"Ah," she replied, waving her hand slightly to dismiss the thought, "no, I completely understand. But, again, Lucas likely has no memory at all of that time. I've only asked Luke questions about his past, not Lucas. Luke is very forthcoming with information, actually. Or at least, he was with me." And very exact about it, too.

She deftly avoided confirming or disproving Isadora's statement of the event. "Yes, Luke certainly seems like a sort of defense mechanism in many situations, not just for missions and the like. For example, when Lucas and I were trying to figure out the causes of his memory lapses - before I met Luke - I got an idea from a short memory lapse he'd had just a couple minutes before. I moved in his direction quickly, and Luke took over almost instantaneously," she explained, shifting a bit at the memory, "and twisted my arm behind my back. It was.. quite disconcerting, to say the very least, but he didn't make any attempt to hurt me and since, as I say, I've spoken with him and he was very forthcoming with answers to all my questions."

After she had written down a few of the key points, Isadora began to feel a question burning in the corners of her mind. She tried to focus on writing her notes, but the question gnawed at her until she had to stop. She pushed her reading glasses up the bridge of her nose and looked at Claire.

"I see... I ahssume tha' Luhcas is at ease around y', Claihre. I need t' ahsk: what exactleh is your relahtion wit' him? You're obviousleh aquaihnted." Isadora sighed. She doubted that the answer would come very easily, but she had to ask.

"I undehstand if it is somethin' pers'nal t' you, but I ahsk out o' more than curiohsity. It may 'elp me t' compre'end th' situation a bit bettah, an' it may ahlso 'elp me see why an' how his Luhke side is triggered." The doctor felt a bit guilty about asking something that might be so personal to Claire, but she needed to know. It may have a connection with what may have made Lucas's mind create Luke in the first place. It was worth a shot, in any case.

Well, she should have expected it at some point or another, and she took a moment or two to think of a good way to phrase an answer. "You'll forgive me for not giving you all of the details, but suffice it to say we - Lucas and I, that is - happened to find out we had been in a particularly important event and didn't know it at the time. It wasn't particularly pleasant, and Lucas asked me details of it because it occurred when Luke was in control, so Lucas had no memory of it." She sighed slightly, but she really had no intention of explaining to the psychologist of her previous occupation, and by association, of Lucas' previous occupation. "Lucas seems to feel comfortable talking to people quite easily, but Luke seems to be a rather... well, aloof and possibly cold, and seems largely unemotional." Mr. Emotionless Lump. "But, that common ground has no relation to Lucas switching between personalities, I can assure you." And it obviously had nothing to do with the start of it - Claire hadn't been born when Lucas was 13.

If anything, it made it even muddier than before. The curiosity as to what that event was was making Isadora go insane, but she dare not ask it now. Over the years, she had learned [though not always remembered] to space the prying questions apart; disperse them little by little into the conversation so as to not seem too much of a doctor and more of a friend. It was a rather old trick.

As quickly as she could, Isadora jotted down her notes until she realized that she was running out of space on her current page. She turned over her paper and began writing down more notes on the back. "Mhmm... Tha' does 'elp a bit, thahnk you. Piecin' t'getha ev'ry bit I cahn will 'elp, I think. ... Unemohtional..." Isadora sighed, feeling very weary.

"Truthfulleh, I 'ave no clue as t' whether or not tha' is typicahl behavior or not. I do not ohften 'ave cases as difficulht as this. It's so confusing." Isadora felt like she had to confess this to Claire. She was doing the best she could - at least, she thought so - and her patience was slowly running thin. Isadora shook her head. "...I'm sorreh."

Claire shook her head at the apology, seeming unperturbed. "No, no need to be sorry. It is a rather... complicated, confusing situation, I'll admit.." Isadora would likely agree moreso if she were to meet Luke. "I wasn't sure if you'd be able to shed much light on it, but I did want to bring the information to your attention in case you could help, or at the very least so you would have more information about it since Lucas has no idea of it himself."

She paused for a moment, brows furrowing in thought. "And, I think.. At least, I get the feeling.. that Luke doesn't want Lucas to get help. I think Luke wants to take care of it himself, or be in control of the situation.. It sounds silly, but that's the feeling I kept getting," she finished with a shrug. She could tell Isadora all about the possible starting event, about every other detail she'd gleaned from speaking with Luke, but that didn't seem like a good idea at all.

Wit' a little more tihme, an' perhaps anoth'r pot o' coffee, I could see about tryin' t' put this puzzle t'gethah." That was certainly not something that she was looking forward to, but it had to be done. She would persevere, damn it.

Claire's second statement made the doctor's eyes widen and her mind race. "Lihke... Lihke Luhke wants t' be th' prehdominant personah in Luhcas's mind? Oh, grahcious..." Isadora placed her chin in the palm of her hand. "Tha' is... cumbehrsome, an' is dehfiniteleh grahve." Now lost for words, the good doctor glanced over at Basil, who was still sitting patiently at her feet. The Meganium simply turned his head up to face his human and gave her a winning smile. Isadora smirked.

