Athena huffed.
What did she need to do to PHASE this dragon?!

Watching him blow smoke rings on another ghostling, she had to wonder if he was just mocking them. Was this whole thing just a game to him?

When the ghostling seemed to be covered in soot from head to toe, she saw him shake and lash his tail, then head towards the park.

Somewhat curious to what he was going to go, she decided to follow him.

------------------------------------

Sally flinched, scared that he might start blaming her for it.

"I-I, um... i-it was the dragon you see. He sorta, um, broke your house..."

She looked around nervously, seeing Athena was now nowhere in sight. Had she gone to fight the dragon? She turned back and faced the mayor, afraid he might lash out at her, but was more determined to go look for Athena.

"I-um, it's not safe around here... I-I think we should leave and look for a safe place to hide... or at least help the others bring down the dragon..."

She looked down, touching her two index fingers together nervously, then looked back up at him.

"W-What do you say?"

"My house... my house... " he said and then repeated. "my house... Of course! I need to get the things from my house. I have fine things. China and glass and marble and jade. Fine things there. I will need them."

Moving away the mayor began drifting through the rubble of his house. What he would find he did not know. But they were his things and the finest his money could buy.

Gya nodded. "Alrighty! Shall we put it to the test then?"

Maybelle let go of the fox lore she hand in her arms. "Go," she said as it raced off towards the dragon.

The fox lore zipped passed the dragon going left and right trying to distract and trying to, little by little, move it towards water as the lore also looked for a weekness.

Winchester scurried out of the path of the flame, but he couldn't resist stopping to look back. A cloud of black soot enveloped him as he turned to face the dragon. Looking down at his clothes, he wondered how soot could stick to something that no longer had a physical body.

Looking up at the dragon, Winchester knew he was being taunted. Well, if the dragon thought he was nothing more than something to toy with, then Winchester would give the monster something to play with. He was already dead after all. What else could the dragon do to him?

Winchester clenched his fists and fluttered his little wings. Moving towards the dragon, the sailor followed the beast as it headed towards the park.

"You don't deserve to live, you monstrosity!" Winchester whipped his fists in front of him and let fly with his fire balls. The flames joined together and looked impressive (at least to Winchester) for a moment, but without the Guardian spirit's strength to boost his range, the fireball quickly dissipated and fell like fireworks on the back of the dragon.

The red and gold basilisk slithered around the crushed bodies.

"Such a mess, such a waste."

"Maybe not such a waste," said the basilisk, answering her other self. Picking a up piece of flesh, torn from it's owner when it was tossed by the fling of a scaled tail, Errdii turned it over in her hands with a look of curiosity.

"No, you wouldn't..."

Before her other self could finish, Errdi took a bite from the flesh.

"Why do you do that?" her other self asked with disgust.

"Human or animal, meat is meat. And it annoys you."

Drawn by the heat of the dragon's fire, Errdii wound her way through the destruction and towards the park.

(OOC-Couldn't resist throwing this one in. She just seemed to fit into the story.)

He ignored the fireballs. He ignored the fox lore. Valkon pretty much ignored them all as he moved towards the center of the park. Tearing down buildings and squashing the living was hard work. He needed a nap. Some would have considered it adding insult to injury to ignore ones enemies in such a way, especially when they were doing their best to stop you.

Valkon simply paid them no heed. He had fun puffing smoke at Winchester. He had fun doing all this and that was what mattered. When he found the very center of the park, the dragon simply curled up, tail wrapped around him and began to snore.

When he woke, he would continue tearing down houses and chasing the living from the city. That was what this was about. They would move away from this place. It would be nothing but ruins. And once he left the park, it could be considered safe. He would not damage one stone, one tree, or one animal within this place.

The mayor was still digging around in the ruins of his house. He glanced around for some help as he spotted an unbroken vase beneath. He would need some help. Spotting Gya, he said, "You! You there! Come help me! Now!"

Would Gya listen to him or not?

(( I guess your roll will decide, Chibi.

LOL @ Cricket. I love it. It's a good thing Sarah can't see this... she'd really be grossed out by it. XD Although that might have been fun. ))

Gya grabs the mayor and looks him straight in the eye. "YOU HAVE NO TIME FOR THIS! IT'S EITHER YOUR BELONGINGS OR YOU BELOVED TOWNS PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE YOU AS THEIR LEADER TO PROTECT THEM!"

(( He was missed again... but he's still available for another try. ))

Mayor Thimbleditz shoved Gya away from him. "My things of course. They should be protecting me. I am the mayor after all. Hmpft..." Turning away, he went back to looking for his precious porcelain and glass.

While Valkon snored, his crows settled into the trees overhead. Several animals began to creep out, looking around for danger for a moment and then they moved towards the dragon. Some curled up between his feet. Others against his belly. One or two even perched on top of him. They had no fear of him but new that he would protect them.

For awhile they lay like that. The perfect card scene. Then Valkon woke up. Realizing that he had company, he gently moved a few of them while he got to his feet. A few minutes later he was moving towards the city again. That had been refreshing and now he felt ready to continue. As he passed by the mayor's house, he was amused to see the ghostling digging through the rubble. That was something he'd never do in real life.

((Lol, that mayor just doesn't want to listen. xD))

Watching him sleep in the park, Athena began to wonder what his true motives were. Was he really trying to destroy the humans? Was he trying to scare them away?

She watched as animals seemed to come out of hiding, all going towards the dragon, as if seeking shelter from him as he slept. She was so confused. Why would they go to him? Did they not know he was dangerous?

When he awoke, he seemed to shake them off gently and headed towards the city, seeming to leave the park intact. Athena shook her head. What was going on?

She decided to follow him still, hoping to find out what was REALLY happening.

