Gently glanced back to see Wolframite still in his uniform, talking to the two men. They looked like they were rough and rude, which was perfect. The poor, smaller, Negaverse Captain was out of his depth already, and it might have been a good enough exercise in improv just to leave him to trying to talk his way out of the conversation he had started.
But Gently wanted to push him a bit more.
After all, talking to two targets wasn't what a normal situation might call up: talking to cops, however, just might happen. So why not send some his way and see how things go? She imagined she would not be his favorite person afterwards, but she hoped to be able to make it up to him.
It was all for the sake of theatre!
She found the cops and told them her concerns, and they thanked her, heading toward the street corner where the men were meant to be. She didn't follow at first, then slipping into the shadows to follow along, powering back up so she could hide more easily, camping in the alley and watching from behind a trashcan. She knew he would be able to tell where she was, but she wouldn't offer him any help.
"Excuse me, sirs," one of the officers said as he approached, hands on his belt, "what's going on here? It's a bit late for loitering, don't you think?" He looked at Wolframite specifically, as he was not sure why such a young looking person was dressed up so oddly.

So far it was going well, and Wolframite felt impressed by his own ability to make idle chatter without causing any alarm. Then again, the two guys just thought he was really weird and probably much younger than he actually was. It didn't help that when he was nervous, his already soft voice went higher, making him sound as if he was still a child at times. Still, feeling far too warm from nerves aside, he wasn't dying ….just yet.
A minor heart attack took hold when two taller, fully uniformed cops stepped behind him and asked if anything was wrong. So much for not raising any alarm. Gasping, he felt close to hyperventilating and realized that that would probably get the cops closer to him and then send him with a police escort to the hospital, which would then make people really take note of his own uniform, and just cause a huge mess.
Turning slowly, he wondered if he could just whistle and slowly walk away, but one officer in particular was looking right at him, and Wolfram wasn't trying to look at the fact that both of these guys had guns and tazers. "I was…just heading home."
The other officer frowned, looking around. "You shouldn’t be walking the streets alone. It's dangerous." The man pointed out, worried about a young, frilly dressed kid walking the streets. Not only were their terrorists, but monsters, muggers, and *****.
"Oh, I know. That was why I was headed right there. Got off…at the wrong bus stop." He pointed out, flustered.
"Do you two men know this kid?" The officer asked, wondering why a passing kid would be talking to two strangers. It didn't seem like safe behavior.
"Nope. This kid just walked up and started talking." The guy with the smoke said, dropping his cig to step it out. He didn't seem to be in the mood for cops and was getting ready to leave. Wolframite was panicking, wishing they'd stay.

Painite watched, grinning as she saw the cops question poor Wolframite. She didn't think he'd take to it so well, but he was doing excellently for his first attempt at improv! She thought he should be quite proud of himself, when all was said and done.
If he was still talking to her at that point, of course.
Not too worried about him being mad (why should he be, that had to be fun, and she was jealous he was having it all!), she decided to step in and try to get him out of there. She had heard his explanation for being there, and opted to go along with it. Still powered up, she knew the cops wouldn't recognize her as the same woman who had just told them about the strange boy.
"Oscar!" she said, making up a name for him, which she thought was fitting. Oscars were given to good actors, right? "There you are! I was napping when you got off the bus, and when we hit our stop you were gone! I had to walk all the way back!"
One of the cops eyed her, thinking she was dressed oddly, as well. Must have been for something weird.
"Hello, everyone," she said brightly. "Is there any trouble? We're late for rehearsal as is..." The two guys shrugged and looked ready to leave, the cops seemed to be calmed, though they were clearly still suspicious.

Wolframite looked like he was about to cry when he saw Painite, and despite being a captain, he just wanted to run at her and hug her. He didn't LIKE cops and they downright terrified him. Getting hit from a senshi blast was one thing. Getting pelted with bullets or arrested was something entirely different. It was strange, but he felt better going after a senshi than dealing with cops. Their uniforms and heavy authority made him want to curl in.
At first, he was confused why she was calling him Oscar, but he remembered her acting and felt a rising relief in that she was saving him as she said she might while he watched him. What a great lieutenant. Helping him out when he needed her. He'd put in a good word for her if he could to get her promoted. OH, how he hated cops!!
When she came, he nearly threw himself on her, bringing her into a hug. The fact that he looked panic probably helped that act that he was lost. "I'm so glad you're here. I thought you left me." If he was acting or just speaking for what had happened, no one knew, and he stepped back and felt tons better. "Can we go now? Please!" He glanced at the cops and then looked back at Painite.

