"It'll take longer than seven seconds," he reassured her. Especially if she figured in the time it would take to get him out of bed. He raised an eyebrow at the pitch change.

"That's...handy. Can you sound like anyone?"
PostPosted: Sat Jan 15, 2011 1:42 pm

Hm. Well that's okay. That just means I get more time with you. She shrugged. But in all honesty, I do think you should consider it sometime. Maybe not in the morning, but, at some point. I'd go running with you. I promise you it feels amazing. She almost wanted to go out running right now, just thinking about it. Your adrenaline pumps through your body, and everything feels warm and alive. She sighed happily at the thought.

Turning slightly so that she was looking at him right side up, her eyes slit mischievously. Yes. She said, in Barth's voice. Why? Who do you want me to sound like?

"I'll err, take a rain check on the running." Even talking about it gave him an entirely different reaction. Something akin to dread.

"...What about Hellma?" he asked, off-hand. He returned the look, but his expression was calculative. There was a lot of potential, he thought. For being able to sound like anyone. There wasn't that much of a difference between a thought sound and a heard sound, the information was processed the same way.

Riley made a face of disgust, but her next thoughts were emitted in the dreaded headmistresses voice. I am so terrible, look at me, throwing students into danger for my own personal gains, bwahahahahaha! She doubted the headmistress would laugh like that, but it was fun to make her sound like it.

She thought she might have caught a hint of why Barth was asking her these questions, but she was not as sure that hearing someone's voice in your head could be mistaken for hearing them out loud. She didn't see the potential the way he did.

"Ugh, that's her alright." He decided it would probably be better not to press Hellma jokes. Even if they were out of the public eye.

Hellma's wrath was a vague myth for some, but he'd experienced it first-hand. It was the reason he'd gotten on the train.

Then, curiously, he asked, "What does Christof sound like? I've only heard the muffled version."

Riley paused for a beat of silence, before she responded -in Christof's soft, accented tenor. He's actually a very intelligent conversationalist when not distracted. It's a pity he can't speak out loud more often, I tend to think it would help his social skills immensely if he could communicate with others. She sounded just a touch protective of the igor, but nothing alarming.

I'm certainly glad I have the ability to overcome my handicap. She spoke now, in her own voice, and tapped her mouthless face with one finger. Notecards are.. not my thing.

"We communicated mostly via charades. For the play," Barth said.

He wasn't sure what he'd expected Christof to sound like. He knew Christof was young, but...maybe something a bit more grumbly and growly. Christof did a lot of glowering, whenever he was around.

"He might hit people less," Barth acquiesced.

Riley lowered her head back down onto the armrest, and closed her eyes. Charades. Also not my cup of tea. I'll take telepathic communication anyday, thanks.

Her eyes opened for a moment as she thought about what Barth said, and her eyebrow curved lightly upward. Does he hit you often? I've never actually seen him hit anything.. The idea of Christof being violent towards someone was foreign to Riley, for now. She wouldn't count wanting to cut off Sin's legs. That wasn't violence.. that was just plain smart.

"Hit, kick, drag, throw objects," Barth listed lamely. "I just assumed he had communication issues. You know, verbally. And preferred to err, communicate physically."

Either that or Barth was particularly good at inspiring frustration. He had gotten dragged around a lot on the train.

"You don't have that problem, obviously. I've been hoping he could try beating me at video games instead."

Riley looked mildly surprised, and perhaps a little irritated, as Barth went on. Is that so.. that doesn't sound like Christof at all.. I almost feel like we're speaking of a completely different Igor. Her face contorted as her thoughts were troubled, and she sat in a moment of silence as she considered the possibility that Christof was hiding a dangerous side to him. Her biggest worry was the reasoning - why would he hide a tendency for violence, from her?

It was a question that begged her attention, but something else caught it instead.

Video games? She repeated, her thoughts wrapped in curiosity. I've never played a video game.

"Never?" Barth asked, stretching to reach a set of controllers that had been left on the floor. He scooted one her way, then took the other one.

The enormous HD skellyvision set in front of them roared to life, showcasing a skeletal dragon and the words UNDEAD KOMBAT, before switching to a character select screen.

"Pick your guy...or ghoul. You use the toggle there."

PostPosted: Sun Jan 23, 2011 10:07 pm

Riley looked down at the controller as it slid her way, and picked it up. She held it upside down, twisting it slightly to try and figure out what it controlled, before the brightness of the screen caught her eye. She stared at the character selection screen with a slight sense of wonder, before assessing what she was meant to do.

When he pointed out the toggle, she turned the controller so that her hands slid over the holds and played with the toggle a bit. It was then just a matter of trying to figure out which character she wanted to choose.

Undead Kombat, the screen had said. Is this a game of fighting? She asked, as she passed from one player to another. There were ghouls and boils of all shapes and sizes - and her eyes narrowed as she began critically dissecting her choices.

Size, weight proportion, speed, muscle tone.. all of these things came into effect when choosing a character, even though she didn't realize that wasn't exactly how it worked. In the end, she chose the absolute medium - a spiky haired man in a white ninja suit, with a bandana around his head. He looked to be a perfect blend of quick and toned, in her opinion.

I choose him. She announced to the screen, as if saying so would make the selection for her.

"Got it in one. Fighting game."

He watched her pick through the fighters, waiting for questions.

"...You have to push the okay button," he said, demonstrating. He highlighted another guy in a ninja suit. "Doesn't respond to voice commands. Or err, thought commands."

Video games, on a scale of 1 to Difficult on the effort-o-meter, were probably in the negatives. Which is why Barth liked them so much. He was not keen on the winning so much as he was on the time-wasting. Although he might be getting other things accomplished throughout the day, videogames was something he knew he could pour time into to master skills that would never have other uses.

It helped to assuage his species-related guilt over occasionally attending classes and raiding Christmas Town.

Riley watched him press down on one of the buttons of the controller, and mimicked his behavior. She then realized that the controller's buttons were all marked, and began attempting to decipher their meaning using logic and common sense. She glared at the controller with determination.

The game startled her as it suddenly burst with sound, and she looked up to find the screen had changed. There was her character, bouncing to the right. As the game loaded, she found she could press some of the buttons and her character would kick, or punch. Simple enough.

ROUND 1: FIGHT

The game practically shouted at her, and then the text disappeared.

Do we.. fight now? She pressed a few of the buttons, before edging her character closer to his. Most of all, she watched him - her eyes flickered from the screen, to Barth's hands, watching carefully.

As Riley's character inched closer to Barth's, his ninja grunted HAH! and launched a punch. As the characters collided, worrying amounts of pixelated blood spewed onto the ground, then disappeared.

"See," he said, as another spray of blood launched sky-ward. "Your HP is up there. When the bar turns all the way red, your guy dies."

He was pressing the buttons in combination with the directional toggle, albeit not very quickly.
