The Dashing Hero

*facepalm* This whole thread has confused me. This post the most. It seems stupid that you think planning something else would be repetitive and boring. You can't know everything you want to do by the age of 18. You can't plan everything you get in life, there's always a monkey wrench there to screw you up. You need to work past those things that mess up the things you plan. Most of everything I've ever planned to do has been screwed up, but there's no way that makes life boring! If anything, it makes life BETTER! Planning new things, trying new approaches on life...That's what people are SUPPOSED to do! You aren't some computer program, designed to go from beginning to end just as planned every time. There are some things to change your life. Simple as that.

Oh hey, I kinda like what you have to say here.
But back before something did change my life, I had something, someone to actually live for, something to do, you know?
Now I really don't have anyone or anything to live for and by that I don't mean I want to die, I just mean nothing motivates me to do anything other than live. neutral

Not long ago, I fell stupidly in love (though there's really no other way to really do it). Enough so that I was prepared to eventually leave my wife. I was thrown out for another person (which, in case it's never happened to you is so much more painful, emasculating, and humiliating than just being dumped).
After that I was brought back to my life, deprived of the thing that made me most happy to get out of bed each day. Back to my impoverished, friendless life, nevermind the endless disappointment of being back in art school, the one place in the world where I thought I can expect to make friends, again, the place that I had spent the last two years of my life just waiting to go. The only friends I had that I'd ever spent any facetime with dropped off the face of the internet, so I didn't have them, either.
At this point in time there was only one thing alive that I had only positive feelings for, the first person that I told about all of this. Kenny, the chinchilla. We took him to be put to sleep, the first day that she spent with him as a couple.
Alright, still with me? /bitching. If I reacted to my feelings then, I'd have given up. I'd be dead, festering as we speak in a grave, the entire contents of a bottle of sleeping pills in my stomach. Hell, if I thought my life weren't going to get better, I'd still be intending to kill myself, if I wasn't dead already. I thought about it a lot and for no less than a week wanted to see the world end. I wanted to see every last man woman and child die before me before dying myself, but I got past it, because of one thing.
Tomorrow.
Every year I am so much more than I was before. I have so much more left to learn, see, and do. I felt I needed to tell you this story, because you need to know that I'm not someone that feels that life is this wonderful, bright, shining thing. Sometimes, in fact most often, as I see it, it ******** sucks. At this point in my life, it is pretty much synonymous with "suffering." Nor am I someone that doesn't know what it's like to have plans change in a shocking, jarring, potentially life-ruiningly horrible, awful, excruciating and humiliating way.
I'm going on for knowledge, for the hope that tomorrow just might be a little better than the steaming pile of s**t that my life is right now. Whatever that case, I am confident about one thing and that is that I'll be a hell of a lot wiser, more skilled, more experienced and probably stronger than I am right now, physically and surely emotionally. If that's not enough for you, then I don't know what to tell you, other than to say that I am more sure than ever that you're being nothing but a petulant child who indeed doesn't deserve the years ahead.

I went something similar for awhile...but then I realized what fun is living day to day, doing nothing.

If you're bored with life...something is wrong. Life is a wonderful, beautiful thing...full of unimaginable splendors if you just take a moment and look for them!

I mean you said you're almost 18? What have you done? What have you seen? Probably not a lot...so just go out and do something! And ask yourself if you really want to die...
Seriously, if you were standing on top of a very tall skyscraper and I came up behind you and pushed you...what would honestly go through your mind as you fell to the ground? Would you have any regrets?

The reason it's called 'life' is because you're supposed to live. We aren't born to die...we die because we lived.

We die because that's the order.
If you really pushed me off a skyscraper the first thought that would come to my mind would be "Why the hell did someone push me?"
I'm not asking to die by any means, I'm just bored with life.

True, but in order to die...we must have lived...

If you don't want to be bored...then don't be bored. Figure out something you want to do and do everything in your power to do it.

I mean seriously, I'm...almost 20...and I'm just kind of starting to figure things out. This is a time of self-exploration...the world shouldn't bore you. It's your freaking oyster dude!

That's something friend.
In a sense I find that you understand my own thoughts but in turn don't agree with them.
Your right, there is always something new out there, but in my opinion it's monotonous, honestly.

Maybe I am a child, not worthy of the time I'm given but so is most of the world who only live to ruin others' lives the only difference is I choose not to bother anyone and am just bored and hate those who seek to make everyone miserable.

I was once told that this life is just hell on earth to decide wether we're worthy to go to heaven or not, wether I completely believe that or not is my own business but even in death there is peace.

Sorry if I'm straying from the subject, I've sort of said my opinion and am now attempting to stretch it.

