Frank Ticheli's newest composition Rest

I heard it when I went to watch my boyfriend perform in the Texas 5-A concert band. He got to meet both Ticheli and John Mackey.
I was insanely jealous :O

It's such a beautiful piece and the story behind it just adds to the emotional value of the piece. Very Eric Whitacre-esque

Jealous. Very, insanely jealous.

This song has also been added to my list. "Rest" is definately a powerful piece.

I would say Frank Ticheli's Shenandoah kind of makes me sad. Mostly because It reminds me of a friend that's very ill.

Eric Whitacre's "Air For Band." We played it for our winter concert (though it didn't sound as good as the beautiful recordings).

Katya Cea Caesura
American Elegy by Frank Ticheli. Ticheli composed this piece after the incident at Columbine High School. It is is memory of the kids who died. Half way though the song there is a trumpet solo that is to be played from off stage. Most people will play it in the back of the auditiorium. We actually sent our trumpet player to the cat walk over the auditorium. It was an amazing effect that gave me chills every time we played it or practiced it. It is the saddest song I know, and the most uplifting song I know.

we played this in an ampitheater once, and the effect was amazing. we put our trumpet player behind the ampitheater and had him walk up to the front of the stage

!! My band director told us about that! The catwalk thing that is. It is such a beautiful piece, I love that trumpet solo, but I of course always tear up at the point where the entire band has the melody of the Columbine High School song.

We played that my sophomore year in concert band. I loved the beginning, but I don't quite remember any of the rest. It was an amazing piece, though.

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone say Hymn to the Fallen (from Saving Private Ryan) yet. This song makes me want to cry so much. We played it last year in symphonic band. I always got sad at the part when the clarinets (my instrument at the time) had running 16ths, heard in the recording by violins, it all just sounds so beautiful. Chorus and everything.

If anyone has ever had the privilege to have Sam Hazo as a conductor, you would know about Psalm 42.
It's a short piece that he has all the bands he works with warm up to.
The first few times you play it, you play it like normal.
Then he tells you the story behind it, and tells you to relate it to an experience of your own then has you play it again.
There won't be very many dry eyes in the room.

And just in case you've never met Mr. Hazo, I won't go into details, because if you ever do I want you to experience it fully without knowing what to expect like I did.

it's not really from an orchrestra band or anything like that it's from this band called Apocalyptica and the songs called Ruska. This band is amazing they all play the cello, and they don't sing either but this piece had me tearing up the first time I heard it.

For some reason Mozart's Jupiter symphony makes me tear up a bit. I have no idea why, but the passion just overwhelms me.

I just recently sang Bach's B minor Mass and whenever I sang the "Qui Tolis" by myself with the passion you are supposed to put into it, I would cry a bit.
