"You don't need to apologize," he assured, withdrawing the same as she. No need to make her uncomfortable, especially since it seemed the sudden contact had been unexpected. He couldn't regret it, though, if it brought her even a shred of solace. Lucas shook his head slightly when she apologized again, but then the subject was changed, mildly surprising. That was quite the jump. Not that he minded; he could appreciate an overwhelming need to talk about something else. The new topic, however, was a difficult one for the man to approach. That didn't mean he wouldn't try.
"Ah, well... To be honest, I don't really remember it all that well." He rubbed at his neck abashedly. "I tend to be really forgetful or something..." An awkward grin accented his words.

Although she didn't say it, the look on her face spoke for her. She couldn't help but feel guilty for abbrupty hugging him. After that she put an akward space between them, with her arms still in a makeshift hug. As if that space could erase the embarrassment.
"You don't remeber?" That was a bit odd. "Did you lose your memory? Like you have amneisia?" It was a streach but anything to keep the conversation going. Sure, she had whole chuncks of childhood memories that seemed to be hard to recall, but that was territory she did not dare to venture into.

"Ah, well, not really amnesia, no... More like lapses in memory. It happens all the time, really." He shoved his hands into his pockets, readjusting his posture slightly. "I can't remember any mission I've ever been on, actually, though I've been on a few..." If 'a few' meant 'possibly three digits' worth. He'd been on enough missions - and succeeded, apparently - to warrant his promotion to elite agent, after all. His distinctly awkward grin remained in place. "It's a little annoying sometimes, but I'm used to it, I guess."

Cal tried to switch into counseling mode, if she ever had one to begin with. The young agent adjusted herself to sitting on the kitchen counter, eyes a bit watery and throat a little sore, but the tears weren't coming down in buckets anymore. "Do you think it happened for a reason?" She looked up. "The lapses in memory, that is..." She bit her lip, "I know I've done that..." It was as if she was talking more to herself than Lucas. She swung her legs in idle thought as she mulled over her own "memory lapses." A term that made her laugh when applied to herself, but intrigued her with Lucas.

As she moved to seat herself, Lucas moved towards the materials spread on the counter and began combining them as he remembered. He'd said he was going to make cookies, and so he was going to make cookies.
"Mm, I don't know. It seems pretty random, actually. Can't remember a single mission I've been on, but sometimes I miss conversations too." He gave the combined ingredients an idle stir. "Sometimes I'll just be talking to people normally, and then suddenly they're talking about something else or I'm somewhere else..." He noticed how she referenced herself but chose not to press it for the time later. If it needed to come up, it would be brought up.

Cal scooted over to watch Lucas mix the ingredients mildly taking in what he was mixing into the batch. It all looked right, but her mind wasn't focused on the sweet treats, even though her stomach would beg to differ. She had her mind on her own vague memories and Lucas' lapses in memory. It was all very strange, those kinds of thing don't happen to every Mary-Sue you meet on the street. But Team Rocket was filled with nut cases and psychos.
The man's words struck a deep cord in Cal's heart. It almost made the tears flood back, but she held strong. "You wouldn't forget me, would you?" Although she tried to play it off as cute and innocent, her voice gave a subtle quiver. She placed a smile on her lips, "Your condition is strange." Though her smile turned into a slight frown. "Maybe some more chocolate chips?" She slid an extra bag over to him.

"I don't think so, no," he responded with a slight laugh. It seemed like an odd concern coming from a girl he had just met a few moments earlier, but he shrugged it off. "Usually when I forget things, it's like I wasn't even there. But I know I'm here now, so..." He stopped himself with a contemplative frown. "I guess that's kind of how forgetting works, though..." It wasn't really forgetting if he remembered he forgot, after all.
He gave a half-hearted grin at her evaluation. He knew it was weird, but what could be done about it? He'd been visiting Isadora in an attempt to nail down the specifics, but it was difficult work when the problem itself was so vague. His grin became more genuine at the bag of chocolate chips pushed towards him, though, and he complied, tearing the package open and adding its contents to the batter.

Cal rubbed the back of her head, sliding from the counter with a slight hop. She heated the oven to the appropriate degree so that they wouldn't have to wait long for it to be ready when they were done. "To forget..." Cal watched as he poured in the chocolate chips, "...Can be troublesome."
To forget, causes... Regret. She sighed plunging deeper in thought. And forgetting has side-effects. Cal could never truly forget. She doubted that the man standing next to her was any different. Her side-effect was the increasing nightmares that plagued her. Something that she had not mentioned to many. She dried a watery eye, looking up at Lucas. "Do you suppose it's ready now?" She was tempted to dip a finger in the dough to get her mind of her worries.
