She blinked a few times, She hadn't had the chance to see what it was that make him react in such a way. Peering from behind him, she saw the now closer log as it got close enough to recognize and burst out with laughter. "Is this some game? It's a log Roman.. Nice game but I haven't played damsel in distress sin my time as a foal." her laughter faded to quiet giggles as she stepped out from behind him to look at the water once more. It's murky depths still help shadowy shapes of swimming things below them. Were these the fabled water soquili? Had they found them? As she put her nose closer to get a better look, a rather large tail fin slapped the water beside her splashing her face. Shaking her head she lowered her face once more, a few locks of her hair resting on the surface. Just as she was about to give up however, a large wide catfish head broke the surface of the water and snapped at her hair causing her to trip over herself in her attempt to scramble backwards with a yelp of surprise. Her look was shear shock as she stared out at the water while now sitting on her rump.

His posture relaxed as he too noticed it had merely been a log approaching. A game? With a smirk he turned toward her. “Oh really? What do you call being rescued from that cat?” With this he gestured to the scab on her rear. “You certainly haven’t been playing the warrior goddess game from what I can tell.” He shook his head and snorted, attempting to relieve himself of his embarrassment. As the log finally came within reach he turned about and gave it a swift kick. Just as he was turning to face her and comment some more on his actions he watched her stumble backwards. Laughter erupted freely from his chest as he gazed at the spectacle. Here he had been, playing all cool and now she was the one making a fool of herself.
“Mighty warrioress, may I inquire as to what battle pose you would call that?” Now the shoe was on the other hoof and he pranced up to her side. “Are you crouching for some sort of attack?” He could have thanked the fish for helping him out ever so slightly. Now she was on the same level as he had been, embarrassed and shocked. With a final chuckle he turned toward the water and watched as shapes glided back and forth beneath the surface. These were not water bound soquili, they were merely fish. Fish who were eager to splash and jump at anyone who drew to close.

Grinning wide she let out a chuckle of her own. "It's called crouching fawn." And with that she nodded and stood up. It had been a joke rather than a come back of any sort. She hadn't meant to hurt his pride, only to offer him a way to save face. With a shrug, she shook off her coat and looked back at the water. "I don't think That's what we were looking for... Maybe it was all just a hoax? Maybe they just don't exist and you're right??"

He couldn’t help but to smile and chuckle once she placed a name on the ‘stance’ she had taken. “A master in combat are you? I suppose you will have to show me more of your moves.” He enjoyed talking to her, taking it easy, not worrying about letting others down. He watched her as she once again turned her sights upon the murky waters. With a swish of his tail he walked up beside her and joined her in searching for proof of the legends. When she spoke of it being a hoax he looked up from the water to her face. Was she disappointed? He couldn’t tell. Rather than chance it he huffed out a breath and looked to the side. “I am not always correct.” He mumbled. The effort it took for him to say such a thing could have been classified as exhausting. Without a moment in between for her to respond he spoke again, a renewed resolve in his voice. “Perhaps we just aren’t looking hard enough.” He determined.
With a little grin he began wading into the water until it lapped at his knees. With a sigh and a roll of his blue eyes he tossed his head to move the bangs from his face and submerged his head in the water. Bubbles billowed from his nostrils as his eyes tried to identify the dark shapes lurking about in the lake. Before long he lifted his head, his bangs gluing to his face so he could no longer see. “Well, I didn’t see anything but maybe you would have better luck?” With that he shook his head to rid himself of the water running down his nose. His forelock remained glued to his face but luckily they had once again left one eye free for him to look behind him at Bri. “Why don’t you give it a try Primrose?” He wanted her to find something, wanted them to be able to look back on it and say they had proven the stories right.

Blinking a few times she figured she might as well give it a try. What would it hurt, right? Wading out into the water, she stopped a few feet to the side of him before taking a deep breath and dunking her head under to look for anything. Al she could see was dim murky light, shadowed shaped of what she thought to be fish and the bubbles escaping from her nose before her mane drifted into her vision. And eruption of bubbles came from the water's surface above her head before her head came from the water. "Just more fish..." She said, her hair a wet mop clinging to her and covering her eyes with the roses slightly drooping under the weight of the water.

After she dunked her head into the water he gave his head one last shake to get rid of more water that was causing his hair to be even more irritating than usual. He watched with a soft smile as bubbles came to the surface as she exhaled underwater. He remembered one time, when he was still a foal, when he had ducked his head underwater to cool himself and his sister laughed at him. He took it as something to be frustrated at, she was laughing at him after all right? In reality she had been laughing at the bubbles coming from his nose, they had entertained her. With a sigh he looked up to the sky, he hoped that wherever she was she could forgive him. His attentions were brought back down to the water when Bri’s head popped up. He laughed when her hair did the same thing his had, reaching out with his nose he attempted to help her out by brushing it aside. Immediately after helping her to move her hair out of her eyes to the best of his ability he turned his gaze back down to the water. “Well, maybe they are deeper?”
With a new resolve he walked further away from the shore until he could touch no longer and was up to his neck in the lake. A thought occurred to him moments after; he would have to preen his feathers again. This time when he lowered his head he all but vanished from the surface. Scanning the area beneath him he could see nothing, not even the fish from before. The depths were dark, not even the bottom was to be seen. Popping his head up once again he began circling back to Bri. The water felt so cooling and good on his body in this heat he swam around for a bit enjoying it. “I didn’t see anything, but maybe they are just hiding.” He assured her. “Great wings of the western wind, this feels good.” He smiled.

