It wasn't hard to agree with Riley on Hellma there. He hadn't been in this school for long and he could see that much just from the way the field trip had been. It was a dreadful time, and he wouldn't be surprised if some of the students ended up traumatized from some of the insanity that had occurred there.

"Hopefully, we do. I'd like to be as strong and wise as an elder dragon sometime," he mumbled. Most likely an elder would have been able to take care of that Death Charm with no problems. One could probably even take care of Jingleberry for that matter. At least that's how he felt.

Glancing over towards her, he tried to think of the strange pets he had brought back home here. Quite frankly he hadn't seen them since he arrived. He'd have to check the closet later to make sure they were still in there.

"Huh. I'll have to see them later. I just threw them in the closet when I got here. Hadn't seen them since. I'm sure whatever they are now, it's an improvement to what they were. Too JOYful those things were."

I know. I want my time here to be as productive as possible. So far that's looking like a complete failure. She chuckled darkly, before turning her head to look at him.

Riley knew a lot about dragons. The elder brain has a vast store of knowledge on them. Yet, she felt there might be something left to learn - and maybe, just maybe, she was looking for an excuse to just sit and talk with him. This was nice. It was comfortable. Comfort, nowadays, was a rarity - and especially ironic to find it here, laying amidst a pile of hard, cold treasure.

Tell me about your kind, Jericho. What's it like, wherever you call home?

Tilting his head at the question, Jericho thought about what to say for a moment or so.

"It's pretty mountainous. My parents are currently residing in a pretty big cave system inside one of the range. One of the mountains is an almost dead volcano, which is probably what drew them to that place. The peaks get a little chilly and get some snow, but we don't generally go up there. The area around is mostly forest," he explained, recalling what his home was like, "Lots of wildlife so hunting usually isn't an issue."

At the mention of hunting, he suddenly remembered that the last thing he ate was a reindeer burrito. The dragon was getting rather hungry now... He was going to need to grab some food pretty soon.

"Then again we can digest just about anything so I guess it wouldn't be an issue in the first place, but vegetation just tastes horrible," he sneered before looking towards her. He knew a few things of Illithids from the stories his parents had told, but there wasn't a great deal, "What about you?"

There was nothing surprising about Jericho's home - in fact it sounded exactly as it should. Nevertheless, her eyes crinkled in lieu of a smile as she listened, clearly enjoying it. That sounds lovely.

At his question, however, she hesitated. She didn't share her personal information with anyone, and the only person who even knew the bit of her home life she did share, was Malodore. She looked mildly uncomfortable, but knew that she only had herself to blame. She set herself up for this when she asked him about his home life.. she should have expected a return query. She only hoped that that had not been subconsciously her reasoning all along.

Our home is a wasteland, at the moment. Your hunting grounds sound delightful, to be quite honest. We have to send hunters to travel far for meals, at times. They were glad to be rid of me. She didn't look very upset, at this fact.

After we were banished from the human world, our options were very limited. Normally my hive doesn't like to separate, but lately.. she shrugged. Well, it's the nature of species to adapt to their necessity. She looked for a way out of the topic, and lifted herself slightly to look at the lava pool with curious eyes.

Do you actually go into that, when you're in your dragon form? Or is it just there for warmth?

Propping himself up a bit as Riley explained her home life, Jericho couldn't help but frown. No wonder she seemed a little uncomfortable at first there. It had to be rough to be living in such a place and he had trouble imagining what it was like, especially since Mindflayers couldn't exactly eat just about anything around them like a dragon could if they absolutely had to.

Before he could really comment on anything of the matter though, she had switched gears. Taking the hint that she might not have wanted to dwell on that, he glanced over at the pool.

"I do sometimes. It does pretty well to get my scales clean as you might guess," he said with a grin.

Riley looked back at him with an appreciative chuckle. Can I see? She could feel the heat of the lava pool emanating at her from here - how could he actually be inside of that? It would be an interesting sight, even if it meant she could not join in. Roasted mindflayer? No calamari for me thanks, I'm full.

Of course, she was also asking him to shift in front of her - but she'd seen it happen multiple times when they were at Christmastown. It wouldn't be anything new. Though watching him doing it on purpose might be fun.

I'd try it myself, but.. well. I thoroughly enjoy being alive. She shrugged.

"Yeah... I wouldn't advise going in there," he agreed before getting up. Jericho went on to take a few steps away just to make sure he had room before removing his school pin. Within moments of it being off of him, his body began to change. As he grew larger, skin turned to scale and nails to claws. His head and neck elongated and a tail sprouted from behind. A set of spines and frills grew alongside his back as well.

Once the transformation was complete, he looked down towards Riley with a toothy draconic grin.

"Feels good to have that under control again," he mused while looking over his claws briefly before making his way over towards the pool. As if it was nothing, he went on and stood in it. The lava pool wasn't that big for him to really move around much in it, but he could at least lay in it sort of.