Painite was surprised as Wolframite looked at him with that miserable expression, her heart all but breaking for him despite the smile playing on her features. It was the perfect mixture of sad and funny, and she did feel bad for putting him through it. But she thought it had turned out very well, and he was actually a natural at the whole acting thing.
He had undersold himself before, surely.
She'd tell him that later, to make him feel better. If he didn't punch her in the face the moment he got the chance, of course.
"Oop!" she said in surprise, when he hugged her. She laughed kindly, patting him on the back, shaking her head. "Don't worry, I found you! That won't happen again, even if we have to invest in a leash." She looked at the police offers and smiled, thanking them profusely for their help and they, a bit taken aback because they hadn't actually done anything, told her she was welcome, and she needed to keep a better eye on her little friend, and for them to have a good night. She nodded and the gathering broke off, the men he had been talking about before having slipped away in all the confusion.
Grinning, she looked at Wolframite, clapping him on the shoulder.
"See! That wasn't so bad! You did brilliantly!"

He didn't say anything until he was sure the cops were far enough to be out of hearing and seeing range. When they moved away, he turned to her with the same panicked and stressed expression he wore before. "Brilliantly? BRILLIANTLY?! I could have been ARRESTED!" He stressed the word to somehow convey the gravity of it all. "If they even thought for a moment I was one of those blasted terrorists they think we all are, I would have had a bullet through my skull." A finger jabbed at his temple to show exactly where the point of entry would have been if the cops otherwise chose to raise their weapons.
He rubbed his arms, trying to not think about it. "I hate cops. They can throw you in jail, interrogate you for long hours, and keep you imprisoned. Sure, I can teleport, but that is just a WHOLE lot of mess I don't want to deal with." That sort of authority bearing down on him would no doubt do wonders to break his spirits, but he tried to think clearly. If that ever happened, he would hope he would clam up, keep silent, and not say a word despite whatever hardship would be given. The only saving grace was that he looked too young to be trialed as an adult and that his teleportation allowed him an escape. He was half tempted to phase out right then and there. WHY DIDN'T HE THINK ABOUT THAT?!! He shouldn't have been so nervous when he had such a escape, but teleportation and the second needed to fire a trigger was a big thing to worry about.
He tried to keep his heart from racing. "I do NOT want to do that ever again." He looked at her. "You should have warned me they were coming!"

Whoops, she had imagined something like this would be coming. His expression made her pout, but only for a second before she was giggling and shaking her head furiously at him.
"No, no, you wouldn't have been arrested! Unless you had been really bad at lying, but then we could have just done things the old fashioned way and dropped them to the floor. I wouldn't have let them take you to the pokey, I promise. And anyway, terrorist or not, unless you're present some clear and present danger, cops won't shoot first and ask questions later."
She smiled at him reassuringly, keeping her calm despite him yelling at her. First, she knew she deserved it, and second, she didn't think things had been that bad. He had done good for someone who had said they had no idea what they were doing! She thought so, anyway, but maybe she was easy to please. It didn't bother her, one way or the other.
"Hey, listen," she said, putting her hand on his shoulder, "I certainly won't make you do something like that again, you know? But it might happen without me orchestrating it, and whether you like cops or not, you might get stuck talking to them, and not blowing your cover. You never know. And anyway, you were great! I think you do better than you admit."
She grinned broadly, treating him like she would any of the acting students in her improv class. It was in her nature now, and she had a lot of fun with that exercise, though she felt a little guilty he hadn't had any fun himself.
"Alright, next time, you can make me do something I don't want to do."

With the cops gone, he was calming down, but didn't have much faith in his acting abilities. However, the grim truth was that despite how careful he was, someone could spot him at some point and do just that. Not only that, but there was also that distant reality that if he was caught, he would have to act his way out again or just clam up. Not saying anything though would be more suspicious and acting his way out, and he kept that in mind.
"I still don't want to do that again." He said for the record, and wished that he didn't have to think that he might have to just to get better. Maybe he could practice a few scenario on his own, and just, dabble with a few nameless people on the street from time to time to get some practice. "…but I get your point. In fact, you should really consider making that a class for some officers." He looked up at her. "Seeing as you extended that very lesson to me. We could use all the techniques and skills on our side for both new and old recruits." He thought that, despite how much he had been terrified by the entire thing, it was something she should consider.
"And I can't think of anything too terrible for as long as you don't give me any reason." Of course if he knew she had sent the cops his way, he would have had a reason, and that was not something she wanted.

Painite arched an eyebrow at the idea. She giggled, nodding her head.
"That might be a good idea! I'm not sure how many people might like it, but I'd certainly have fun. We'll have to see!" She grinned at him, thinking she had tortured him long enough. Giggling, she gave him a quick hug, whether he wanted it or not, before taking a step in a different direction.
"When I see you again, I'm going to make this up to you, okay?"
She didn't elaborate, of course, as she didn't yet know what she might do to make up for shoving him into a situation he was completely uncomfortable with and making him suffer through it. But she would think of something!
"Thank you for playing along, and giving it a go!"
She moved to bound off, her attention fleeting, another idea, though connected, already coming into her mind and calling her away. She would be sure to run into him again, though, or call him on their little crystal thing.
