to be tense. Her cheeks were tinged a pleasant pink and when she finished her started thought, she sounded breathless, "...unconventional...I guess..."

When he brought her back to her feet there was a brief jump in her heart, a brief jump of panic that they were going to fall apart and go back to their seats. But instead he drew her close, causing her heart to twitter for a far different reason. She suddenly felt as if she'd forgotten how to speak English, or any language at all really, because all she could manage, very quietly, as she remained close, was his name, "Ren..."

"Unconventional is better than being conventional," Ren said with a wink as they danced, his movements slow, steady and gentle to work with Alessa's uncertainty. It had been a long time since he had felt this relaxed around someone, and it was exhilarating.

Standing there, with Alessa's hand still in his own, her teal eyes caught splinters of the moonlight, glowing gently. And her voice...so quiet and small, but so very lovely. Ren felt the ghost of a smile cross his expression, his hand leaving her waist to reach up, gently cupping the side of her face.

"Alessa," he said, and leaned in, giving into the moment to press his lips to hers. It was a simple kiss, a light pressure and it only lasted a few seconds before he pulled away. His thumb brushed softly against her cheek as he raised his other hand, holding her face in both of his hands now. "I hope this counts as a suitable date," Ren murmured, just before he leaned in to kiss her again, this time making it last a bit longer before drawing back again. He did not want to make her uncomfortable, but the moment had been too perfect to not seize the opportunity.

Something that had baffled Alessa, ever since that night of Spin the Bottle, was how genuine and tender Ren seemed to be with her. She didn't understand it, she certainly wasn't doing anything special. And she'd seen him around Gabe and LW and others and knew that he didn't normally get nervous or shy or any of the things that sometimes peeked through when she was there. It wasn't only that she was, well, flattered that she could do that to anyone, but it was also that she liked it. That little, hidden side of his was magnetic and, despite all embarrassment, beside all her bashfulness, it made her smile. It made her smile now and feel silly.

When he touched her face, she found she was unable to look away from him. And when he leaned forward and she knew what he was about to do, she stayed still, watching him under her lashes and their lips met for a moment and her heart stuttered dumbly in her chest. It was over long before her heart seemed to realize it too, because when he held her face in his hands she felt a little dizzy. Her lips parted into a coy, subtle 'o' as she found herself unable to articulate a single word. She felt relieved, lucky even, when he kissed her again. So lucky, even, that she reached up, perhaps without realizing, to touch the back of his neck with her hand as she returned the motion. It was a shy return, with some eagerness mixed into the self-consciousness. She had never kissed anyone quite like this.

When he pulled back from her, she let her hand slide down to rest on his shoulder again. It took her a moment to find anything to say, as she swallowed through the heat of her cheeks. Finally, she said, "Just suitable?"

Ren let himself be lost in the kiss, holding Alessa's face gently, almost tenderly, between his hands. It was a pleasant surprise to feel her own smaller, slender hand move to the back of his neck, and Ren smiled against her lips. He pulled away, just briefly, then leaned in a kissed her again, just a quick peck, and then once more before leaning entirely back. His hands slipped down to settle comfortably on her waist.

"Oh?" he said, lifting a brow in amusement. "Are you saying it's more than just suitable?"

With a playful grin, Ren swept her up into his arms again, this time making the kiss last much longer, putting just a little more warmth into it. When he pulled away, he was grinning, letting out a teasing laugh as he spun the two of them around. He had thought it would be awkward, thought that his special planned date for Alessa would be corny and cheesy. Perhaps it was, but whatever the case, Ren felt pretty happy about the turn out. He stumbled a bit, falling to the floor and pulling Alessa with him, still laughing.

"So," Ren said after a moment, slightly breathless as he grinned over at Alessa. "I'd say this was a pretty good third date, wouldn't you?"

Alessa couldn't help it, but for a brief moment she felt as if she was just being showered in kisses and his little pecks caused her to laugh. It was almost as if they had tickled, because she lips were certainly tingly afterward, for a rather different reason. And even though she felt a bit bashful about it all, about the attention and the affection, they were alone and she felt she could smile about it. There was no shame in that.

"Beyond suitable. Wonderful," she told him breathlessly. It was all she was able to get out before she squeaked, swept up in his arms suddenly. The sound didn't last long, because they were kissing again, longer, warmer and, Jack, it was a good thing he was holding her or she might have fallen over from trembling. When he pulled back and spun them around, she was so dizzy that she couldn't help but laugh, because the world felt as if it had turned upsidedown. In a way it was righted again when they fell to the floor, looking upward at the sky. Alessa sighed contentedly and scooted closer so that their shoulders and hips were touching. She smiled up at the stars, "I would."

Ren lay there beside Alessa on the rooftop, his gaze moving upwards to look into the night sky. She had moved closer, her shoulder pressed against his, their hips bumping together. It made him smile to know that she had wanted to close the distance between them without making either of them uncomfortable.

"I'm glad," he said. It felt good; felt wonderful, even, to use Alessa's word, to be lying here like this, just the two of them together. Ren had not felt this nice in a long time. Alessa was different from the ghouls he had associated with before. In a way, he felt almost not good enough for her, but at the same time he felt that nobody was good enough for her, that he was very, very lucky to have managed to catch her eye.

"Thank you for saying yes when I asked you out," Ren said, tilting his head towards her. "I think you will make quite a lovely ghoulfriend, wouldn't you agree?"

His hand reached Alessa's, and turning his head back, Ren carefully and firmly linked his fingers through hers.