You know, I've had this one dream of mine.
Everyone laughs at it and calls it impossible and maybe it is but my dream is to one day have my own personal island, build a house on it and live away from the world.
It's my personal goal in life and I'll do what I can to achieve it but I can't do it at the pace I'm at and if I die before I reach my goal then I've failed.
I'm not motivated because I'm afraid to fail.

So I just move on in life like a cloud just floating around.

Unless you've fathered numerous children, mastered every existing field of art, and learned so much that you could shame a panel of college professors in the top universities of the world, then you're not done and you disgust me by thinking that anyone should be.

The OP said that there's nothing more right now that he wants to do; not that there's simply nothing more he could do with his life. My guess is that he has absolutely no interest in doing any of the things you mentioned there, & there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I don't think it's right for you to be "disgusted" by somebody because they might not be interested in accomplishing things like parenthood & numerous scholastic achievements & whatnot during their lifetime, no matter how many years they live for. Clearly you place a lot of value in things like that. But that's just you, & you shouldn't flame others for not placing value in the same things you place value you.

Quote:
What I wish was that people like you could give up their years. Give them to me. You don't deserve or want them.

Although I can kind of understand where you're coming from & all that, there was absolutely no reason that that thought of yours had to be posted. To me, that reads like a more watered down version of saying "just kill yourself already" or something.

Honestly, that comment was really childish & not acceptable.

I'll be 18 come May.

Everything I've ever planned in my life has been ruined.
I don't plan anything I ever do anymore.

All my decisions are last second and the world bores me.
That might be why then. It bores you cause you don't shoot for anything big. Rarely do last minute things turn out to be epic. Unless you're in like NY or something where there's hidden concerts and stuff. Even then I'm not a huge fan of that stuff.

What's the worst thing that can happen if you keep trying to make plans? You said it yourself, you're not planning on killing yourself so you're just putting yourself in a boring situation. If the more exciting things in life require planning or work, then get better at it. learn fom your past planning mistakes.

Correct it, find something you want to do. If you can't find people to do it with, then screw it, and do it by yourself. Of course this doesn't work for sex.. That requires two people at least but you see where I'm going with this. I like to go camping, but its rare that I find people to do it with, so alot of the times I go by myself.

Well you're already failing then. Wether you like it or not, you have that dream, and by not trying to work at it, you'll never attain it.

And really that's not that crazy a concept. An old retired co-worker of mine has dones that very same thing off the South Carolina coast. He lives in a self sustaining cabin with his wife. He's like 70, so it took a while but its clearly possible.

Lol, your comment on sex made me laugh.
When I was younger I actually had a couple of friends slightly younger than me, the things we used to do included making explosive/flaming arrows, train jumping, exploring the woods/swamp, fishing.

We had so much fun back then because they had the same ideals I had and I think the only reason I did any of it was because they looked up to me.

In the area I live now I can't really sneak off to do any of that and none of the kids around here share my ideals.

If a man doesn't want to father a child, that's fine. Better to not do so, then, as bringing another unwanted child into the world is a favor to absolutely no one. To deem that learning specific facts might not enrich his life is also fine. In many cases, he might be right. Do decide that maybe art isn't his thing... Well, that's a bit more narrow of him, especially to be willing to die before so much as touching it, but is insufficient in and of itself to really make me sick. This goes so far beyond that.
It's not about facts, it's not about It's not even about art. It's about intellectualism, it's about the mind, about the self, about life.
To make so foolish a statement when one is 18, and has just taken their first step into adulthood is like watching a movie and declaring loudly that it sucks no more than three seconds in. To even assume that you could begin to know the potential wonders that life may hold bespeaks not only presumption on aw truly epic scale, but also a pompous sort of arrogance that defies all belief.
I don't feel that my disgust has misplaced. Your words have moved me farther from that decision if anything, and I will never... Never stop being disgusted by those who place anything but the utmost value in the mind.

All you're showing me is that you don't understand the nature of my comment at all.
That wasn't my message in spirit or letter. Some people exist to fritter away their years, waste their lives, and ultimately produce nothing. He seems to have decided that this is how he will spend his, or at least not appreciate them.
I am an artist. I would not only devote these years to improving myself artistically, but to leaving behind a body of work.
Now I'll stop here before I segue into my beliefs on why the life of an artist is worth more than the life of a non-artist, as this is another topic entirely.

No, I'm just bored with the world.

Even the kids I used to hang out with don't interest me anymore.

I guess it all comes back to the age old answer of " What purpose does my life serve other than nothing?" neutral

At this point I'm relative to a cloud, floating along in life.
