He nodded, setting his elbows on his knees. It was a bit easier for him to relax and loosen up once he'd been talking for a while, and the plastic chairs scattered around weren't exactly good for his back. Laughing at the question, he thought about it for a second, trying to recall a time when Isa had done anything like that. Unable to think of one, he shrugged, "She seems a bit too smart for that. At least, she hasn't done anything like it yet. And Ting is a great mother, she loves Isa more than anything. She just, has her moments."
Giggling insanely, Isa dropped flat on her back with her arms outstretched. She was panting through her giggles, flipping her ears back and forth happily. Had she not been on her back, her tail would have been wagging back and forth as well, but she didn't have very good control of the appendage yet. Her ears would do. Having inhaled so much air in her fit of giggles and her tumbling, it wasn't surprising that her giggles were stopped by a hiccup. She blinked at the strange spasm, seeming even more confused when it happened again. Pulling herself to a sit, she tipped one ear down and looking questioningly at Ari, hiccuping again.

Elysia tipped back in the chair a bit, watching the kids play on the carpet in front of them. "Well, I'm sure she's a great mother. Everyone has their moments, trust me. There have been more than a few embarassing moments since I've been a mom." She gave him a sympathetic look. She knew that motherhood was stressful.
"Ari's been pretty good...He's not very rowdy at all," she said, looking over at the pair playing. "But look at him now! He's so excited to be around other kids closer to his age. Most of my kids are older...or mentally older in one case..."
Ari jumped as he heard Isa's first hiccup. He'd never had hiccups before, and he couldn't imagine why the little girl was making such odd noises. He cocked his head to the left, giving her a curious look. "Isa wha?" he asked, moving closer to her, wanting to make sure that she was okay. One minute, she'd looked so happy, the next, so confused. "I 'unno Isa..."

Andreas watched curiously as Isa's expression dropped, but laughed a bit when he realized it was just hiccups. Distracted, right. Attention. "He seems like a real sweetheart," he said, showing a smile. It was good for Isa to meet someone around her own age as well, instead of just people that acted like children. Himself included. Straightening up, he thought about it, "Isa is... She's a strange little one. I don't think she's ever cried once since she was born, except maybe when she was a few days old and hungry, and a bit when Adani left. But never just to cry."
Isa held her breath, puffing her cheeks up like a squirrel. She had seen her mother do it before, though she didn't remember whether or not it had to do with these little puffs. When she opened her mouth and let out to breathe, she smiled, realizing then had stopped. Then, when she thought they weren't coming back, she started to push herself to her feet. As another hiccup shook her, she fell back down on her butt, wrinkling her nose up curiously, "Aaah?"

Elysia just smiled, watching the babies react to Isa's hiccups. She couldn't remember what it was like to hiccup for the first time, and she was quite enjoying their exploration of the sound. "She's only cried once? That's amazing. Ari's been pretty quiet, but he's vocal when he wants things, that's for sure," she said with a laugh. "He makes sure he gets his way..."
"I unno Isa," Ari mumbled, looking at her again as she puffed up her cheeks. He was reaching out to 'pop' the squirreley cheeks between two palms when she suddenly stood up, and then plopped right back down. "Awww, me wanna poosh!" he said, imitating the sound that he imagined would have come out of her mouth had he been able to squish her cheeks back to their normal positions.
His pairs of headwings fluttered, showing the occasional bit of agitation from the breeze coming through the window, and he reached up to tame them, petting them down some.

Andreas nodded, "We lucked out on that one I guess." With a sigh, he leaned back against the chair and closed his eyes, "I was like that as a kid, still am sometimes. Ting always laughs when I throw a 'fit'. She says my face turns red, must be a sight to see." The man had never had much of a sense for play time and running around and all of that, so this whole 'children need socialization' thing was new to him.
"Kay," she cooed, puffing her cheeks back out so he could poosh them. Maybe that would help these funny things. It was hard for her to try not to hiccup with them out like that. Her ears were perked up as high as she could put them now, twitching ever so often in anticipation of what he was going to do.

"I'll bet it is! To see a grown man throw a fit would surely be amusing..." She couldn't help but laugh. Elysia had always been a quiet kid, but her sister hadn't been as easy. She was bit on temper tantrums. "Yeah, my younger sister had quite a temper," she said, nodding.
"Okies Isa!" Ari prepared himself, scooching a bit closer to her, hands spread apart. He gave her a big smile, and this left pair of headwings twitched with excitement. Slowly, he moved his hands so that one was on each side of her face. "Readdeee?" he asked, wanting to make sure she was prepared.

He blushed a bit, the color showing easily on his pale skin, "I guess so." Even though he was a bit embarassed that he still threw fits sometimes, he still had a bit of a joking tone in his voice. After all, what would be the use of getting upset over something he wasn't very good at changing. And his fits weren't that bad after all, so oh well.
Isa nodded, looking a bit silly with her cheeks all puffed out and turning a bit blue. Her rebellious hair was starting to fall out of its clips now and tickled at her cheeks, but with a little effort she kept from bursting out laughing and ruining his game. This was fun, she didn't want to make him sad.