Turning her attention back to Claire, Isadora frowned, her periwinkle eyes filled with concern. "Truleh, this is grahve. I cahn't see how Luhke cahn hope t' ahccomplish somethin' like tha', though. He would 'ave t' shatter Luhcas's suhbconscious in ordah t'..." Isadora trailed off, stopping herself from saying any more. Was that even possible? Could a split persona dominate the original one?

She was still puzzling over it herself when Isadora suddenly went off with it in a completely different direction. "Oh, no, I didn't mean it like that," she explained hurriedly, eyes widening. "No, Luke doesn't want to become the dominant personality. Nothing of the short." An emphatic shake of her head accompanied the statement.

"What I meant was, I don't think Luke wants Lucas to get help for it because.. well, because perhaps he thinks it will interfere with things. Since it seems like he's a sort of defense mechanism, maybe he thinks trying to cure or otherwise treat the disorder could disrupt or affect that protection or defense mechanism. That's what I meant." Whoo, that was close. A scary thought, though, but that didn't seem at all like Luke's intentions. He wanted to protect Lucas, and only came out when necessary, it seemed. Or for training..

...Damn it, people shouldn't confuse her like that! Give her a heart attack, why don't ya?

"...Ah. Okahy, then." Isadora pinched the bridge of her nose, breathed in deeply, then regained her composure and looked at Claire. "Ahll right, I think I'm on trahck. Luhke isn't tryin' t' stahke claihm t' Luhcas's mind; he's onleh tryin' t' protect 'im from anything. Okahy." Oi, that was scary.

"Stihll, though... If tha' is th' case, gettin' past Luhke's bahrrier would prohve t' be an issue should we wish t' give Luhcas mehdical 'elp. It might ev'n dahmage his braihn permanentleh if it rehsists too much." All right - Isadora was back on track.

Claire nodded, relieved that the psychologist with the bright hair understood now. Hopefully there wouldn't be anymore mess-ups or anything of the sort again.

Permanent brain damage? Oh, dear...

She leaned against the couch with a puzzled expression on her face, trying to think about the situation more. She wanted to avoid complications if at all possible. "I think," she began slowly, hesitantly, "that it might be a good idea to just let him be for now and not try to treat it. Perhaps something will happen, or.. I don't know. But I think trying to force some sort of treatment could possibly be detrimental, so it might be best to just.. maybe leave Lucas alone for the time being. If he gets worse or something then that would change things, but right now there aren't any problems," besides the normal ones, of course, "so it might be better to just.. wait." As frustrating as waiting was.

Taking immediate drastic action would do them no good; all it would do is make Lucas harder to reach and make Luke more protective of his mind.

"I think tha' tha' is a vereh wihse dehcision, an' I'm suhre tha' this is th' most ehfficient way of ahpprochin' th' situation." As if to close the matter, Isadora triumphantly clicked her pen closed and smiled. It was a trying and uncertain thing that they were facing, but Isadora would find out all that she could and help Claire in any way possible.

"Nohw then... I wihll be 'ere t' help you if evah you need me. This is no longah just our prohblem. We must fahce it tehnativleh." Isadora shrugged her shoulders. That probably meant that she had to report this to The Powers That Be, but that was something she could definitely put off.

The slender woman nodded, looking quite relieved. It felt good not to be carrying such knowledge alone now, and Isadora was a psychologist - such thoughts were soothing and made her feel better about the whole situation. "I think so too. But.. what do you mean no longer just our problem?" She frowned. Did anyone higher-up need to be told? Hopefully if so they wouldn't require any immediate or direct action. She was still certain that leaving it alone for the time being was the best course of action for the time being, unless circumstances proved otherwise.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Isadora's eyebrows lowered slightly as she attempted to explain her newest theory to Claire. "Wha' I mean is tha' - now tha' we've dehtermin'd th' sihtuation - Luhcas might be consihdered a... a liahbiliteh in th' eyes o' Team Rohcket. Peohple will 'ave quehstions an' want answers. We certaihnleh don't want Luhcas t' be deehmed uselehss an' deahlt wit'." Isadora prayed that things would not come to that, but she was no clairvoyant.

"In aneh case, 'ow about we juhst keep this t' oursehlves f'r th' time beihng. No neehd t' fret." The good doctor gave her patient a kind smile. She would need all of her strength in these coming days. "I thahnk y' vereh much f'r your 'elp, miss Claihre."

Claire's eyebrows rose - she hadn't come here to get Lucas into any sort of trouble for his condition that he didn't even know about, but Isadora's words reassured her, so the young woman smiled as well as she stood up. "Thank you, too. I feel much better about it now. I'll let you know if I learn anything more." That said, the grunt gave the psychologist a friendly parting wave before exiting, Zeus following at her heels.
