Howl honestly couldn't see why Kali was behaving like this if Lance hadn't dumped her. "It was a harmless joke, Kali! I didn't think you would take it seriously!" He paused and shook his head. Did she not see the humor in the letter? He had found it hilarious, declaring love for someone he obviously didn't love. "It was so. Unlike this!" He jabbed at the offending pink stands. "This is torture! Betrayal!"
He paused and rose an eyebrow at the mage. "I'm keeping my word," he said. "You made me promise not to slime in your presence. If you'd prefer that than this, however..." He moved closer to her, and traced his finger on the table, leaving a thin line of green slime. "There."

"I take it back. Don't slime. Please don't slime." There was a major, visible shift in her attitude as the line of slime followed Howl's finger across the table. She shuddered, stepped away, and held up her hands; she HATED slime. She despised it. Ugh. It gave her the heebie jeebies almost as bad as bugs.
Which was pretty bad.
"Calm down about your hair. You look good in any color, doofus. I think pink is very becoming on you." She said, wiping her hands as if the slime was already on them. "It will wear off in an hour. It's completely harmless. There will be no evidence of it, either, unlike your joyous letter. What if my uncle read it before I did? Or, what if Lance had been there?" She knew she was blowing it out of proportion, but she didn't understand why. "He wouldn't have read to the last part. He would have read the first bit, and come to beat you black and blue. You should think before you do things! Consider us even." She sniffed, and sat back down on her chair, crossing her arms haughtily.

Howl smirked, clearly pleased with her reaction. "I thought so," he said. Oh, he definitely knew of her aversion to slime. He had almost done so when Luka and Puff had painted his hair purple. He was half tempted to summon a large spider and put it in Kali's hair just for revenge.
Even better, perhaps he would turn her hair into spiders. He knew how the women on Gaia seemed to have a hate for all things eight legged--in fact, most females in general. "Look, I'm sorry I wrote the letter." The wizard flopped down into his chair and sighed. "If it makes you feel better, I won't write another one." Ever. Now that he knew what to expect, he knew better than to write love letters to girls. Making sure they felt loved wasn't worth having his hair destroyed. Definitely not worth the trouble.
"Lance is a smart man," Howl said with a shrug. "You can never trust a letter when it's professing love to the one you care for most. It's what I would have done."

Kali narrowed her eyes at Howl as he smirked, poised to snap at him for being an a**; but as he slumped into his chair, she paused, and uncrossed her arms. Leaning back in hers, she pulled her knees up and propped her chin atop them, watching him.
"...Just...write it differently, next time..." She said quietly, kindly. She wasn't fighting any more. She wanted to; she hated not having the last yelling word in a fight. But, it was getting her no where. "I just...want to avoid trouble. That's it." She explained, hoping he would understand.

Howl frowned slightly. Not as if he was upset--more as if he was confused. This was Kali's way of avoiding trouble? Part of him was still furious about the color of his hair--even if Kali had assured him that it'd quickly wear off; part of him wanted to make fun of her for thinking dying his hair would avoid any sort of trouble. "How would you like me to write it?" he asked.
"Why didn't you just say that instead of doing this?" He pointed to his hair. "I would have listened." Or maybe he wouldn't have. Howl wasn't known for being the most understanding of wizards. He stood, and with some small amount of reluctance, went over and hugged the red headed mage.
"Now if you ever try hexing my hair again, I will not hesitate to curse you."

"You wouldn't have listened." She was quick to point it out, crossing her arms and sulking. "Don't you curse me. Curses are mean. Don't be a d**k, Howl, we just stopped yelling." The irritated attitude was still there, beneath her kind demeanor, and very little that she did was working to make it go away. It didn't help that Howl was still upset - but, a large part of her didn't care if he was upset. SHE was upset. Didn't that matter? But, when Howl stood and came to hug her, she hugged him back, snuggling into it and sighing.
"Don't make me bite you. I'd hate to bite my best friend."
