Of course it's possible, but, well... Harry's not exactly good at catching on to those kinds of things. Maybe someone could say something to make him think of it, but not on his own.

omg...that is such a gd idea! i think-i know its a stupid idea-that there is a slight possibility of the map being a horcrux, because wormtail helped make it, and it was in filch's office for years... i used to think the map was just on automatic from when all the mauraders hated snape, but then i remebered the bit about how they couldnt believe he was a professor at hogwarts...

The thing about this idea is (and we HP fans often forget this) that Jo doesn't see the series the way we do. She's actually said, "I'd never thought of that." So some of the amazing ideas we come up with, such as this, she's not gonna think of because she's got in her mind the way everything is going to go.
However, we DON'T. So we're always speculating, always guessing, and always coming up with out-of-the-box theories...Some of which are amazingly good.
Jo's had this series planned for some 18 years, I'm guessing...right around, anyway. She probably won't think of it. The best bet is to write a fanfiction, and hope that other people like your ideas...
I honestly don't have much faith in Jo right now...There's so many possibilities, and she hasn't taken advantage of any of them...as far as I know, anyway. I mean, she can't even understand us Snape fans...
It would be awesome, cause I'd love to see more of the Marauders. I'm a huge Marauders fangirl...But, I just don't see it happening. Not in canon anyway.

Dude thats a totally awesome idea... huh... lol so i guess harry needs to tap it with his wand and demand they telk to him... but then maybe they just jinxed it specifically to do that sort of thing, i mean, snape said his name, and he was being nosey, maybe lupin's excuse for what it was is actually the truth for people who dont know how to use it... i mean he's one of the guys who helped make it...

Not in canon anyway. and thats a really good point, cuz its the same way with alot of writers. i know that i wrote a story for an assignment in my english class freshman year, and when my friend, who is a huge lover of my writing, almost like some people with harry potter with the exception that my stories aren't in print, asked if something about my character was symbolic of something else in the story, and i was like... wow... never thought of that.

I do agree with the other's who say that this theory may be looking too much into the books, But I also agree that there's going to be something special about the portraits.
Phinneaus Nigellus and that other woman who helped out when Mr. Weasly was attacked were able to consciously perform actions, it wasn't just something they were "magicked' to do. It's my opinion that perhaps Dumbledore will have a greater roll to play in the last book as a portrait (thus the reason Jo said that he was still giving her problems)
ps. sorry to all the "Dumbledore's still alive" people out there...

It could make for an intresting fanfiction, but I don't think it'll come to play in later books.