------------------------------------

Taken aback by the ghostlings response, she floated and stared as he turned down a warning from the other ghostling as well, seeming to rummage through his razed house for valuables. Did he not know that he was one of them now? Worldy possessions to be the least of their concern...

Deciding to give it one more try, she headed back towards him.

"S-sir! What are you doing? Don't you know those things don't matter to us anymore?"

"Of course they matter." the mayor scoffed. At first he tried to reach for it. Then his arm went through the side of the wood blocking his way. He could feel it in his fingers now, but when he pulled it towards him, it was stopped by the wood. For a moment he stared in confusion, but then as he continued to tug, the glass vase finally came through the wood entirely. He grinned slightly. "I have it."

The mayor did not know that it takes awhile for the object to change under his control, but the wheres and whys of his actions did not matter to him. He was just happy he had saved it. Moving to the side, he intended to place it down where it would not get broken while looking for me. He suddenly tripped, his foot caught on the nail from a broken table. The vase shattered when it slipped his grasp.

"No! No! NO! That is NOT supposed to happen!" he yelled out, throwing a slight tantrum. What was he to do now? He needed more help was the only answer he saw. Where was everyone? Where were his guards? They should be helping him.

Valkon continued towards the houses in the residential area. He did not hesitate but a moment at each house. He sniffed to see if there were people inside before he began smashing the smaller buildings. In some cases they ran even as he walked their direction. One or two were crushed but that was their fault. They panicked and ran into the building rather than out of the one he was aiming at.

This was how Opal became a ghostling. She drifted upwards beside him. "Why did you do that?" she asked, the dragon turning to stare at her.

Valkon grinned widely then gently pushed her towards the other ghostlings. Some were meant to be so and others were not.

But she was not to be shooed so easily. She smacked him on the nose. "Why? Tell me why?"

For an instant he stared at her. Someone had finally asked the right question. Perhaps he would give her an answer later.

Touma had moved to a nearby tree to watch Valkon. He grinned watching the ghostlings and their actions. Did they not understand that some of this was for their benefit? Dropping down amongst the creatures who had been sleeping with Valkon, he sat down to pet a rabbit, sliding his mask back off his face. His wings fluttered a moment then folded back.

"Don't worry. The park is one of the safe spots. So is the temple of the goddesses. The living have merited this." he said, his voice whispersoft. "Later he will come play with you. He is the god of creature essences after all. And the ghostlings that will live here after he is finished will not injure you either. But I'm sure he will explain something to those remaining. If the goddesses don't. This is their punishment after all for the arrogance the living have towards them and us. They will not forget again."

He knew noone was nearby enough to hear him except perhaps that silly sailor. He had tossed fireballs at Valkon thinking that a dragon can be hurt by them. Valkon was not a dragon except in shape, but none saw that.

((Sorry, long day))

Crossing her arms, she watched silently as the legend headed towards residential area.
She cocked her head curiously as he seemed to pause before striking down each house, albeit only for a brief moment. It seemed his purpose wasn't to destroy the humans, but maybe warn them? Scare them away?

A few were injured and minimal killed, but it shocked her to see one lone ghostling seem to stand up to him, questioning him, as the dragon only paused to look at her.

Was that it? Was he waiting for someone to ask him why?

Slightly embarrassed and annoyed she hadn't thought of doing so before jumping to conclusions, she bit her lip, wondering now what she should do. She was supposed to be the goddess of wisdom along with war...

She blamed it on her arch-devil ability. It clouded her judgement. Letting her weapons dissipate into air, she began to watch closely, hoping to uncover more hidden motives.

------------------------------------

Sally shook her head, not knowing why the mayor was still trying. Even as she watched his hand pass through wood, did he not know that wasn't a normal thing? That they were no longer among the living?

She winced as the glass vase he was holding fell and broke, and watched as the ghostling threw a tantrum, not knowing whether to sigh or giggle at his reaction.

Determined to make him listen to her, she floated in front of him, and put her arms out.

"Don't you see we're no longer alive? Didn't you see your hand go through that piece of wood? There's no point in worrying about these things! We must hurry and stop the dragon! Who knows if he's still wreaking havoc, killing more innocents? Don't you, as mayor, have anything to say about it?"

She stared at him, eyes pleading.

"Won't you please just listen to me and stop doing this?"

Gya and the other ghostlings watched what Athena was watching and saw the dragon move from house to house.

"But what is his purpose on scaring them?" thought Gya.

The mayor just stared at Sally. "Of course my things mean nothing to you. They are mine and only mean something to me. But you can still help. Find my guards! Find the glass that is not broken. I think I have a pocketwatch somewhere."

Of course the mayor was being obtuse. He was no less in real life. All that meant something to him was himself. And he turned back to digging through while muttering about people not being helpful.

Valkon continued through the residences. There were a few shops in the midst of them and he destroyed those too. People ran frantically for the edge of town. Some moved into the quiet of the park. Others took sanctuary in the large new church they had.

Such an evil creature as a dragon could not possibly get them there, could he?

Gya yelled, "THERE! We can get him at the church! It's a pure place which the likes of evil cannot go!" Gya rushed ahead of them and rushed after the dragon.

Maybelle couldn't get the thought of the animals going to the dragon for shelter as he slept as she went after Gya. In all her life, Maybelle knew that animals are pure souls and are only nasty if someone treated them badly. Could the Dragon be...nice? Could this dragon be helping the animals? Maybelle turned towards the fox lore in her arms.

"Do you think he's evil my friend?" The fox lore just stared at her.

Maybelle nodded at the fox lore. "Only one way to find out."

Without Gya noticing, she used the fox lore's power and raced ahead, to talk to the dragon herself. Call her foolish, but Maybelle needed to know.
