"Rilascio adesso!" Malodore said, a little sharply; it snapped the coat out of Calder's grip, then took a deep breath - breathing wasn't strictly necessary for it, but it helped calm. "Now, por favore - I do not particularly enjoy being physically touched - I appreciate your gratitude, but your methods are... not pleasant for me." It willed the blades on its back to flatten out some, as they'd risen like hackles at Calder's continued 'assault'.
"I am a plague doctor, Calder - not a bird, though we have avian aspects. Beneath my clothing are bones and muscle and internal organs, and they are all very nicely wrapped up in bandages that I change every morning. And," it added dryly, "I happen to be wholly genderless, so there's nothing... exciting to be seen."
If TMI was the only way to get Calder to knock it off, then... TMI it was going to be! And, if that failed, then so help it it was going away and leaving the leeches to their doom.

The monster looked at his now empty hand before looking up and frowning. "Oh, I'm sorry. I thought that you might be part kelpie with the legs. Wants to check and see if you had a horse legs or bird legs." He had little idea what a Plague doctor was, but if it was a type of bird thing, he would talk to Israfel and ask. Birds knew birds after all, right? He was positive, and he would check and see more about it. For now, he thought abou the last bit and smiled. "I was wondering that too, but now that you mention that, that's a good way to check." He probably would have just went 'oh' when he was looking about down there, but he hadn't thought of it at the time.
Seeing the ...uh, what was a nothing? - so flustered, he frowned and sat in place, putting his hands right on his lap so that it could see it was not going to move them. "Don't worry. I didn't see anything. It's too dark. We're in the shade after all, and you have a thick dress on." That was probably the only saving grace in that there was plenty of shadows here, and Halloweentown was rarely ever bright outside.
Wondering if there was a way to make things better, he stood up and made for the waistline of his pants. "If you want, I can show you I'm a boy." It seemed a fair trade after all. Naked was naked to him, and he never did mind. He guessed Malodore didn't like his organs being looked at. Maybe someone would be tempted to reach out and eat one.

"That's quite alright," Malodore said, its back-blades smoothing out nicely. "I believe they give detention for 'indecent' exposure, or so I am told... and you've been in enough difficulty in the punishment arena, have you not?" Calder seemed pretty cavalier about the whole 'clothing' thing... very different from Malodore, for sure. "You have an equine true form, do you not?" That would probably be the reason.
It was relaxing again now that Calder seemed to get the idea. Non toccare.

Calder was neither offended or disappointed that Malodore declined, and he sat back down, settling his hands in his lap and watching as more of his leeches left the pond and went about inspecting the creature. A few were taking test nips, then discussing with others that it wasn't that great and to see if they could find a more tender spot. Their search would no doubt be in vain, as they had a general dislike for anything that wasn't fresh.
While most people didn't know what a kelpie was, Malodore seemed to be much more knowledgeable than most, which only made Calder smile. "Yup. I have two actually, but I can only use one right now. It's not the most true-true form, but it's a form nonetheless." He looked about and wondered if he should show him. It wasn't THAT impressive. "It's not that great. A little....tad.......pretty." He muttered, before looking down at a leech and stroking it's back.

Malodore nodded, grateful that for now the kelpie seemed to have calmed down. "Pretty is good, is it not?" Prickles of lore it had read crept through its mind. "Do your people not lure beings to water to drown? Ride the pretty pony?"
It smiled faintly at the soft sting of leech nibbles - how familiar! "They prefer fresh, correct? Fresh, warm flesh and blood?"