Elysia suddenly felt very bad. "Oh my gosh, I'm sorry! I hope I haven't been too rude...Gosh, I shouldn't have said that," Elysia blurted out, suddenly realizing that she'd embarassed poor Andreas. She decided to change the subject. "Wow, they're getting along so wonderfully. Ari hasn't met too many other kids, so this has been really nice," she said, turning to look at the kids, who seemed to be enjoying themselves.
When he was sure that she was prepared, he brought both of his hands together, in a clap--with Isa's face getting right in the way. The air wooshed out of her mouth and into Ari's joyful face. "Better!?" he asked, clearly highly amused by Isa's funny face and the noise that had erupted from her. He couldn't help but wonder if it had gotten rid of the hiccups.

Andreas nodded, glad for the change of subject. He considered himself a fairly proud man after all, so his own flaws were a touchy issue. "No worries," he mumbled, brushing invisible dust off his suit jacket. Looking toward Ari And Isa, he couldn't help but smile, "It is nice, isn't it? Isa's got her mother to play with, but kids always need friends, peers."
Isa burst into a loud series of screechie giggles, eventually laughing so hard that she snorted and nearly ran out of air. She tended to get a bit carried away, but sometimes that was a good thing. Her hiccups seemed to have gone away, so she slowly toned down her giggles and seemed lighter, happier. "Betta!" She copied, leaning forward to set her hands firmly on the carpet for support.

"Definitely," she agreed, looking over at the babies. "I just wish I got Ari out more often. I'm so busy with everything that it's hard to get out for playdates. I'm glad some of them are growing up and moving out," she said with a laugh. "Maybe once things settle down, he can meet more kids from around here."
Ari burst into giggles as she did, laughing so hard that he fell backward on his back, gasping for breath. After a quick recovery, he sat back up slow to face Isa, holding his now aching stomach. She was waiting there to greet him.
"Good!" he exclaimed, giving her a pat on the hand. "I's gwad!"

"I can't imagine what I would do if Isa wasn't an only child." He smiled, "Her pets are bad enough, she loves rabbits. And Ting's starting to introduce her to ferrets." He looked down at his watch, trying to get a bearing on the time. Ting was supposed to be out at a cooking class for about half an hour still, then they would have to leave to go pick her up. Sticking that in his mind, he chimed up, "I came from a big family. Nine brothers and six sisters. I don't know how my mother managed to keep everything from being completely chaotic."
"Gwad!" She shouted, turning to look up at her father, then toward the woman the boy had walked in with. She didn't look like her mommy, but then again the boy didn't look like her. Curiously, she pointed to Ari then to the woman, "Momee?"

"Rabbits? Awww, that's cute," Elysia said, giving Isa a glance. "Well, she'll certainly have a zoo to follow her around from the sound of it," she said with a smile. "Ari hasn't really caught onto pets yet...He's become my artistic child instead."
"WOW, nine brothers and six sisters?! How did your mom and dad handle all that?? I mean, I thought I had a lot of kids, but I'd have to say, your family takes the cake! It's good that your family life wasn't totally full of chaos," she said with a nod.
Surprisingly, as if all children understood each other, Ari nodded. "Yep Isa, das Momee!" he exclaimed, pointing toward Elysia, who now had all eyes on the children. "Dat 'chur Daddy? I's got two Momees!"

Andreas turned his gaze toward them at the mention of chaos, just to make sure they were still getting along. Without looking back, he sat up straighter and nodded, "We'll have a zoo alright, I guess we'll have to move out of the apartment when she takes to horses or something like that." Isa was an outgoing child, and for some reason she wasn't skittish around animals, no matter their size, even for a second. "I'm afraid to give Isa crayons or markers or anything like that," he explained, "But she seems to like listening to stories instead." He paused, "Something weird though, she likes counting her jelly beans. I think she likes math." Laughing a bit, he shrugged, "I don't even like math. Guess she'll just be an odd kid."
Isa nodded happily, setting her hands firmly on the carpet in front of her. "Yep, Daddy!" Upon saying it, she gave herself a big hug, trying to say that she loved her daddy very much. When something hit her, she dropped one ear, peering at him curiously, "Two mommies? Estri good?"

Elysia laughed. "Yeah, you may have to start living in a barn if she starts to like larger animals. I can't see you living in an apartment with a horse, that's for sure!" There were a lot of pets around Elysia's house too, but Ari hadn't taken a special interest in any of them...He was still quite attached to his unicorn plushie, but that was about the only animal that captivated his attention.
"Ari likes stories too...Which makes me wonder if they'll ever actually read a book while we're here," she said, motioning toward the front of the room where the chair for the reader sat empty still. "Math is a good thing to like," Elysia continued. "I was pretty good at math for a long time...but then came the dreaded calculus, and my brain turned off."
"Das Momee Siz! I wive wit her...and I's wuv her dis much!" he exclaimed, spreading his arms as far apart as they could go. "Momee CeeCee wives wit Mia, my sissy. I's don't see 'dem much," he said, a slightly sad look on his face. It was true though...Ari hadn't seen this other mother for a long time now...Even Elysia had started wondering what had become of Caroline.

He laughed a bit, glancing up toward the chair, "They were reading them earlier, Curious George and things like that. No one really seemed to be listening." Shrugging, he smiled, "I think they went to find something more interesting. I just hope it won't be a My Little Pony story, I hear enough of those at home. Between that and watching the plays she puts on with her Barbies I don't think I've done anything masculine in months."
"I don' got no sissys," Isa sighed, letting her ears droop down. She loved her parents, really she did, but she didn't like being an only child very much. Her mother Ting had told her that she couldn't have a baby of her own, and that's why she had gotten Isa from the other lady, but she still was hopeful for a sibling. "Maybe I get one," she said with a grin, wagging her tail happily.
