Malodore hesitated, then nodded slowly. "Grazie. I just did not want to make you uncomfortable again... sometimes they appear to have a reflexive mind of their own. I do not want them to try and eat my brain because I've 'hurt' you," it said, a trace of calming cheerfulness in its tone. "Please, do not worry..."

Malodore's assurances managed to ease just a little bit of her guilt away. She tilted her head slightly again, and her words were now tinged with a soft sense of amusement. I understand. They are pretty reflexive. Fortunately, they know you. One of the tentacles unfurled, and wrapped loosely around Malodore's wrist. And they like you. A lot. They would never hurt you. Neither would I. She said this matter of factly, and her tentacle slid away from Malodore, curling back up into a cinnamon bun shape tight against her head.

It opened its beak in a wry smile. "Grazie - though, such things may not always be under conscious control. One of the first things one must learn is means of restraint... the body, especially when it comes to monsters, can react on its own to apparent threat. Thought and rationality need not apply."
Once the tentacle retracted, it lightly touched the bruised area; this would probably hurt, but it had to examine the injury. "I don't feel anything broken - though I'm surprised, frankly. The bruising and contusion would definitely have smashed my hollow bones, and probably others' as well... you are fortunate..."
It nodded, and lowered its hand. "I believe it is just bruising, though please, keep a look out for any mental disorientation or additional pain, especially stabbing. And if a hematoma forms, you must see the Nurse... and those can form in the next weeks, too. So you must be careful."

While she could see the reasoning in Malodore's statement, she still stubbornly refused to believe she would ever let any of her tentacles hurt it. However, she let the topic slide, content to know that it was examining her regardless of the danger. She tried her best to stifle the wince as it touched her sore skin, but her shoulders tensed up regardless.
Ah, I find it highly doubtful that anything a gnome could throw at me would ever crack my skull. Evolution has granted us with frighteningly thick skulls, you see.. She rapped her knuckled against her head on the other side. Else we turn to cannibalism. Skin and muscle, however, not so much.
Her head turned up to look at it once it had completed it's examination. Is there anything I can do for the pain? Normally I'd just grin and bear it, her eyes crinkled at the pun. But since I do have my own personal brilliant doctor on call, I might as well ask.

"Flatterer," Malodore said, amused - but also not-so-secretly pleased. "Let me see... I hesitate to recommend a herbal remedy, as I'm not familiar enough with the physiology of your species.. I'd hate to poison you accidentally. Hm. Let's begin with an application of ice. I could go back to the undead dormitories - there's an ice room in the basement to keep the zombies nice and cool..."

Riley couldn't help but chuckle at the idea of going all the way back to the undead dorms just for some ice. That sounds messy. How about we just retrieve some from my freezer instead? She teased, moving out of her seat. When she reached for the curtain that separated the room, she paused and turned, holding a finger up.
Give me a moment. I'll remedy the darkness for you. She then disappeared behind the curtain. A few minutes passed, before the curtain parted again, and she held out her hand. This should be sufficient. She murmured. The room behind her now had several candelabras lit, filling the room with a soft, wavering light. She had moved them all near the entryway door - which was the opposite side of the room to where they would be walking. As small as candlelight was.. she wouldn't be taking any chances at making him feel uneasy due to fire.

"Grazie," Malodore said approvingly, noting how she'd moved the fire as far away from it as possible. "Ah, so it isn't filled with scandalous materials," it added, its tone amused as it walked through the formerly darkened room. "Israfel will be disappointed."

Riley turned her head just slightly, eyes slit as she sideglanced at it. Malodore. She scolded playfully. You know I'm far too innocent for such things. Innocent. Yes. Let's go with that.
The kitchen was dark, but the light from the previous room filtered in just enough. Riley opened the freezer door - which was abnormally large, equal in size to the refrigerator door below it - and pushed aside a large batch of brain to slide her claws under a small glacier of ice that had begun to form at the base of the freezer. With a snap, she broke the flat piece of ice off, and held it out for inspection. Is this satisfactory?

"Innocente, is it..." Malodore said enigmatically, then held out one hand for the ice. "Va bene. We must wrap this in cloth so that it does not directly contact your skin; otherwise, the cold will do damage instead of aid you..." It brought down the ice on the edge of the freezer, breaking it into shards which it then scraped together. "Smaller pieces will mold around your tentacles more effectively."

Riley briefly scanned her kitchen, coming up empty. I'll get a cloth, then. She exited the kitchen, disappearing for a brief moment before returning with a folded length of fabric that she had left over from when she'd made her skirt. She held it under the freezer, so that it could scrape the shards down into it. While doing so, she mused briefly on all the little things that it knew about taking care of her. Her eyes brightened, and she murmured out quietly.
You know something, Malodore? You're going to make one hell of a great doctor.

"You think so?" Malodore replied, clearly pleased and flattered by her assertion. "Knowledge is a vital component, but so is simple competence and the ability to project that competence to the patient. Competence and confidence both... Keeping the patient calm and allowing them to feel hope in their own healing is a larger part of medicine than most know. That, I will offer to those of this world."
"As for humans..." It grinned. "For them, I have a few artistically rusted cleavers. I need to improve my cackle, though..."

Riley listened carefully, as Malodore explained it's craft with well appreciated eloquence, and she became a touch distracted. It was difficult to put her finger on exactly how she felt, at the moment, but she could tell there was something so beautiful about the way Malodore spoke when it was passionate about something, that made her giddy. She may have become just distracted enough to fail to realize that all of the ice was in the cloth, ready for her to wrap. She just kind of stood there with her hand out, and listened.
At the mention of a cackle, she snapped herself out of her reverie and pulled the cloth tight around the ice. Oh? She tied the cloth at it's edges, and plopped it on her head.
Ow.
She picked it up, and placed it more gently on her bump this time, before continuing. Well, let me hear it then. She challenged with a remarkably gentle voice.

"... hear it? Che cosa, adesso?" Malodore gave Riley a look of faint despair. It thought a proper doctor, one who scared as well as healed, should be able to summon up all the terrors of medical malpractice in a single crazed look, a single maddened vocalization. Actual malpractice need not occur, necessarily...
"Ah... very well." It cleared its throat a bit more loudly than was really needed. "Ah... kyahahahahah... hah?"
It sounded more like a rusty gate in its death throes than anything else.

Riley was at a loss as to how to react to Malodore's 'evil' laughter. She certainly didn't want to laugh, if only because it would be insulting. Her eyebrows bent down sympathetically, and she reached up to rest a hand on her cheek. It was.. adorable. But she certainly wasn't going to tell it that.
I know. She perked. You probably need to be stimulated. You can't just laugh for no reason. You need a reason to cackle viciously. Her eyes slit mischievously, and she carefully closed the freezer door. What you need is a victim. She backed away, standing behind the table so that it was between them. But not just any victim. Her tentacles twitched menacingly. A victim you have subdued yourself.
Her demeanor changed, turning malicious. That is, if you think you can.
Was that a challenge? I do believe it was.

"A... what?" Malodore blinked at her, utterly nonplussed. "Am I supposed to find and 'subdue' something solely so that I can stand over it and cackle? That doesn't seem like a good use of resources."