She gave a small shrug. "Yeah.. maybe they're more afraid of us than we could think? I mean.. I guess it would be scary seeing something similar to me only different and with fish parts... so why would it be any different for them to find us scary?" She looked warily at swimming. She'd heard of her mother's experience with getting too far out into water and was not interested in repeating her mistake. Granted her mother had been at the ocean at the tie.. but what did she know?

Spreading his wings beneath the water Roman allowed the cooling sensation to soothe his aching muscles. After a moment he chuckled and returned with a sarcastic response. “Well, I would be afraid too if I saw something like you poking around my home.” With a self satisfied chuckle he continued swimming around, going further out and then kicking his way back in. Coming to a shallow area he touched his feet down and looked at her quizzically. She had an odd look upon her face but he couldn’t quite make out the emotion behind it. “I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings…” He said nervously. Was she upset about being called scary? Or was something else causing her to look so strangely? Cocking his head to the side he looked her over with his blue eyes, taking in her facial features and trying to figure them out.

She shook her head lightly and looked to him giving a small smile. "No.. not that.. It's just.. I'm not really at ease around deep water... I like to stay where my feet touch the bottom." She looked back at the water. "It's a bit silly.. but.. i get it from my mother." She moved a bit closer to the shore and watched him just swim about in the water. "It's fine though... I don't mind." she gave another smile.

After she spoke he swam closer to the shoreline where his hooves were once again on semi-solid earth. Cocking his head he looked at her with a renewed interest, wondering what could possibly cause anxiety when it came to something as harmless as water. “Your mother?” He enquired gently. He would understand if she perhaps didn’t wish to speak about her family, after all, he kept his past secret too. “Don’t you ever wish you could just swim out into the depths?”

she gave a nervous chuckle and nodded. "Yeah, well... she walked out too far into the ocean once. Was nearly swept away by a wave.. She said if it hadn't have been for her good friend she would have been lost and well.. I might have never been." She peered at the water some, wondering what it would be like just to swim out into deeper waters that were calmer much like the lake was. "I can't say I haven't wondered though...."

He listened to Briallan intently as she told the story of her mother, ignoring the fact that the mud had begun to suck at his hooves and cause them to sink. How traumatic it must have been to have the ocean pull you into its cold depths, threatening to never allow you to see the light of day again? Lowering his head he looked down, barely able to see the bottom where he stood due to the murkiness. “I am glad your mother was saved.” He stated simply. He really didn’t know any other way of saying it. If his mother had drowned and he had not been born…well…what then? Finally aware of the mud pulling him in he shifted, popping his hooves out clumsily. Clearing his throat and attempting to ignore the blush on his cheeks he looked away to a far off bank. “Do you trust me?”

"As am I." She chuckled some. "I'll admit though.. It's only deep water that bothers me anything else and I'm fine." She followed his gaze as he looked at a distant shore and fidgeted some. "Trust you? Well.. I guess I do.. Why?" She blinked a few times as she then looked to him.

A smile colored his countenance as he listened to her response. He suddenly felt more honorable, now that someone he had come to call friend trusted him. Stepping closer to her he jerked his head in the direction of the deeper waters. “I will not push you but I would be more than willing to help you swim a little. We will not go too deep for even I can only go a certain distance out.” He didn’t want her to be too fearful but he figured he would ask her anyways. She was his friend and somehow he felt that it was part of his duty to help her through trying times. “I will not be offended if you refuse Primrose, I guess I am just trying to satiate your curiosity.” He added gently.

"Oh..." She gazed at the deeper water, an ear flicking back before flicking forward once more. A slight tremble shook her ears before she took in a small breath and let it out slowly, coming to a mental resolve. She wouldn't let this beat her like it had beaten her mother. Still to this day Her mother refused to get anywhere near the ocean. She was content to just sit from afar and stare at it. or just to play in the sand but if it came to her actually going in the water, One might as well have a better chance at convincing a tree it was a bird, for her mother wouldn't budge.
Giving a final nod, she spoke. "Alright.. let's do this. Gotta overcome my fear some day why not today?" She looked over at him and gave a quick grin before slowly edging herself deeper into the water, still not going any further than where her hooves could touch bottom. She knew better than to just rush out into the water.
