He admitted and took the card back and stuffed it back in his pocket.

Adorable. It was a terrible idea, like poking a bear, but Ever reached out to muss Zac's hair before he eased into motion.
"Food first grasshopper. Give you time to worry about it and also enough time for the place to fill up a little more." But he knew a decent place with really cheap burgers and absolutely no decor that would serve as filling up before the main event. So to speak.
"More people there are around, the less hard he's going to look you over. Less the crowd's crazy..."

Zac swatted at the offending arm and hand that tussled his hair, most of it went crazy directions but the bangs seemed to have mind of their own and most slid right back to obscure his vision and face.
One strand though pent a few seconds standing at attention before lapsing back to an odd angle but more respectful of gravity.
Zac scowled and ran his fingers through it, or what of it he could since there were little oddities like the bang braid to contend with.
"Reasonable idea..." he did concede finally though at the idea of waiting till it was more crowded. "And don't call me Grasshopper, You aren't exactly a Kung Fu master OR an ant!"

"But you're so quick to jump." Ever laughed at him, relaxing instead of taking offense, rolling his own shoulders in a shrug. It was a bit of a walk: he didn't curb his pace, this time, but left it up to Zac to trot a little so he could keep up.
He blew on his fingers as he walked, pondering the merits of investing in -- or stealing -- a new pair of gloves. These really were getting ratty..."Anyway, you're here, so you can't mind it that much."

"And what animal would YOU be then?" He demanded as he quickened to a sort of half walk half jog of irritation to try and keep up with the longer stride.
"Actually I suspect I have a masochistic streak, I think that would be one of the ONLY logical reasons for some of my behavior and companionship of late." He gave a small smile despite the sharp snap of irritation that he, as always...felt. He was however at least starting to feel slightly more at ease. It was on one hand irritating to spar this way with Ever, but at the same time it was ...refreshing? No that was probably NOT the word for it...but all the same.

Ever made a dismissive noise that abruptly turned ponderous, his hands shoved into his pockets and shoulders hiked up. What kind of animal was he? Sharp but generally harmless, gawky and graceless -- it was how he even thought of himself. Of course, he'd add clever and resourceful to the list, whether they were true or not.
"...hn. What kind of animal do you think I am?" He grinned down at Zac, shaking his head a little. "Don't say stork. It's been done."

"A mallard" he replied without even breaking stride. "Oversexed, self important with sexual tendencies that are considered to be 'deviant' be the 'enlightened' masses." There was more than a little sarcasm running off the word 'enlightened' when he said it though. He flashed an over large slightly forced smile at ever that turned into a smirk the second he stopped pressing the issue, and a small chuckle.
"Hmmm." he pondered "Or a crow..." he added, but did not elaborate on the second choice, god for bid he admit to any of the more flattering ties to the second bird.

"Hmm." Ever thought about it for a moment, his head tilted just slightly. It put his face mostly out of Zac's view, hair falling over his ears, eyes narrowed and bright with amusement. He could have taken offerse -- in all honesty, it probably would have been easier to take offense.
Instead, he smiled and shrugged. "Quack?"

Zac blinked in surprise, he'd expected at least -some- kind of reaction from that... but not a quack.
He glanced down at his shoes for a few steps, slowing enough in thought that he had to quicken again to catch up.
"Sorry..." he said though it was so fast and quiet that it would have been easy to miss.

That got another look, a quirked eyebrow, considering. Ever wished that he had another cigarette to toy with, to twirl between his fingers, to serve as distraction. It was hard to focus this much on one person, to stay serious, but he fought for it.
"Is it weird if I ask you about school?" And failed. The lighter came out instead, and he turned it over and over in his hand, licking his lips. "Am I entering the creep zone if I do that?"

Zac scowled again at the cigarette that appeared but said nothing about it. He had to stuff his hands deep in his pockets though to resist the urge to snatch it.
"...Depends what your asking I guess... are you really curious or just looking to make 'polite' conversation?" He asked. There was no malice or anger in it for once, it was just an oddly analytical question and was tied to an perhaps just a touch overly direct stare.

"Um. Bit of both." He shrugged, blinking down at Zac and not lighting up just yet, no matter how much he wanted to. Ever wasn't totally oblivious to the way Zac's face soured at the very idea.
"I didn't get to do the whole school thing until college." He cleared his throat, shooting a look away from Zac and sticking the unlit cigarette into the corver of his mouth. "Homeschool, instead; parents though I'd get ideas elsewhere, I guess."
Just one brief pause and he smiled again, almost helplessly. "...and rightly so, I guess. So yeah. Curious."

"So... you want to know what it's like?" He arched an eyebrow and then gave a small sigh and rolled his eyes. "Light the damn thing... I know you want to. Maybe you can explain the whole cigarette 'thing'...seems like everyone is stuffing those damn things in their mouth."
He reached a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose for a moment as though trying to pick a place to start.
"Well... one it's not a -normal- school, its a reform style school... Not supposed to have personal things in your room, or wear deviant clothing, I have to take out anything from my ears when I go back."
He waved his hand at the piercings.
"Some people skirt the rules SOMEhow..."he said with clear aggravation at the idea. "You get assigned room mates for better or worse, It's... might makes right in most cases unless you can find a way to hold your own."
His tone suggested he very much had... though he wouldn't say how.
"Most day's its alright... my Roomie...dropped out so I sort of have a single until they assign someone new. Though if they try rooming me with some football player I may have to arrange for some kind of unfortunate accident." He said darkly

Zac had told him to light up, so he caved and did; fighting with his lighter as the younger man spoke, fumbling to get the end to catch. He did not, however, explain the why of the thing -- probably because he couldn't. There was no good reason to start smoking. It was just a matter of not stopping once you did...
"...mmph. So what did you do to end up in there, then?" It was muffled as he put his lighter away, shrugged at Zac.

Zac's nose crinkled, irritation or disgust it was hard to say.
He humphed and clenched his hands in his pockets and was quiet for a very long time, to the point where it seemed he might not answer at all before he shrugged and restored his 'petulant poker face'.
"... Mother blamed me for Father leaving." He said, somehow turning the words Father and Mother into alien references rather than making it sound like they members of the same species let alone the same family.