The phrase "ride the pretty pony" and become rather familiar to him, and though he frowned, he nodded. "Yes. That's the general way we go about it." He said with a sigh. "We look beautiful and pretty to humans, and they ride us until we find water." The very idea bothered him. Not only was he not as frightening as the other monsters, who no doubt didn't take him seriously, but he let humans ride him. Sure, it was temporary, but he ...had never been ridden. It just seemed strange and a breaking of his personal space and values. Due to recent events, he was also a bit hesitant to mention drowning. "....but only on humans. We don't let it work on those who aren't our mistresses, masters, or food. Not that I need to bother with any of those." Not unless he didn't figure things out on his own.
He looked back, frowning. "They eat fresh foods. I usually just let them fed off of me, but I've brought them fresh meat from the cafeteria before and they seem to like that, unless it has gone cold. They like it warm as often as they can, but I've seen them eat cold food if they aren't being fussy. used to give them leftover toes all the time." Little end pieces from the kitchen table.

"Hmmm. I will bring them fresh meat from the cafeteria, then. The leeches in my family's house fed off of livestock kept for that purpose. Plague doctors are rather tasteless for them, I think. Though that doesn't stop them from trying, does it?" Malodore plucked a leech off of its tail and tickled it fondly.

He smiled, reaching down to pet a few of them as they passed and,some upset, moved to Calder to see about getting a snack. A few of them went over to lay on his legs and n** him, while a few moved up his clothes to find their favorite spots. He paid them no mind, far too used to it by now, and watched as the others welcomed and moved to Malodore, wanting to be tickled too.
"They are stubborn, like me." He pointed out, beaming proudly.

"Of course, if they have been feeding from your blood most of their lives." Malodore didn't really approve of the doctrine of humours, but at least for leeches it seemed to be true... "They have picked up threads of your own essence through that feeding. It will be hard for them to leave you - but I will give then the finest home in my very largest leech-jar, and will bring them to you - in a smaller jar - whenever we can arrange it."

"That would be amazing. Thank you so much, Malodore! You are a life saver." (And that wasn't a doctor pun either.) Turning about, Calder whistled between his fingers and gestured. What few leeches who hadn't come over to investigate the stranger were moving out of the pond and worming their way over to the rest of the group.
"Everyone, this is Uncle Malodore. You are going to stay with him while Daddy deals with some personal issues that keep me from taking care of you. No. This doesn't mean I love you any less. I'll come and visit when I can. I expect each and every one of you to behave. That means stay out of stuff, don't bite any minipets, and do not go into the ghoul's bathroom. Okay?" The leeches squeaked and clacked their little jaws in response, and Calder gave a few of them little rubs. It really did bother him deeply that his room would be far less occupied now than it had been, but now he didn't have to worry about them being in the wild on their own. "If any of them give you any trouble, I'll take care of them or you can send them to their jar without any supper."

Uncle Malodore? Strange, but... the plague doctor was willing to roll with it. "Buon giorno," it told the leeches, though it felt a little silly as it did so. "I promise you, I will let you know if there are any problems - and as soon as your situation changes, I will return them to you safe and sound," it added, focusing on Calder this time.
It was already planning what it would need to do with its new guests. The leech-jar was quite large... it would need some lovely swamp-water, some algae, a few snails, some gravel... a soothing proposition for the remainder of the afternoon.

He rose up, coming over to give the Plague Doctor one last hug before he had to bolt to class. "Thank you so much! You are a Jack-send. I was in a real jam. I promise I'll get this whole mess sorted out so I can take them off your hands. Thank you bunches. If you need me, I'm in the basement of the monsters dorms. Big stable doors. Warped wood. Can't miss it." He leaned down to give his pets one last pet goodbye, feeling a little misty-eyed at having to leave them. "O-Okay. Good bye my friends. You all be good. Watch over each other. Play nice. Don't eat before going to bed. No drinking from people without permission. Remember no fighting or running off with strange creatures." He reminded then, and then summoned the courage to leave them. "I'll visit soon, Malodore. It was great meeting you. Thanks a lot!" To that, he moved off, walking away to get to class. He felt better that he met a friend and also his leeches were safe, but it would be strange to go to his dorm and not see them.
Well, that just meant he had to get this water problem fixed. Then he could get his friends back. Till then, someone great was watching over them.