Riley had a fair bit of experience with humanoid Jericho, and dragon Jericho. She only realized, however, that even though she'd been with him the multitude of times he'd transformed, she had never actually -watched- it happen. Seeing the change with her own eyes for the first time was intriguing, and she pushed herself off the treasure to watch more carefully. When it was done, she looked up at her dragon, a surge of pride welling within her. She had to admit it, he was big. And as far as she was concerned, he was hers.

Her hands clenched into the golden coins victoriously, and if she could smile, there would be a wide, wicked one across her face.

I've forgotten what a beautiful beast you are. She commented in approval, nodding faintly. Yes, it must be nice to be able to do that on your own terms again.

She got up from the treasure bed as he sunk into the lava, and took a few steps towards it - but didn't get far. The heat emanating from the pool was very hindering, and she put her hand above her eyes as though it would help. That's impressive. I can't believe you're just.. standing in lava. As if it were nothing. Which, of course, it is - to you. She added on with a chuckle.

There was a low approving rumble coming from Jericho's throat as he heard the compliment from Riley. He was a red of course, which to him was the best of all the chromatics. Then again, he may be a little biased there, but it didn't matter a whole lot.

"It's kind of like sitting in a hot tub," he chuckled, "Though it's too bad I can't come into this in my humanoid form. I can't stay in the pool for too long though."

Lingering there a little longer, he soon climbed back out of the lava pool, being careful to not let too much of it drip out onto the floor. It didn't take too long for him to 'dry' off, but once he did, he made his way over towards Riley and lowered his head some so they'd be a little more at eye-level to one another.

"My scales in my true form do a lot to protect me. At least from some damage and heat to an extent. Lava resistant or not I don't think I could have taken a blast from that Death Charm."

Riley's head arched upward as Jericho lumbered towards her, feeling a comfortable familiarity while looking into those big dragon eyes. She reached out and hesitantly touched his skin, which was still heated from the lava. Her finger barely grazed the surface before she pulled back, and laughed.

No, I suppose not. I'm glad you didn't have to, though. It was a.. highly unpleasant experience. She tested the surface of his muzzle once more, and found it had cooled down enough to touch. Her hand patted down the side, brushing the length of it fondly.

I wonder, once you've had time to settle in and feel more rested.. perhaps we could go for a ride? Am I still allowed to ride you?

Jericho couldn't imagine that it was a pleasant experience to be incinerated in nearly an instant. Though, he's done it to a few small creatures himself... like mice. It generally was on accident one way or another seeing how reducing something to ashes really didn't do much for him aside from venting out frustration.

He didn't mind the petting here; it was comforting to some extent. Though he wouldn't want some random person walking up to him and touching him for the hell of it. Thinking along those lines, he contemplated on her question, though it didn't take him long to come up with an answer.

"That sounds good to me. There aren't many people I let on my back outside of necessity. In fact.. right now you're probably the only one," he replied before his stomach gave a fierce growl, "Urg..."

Riley gave a start as she heard the bellowed growl coming from his stomach, and she pulled her hand away. You're hungry. You probably haven't eaten this entire time, have you? You poor thing. She tapped her finger against her chin thoughtfully. Do you need to hunt? Or do you have meals waiting for you here, somewhere?

"The last thing I had was a reindeer burrito from Christmas Town," he answered a little flatly while looking towards the door, "As nice as hunting sounds, heading to the cafeteria will do."

The food here wasn't as good of course but it was easier to access. It also did the job of quelling hunger.

"Ah... have you eaten at all today?" Jericho asked the Mindflayer. If not they could probably grab lunch.. or dinner (he had no clue what time of day it was right now) together.

The cafeteria.. Riley scrunched her face up in disappointment. I haven't yet been to the cafeteria, I doubt they have much for me. Though.. I do remember Malodore saying something interesting about their jolly meals. Okay, I'm willing to try it.

She backed away slightly, her words filtered with soft amusement as she looked from the door to the dragon, and back again.

I suppose you'll need to change back, to get there. She sighed, and reached out one last time to stroke under his muzzle affectionately. Such a pity. I do so like this form of yours.

Nodding to her at the mention of having to change back, Jericho looked towards the door. Even if he was allowed to roam the halls in this form there was simply no way he could fit comfortably. Most likely he would end up breaking something or a lot of things.

"The jolly meals tend to ah... come to life. So I guess it's similar to hunting in that respect. Not sure if they grow brains when this happens though," he mused before looking for where he had placed his pin, "And yeah I prefer my true form as well. But.. I do have to admit that the humanoid one is more convenient at times... being considerably smaller and all."

Putting the pin back on, his body shifted back to his other form. Once the transformation was completed, he stood up straight and stretched out.

"Ready?" he asked her while extending a hand so they could head out.
