Jack walked down the street, guarding his bag carefully. Oh man, oh man. I can't believe I did this! I just hope no one saw me... He turned the corner and walked through the steamy alley. He climbed the ladder up to his home and when he entered, he locked his door.
Okay... I should be home free for now... Now lets have a closer look at that thing. He walked over to his working desk, and set his bag down. He opened the bag, and pulled out the sword... I never saw anything like this before in my life... I wonder what how it works...
Jack gathered his tools and started to disassemble the gears, and immediately saw something was unique about this sword. Unbelievable... I own every tool available, and yet, non seem to fit... and when I tried to force the closest tool I have, I broke the gear... and yet.. it seen to fix itself, and place itself back on the blade!
Jack stood up and paced around his room. Something is odd about this blade... It's clearly a gizmo by design, and yet.. it has, dare I say, magical properties. I must show this to... him.
Jack once again warped the sword, put it in his bag, and walked outside. After locking his door, he jumped down, and took a walk to visit the man who started this all.

User Image Kameko Hotaka

"Hotaka! Wait up!" JJ was trying to keep up with her, but for some reason, wasn't able to. He stopped, hands on his knees, catching his breathe. He took a big gasp of air, cuping his hands around his mouth, "I can't go as fast as you!" he yelled as loud as he could.
Hotaka laughed as she heard JJ yelling after her. She ran atop one of the ruined building. Jumping across to a smaller one, she slid down a half open construction tube. Hotaka jumped, catching a pole and swinging across onto and even shorter building. She noticed JJ below on the ground. He had started to run again. She jumped off the building, landing on a cloth cover for an old closed stand, and jumped down next to him. "Hey squirt." She laughed.
JJ jumped. "Wha- How did you-? Don't scare me like that!" He shouted at her playfully. "And don't call me squirt! I'm not younger than you by that much."
She smirked.
"Hey! JJ, get back to the shop! Johnny and Ralf need your help." Ricky came jogging toward Hotaka and JJ.
JJ looked from Ricky to Hotaka. He smiled at her and waved then began to run in the direction Ricky came. As he passed Ricky, he whispered something, causing Ricky to turn and try to punch him, then JJ began running back as fast as he could, laughing.
Ricky sneered at JJ as he ran off. "Little brat!" He shouted. He turned to Hotaka. "Sorry 'bout that." He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Why do you hang out with that idiot, anyway?"
Hotaka smiled. "He's only a year younger than me, not even. Besides, why wouldn't I? He's cute." Hotaka turned, her hands behind her back, walking away.
Ricky followed. "So," he paused, "what do you think about me?"
Hotaka stopped. She turned her head to look at him, "You really want to know?" She smirked, then continued to walk.
"Yeah! Maybe...I don't know." He was sure he did, but at the same time, didn't want to be disappointed.
Hotaka laughed. She looked up, though making it unnoticeable for him to tell what she was doing. She saw a bar she could grab and pull herself up with, and a path she could use to disappear and head back home. As she continued to walk, she monitored how close she was getting to it.
"So, are we still on for tonight?" Ricky asked.
Hotaka shrugged, smiling. "Should we be?" She loved joking around with him.
Ricky was worried Hotaka forgot or didn't want to hangout with him anymore. "Well, yeah!"
Ready, and...Go! Hotaka jumped up, grabbing onto the pole and pushing herself up. She jumped up on her left side, landing on a pile of old machines that had rusted together. She was now looking down at him. "Pretty good for someone who's shorter than you, huh?" She laughed.
Ricky watched, surprised, as Hotaka did her little stunt. "Show off." He remembered what he was trying to say, noticing she was about to leave. "Wait! Tell me what you think about me!" He shouted up to her.
She grinned. "You'll just have to wait until tonight, then." Leaving it at that, Hotaka climbed back to the top of the buildings, jumping from one to the next.
Meanwhile, Ricky was nearly going crazy since he believed she didn't answer any of his questions. "'You'll just have to wait until tonight'? What kind of answer is that! Gosh dangit! Again! She left again! Leaving me here without any answers!" After he finished pacing back and forth, he thought about what she said."...Tonight?" Realization finally hit him. He nearly shouted at the top of his lungs, he was so happy.

"Don't let looks fool you, moron."

"Excuse me... Pardon me..." Jack said as he walked through the crowd as the headed to the Professor's lab. I know that the Undercity is usually busy.. but today seems even more chaotic than usual... There must be some event today, but there's no time for that now... The Professor must see it!
Overhead, he heard The Dirigible flying in the sky, and even he gazed at it's splendor. After a moment or two, he rushed to the lab to get the weapon looked at.
Almost knocking down a few people, and apologizing profusely for it, he arrived at the lab of the Professor. He ringed the door bell, and stood waiting.
After a few moments, he rang and waited again...
Jack sighed. Come, you're always home whenever it was unnecessary, and yet the time I need you, you decide to disappear!
Jack decided to try the doorbell one last time, and waited...
Five minutes passed and Jack, who was particularly anxious to find out what it was, yelled out, "Alright Professor, I'm gonna knock the door down. If you are near by, I suggest you don't within a few minutes.
Jack backed a few feet, and turned to look at the door. No.. Just a tad more.
Jack backed a few more feet, and ran at the door. Yet, as soon as we was about to hit the door full-force, the door opened and Jack, who was running at his top speed, was caught by surprise, and stumbled and fell inside the house hard.
"Jack, is that you? Young chap, I told you to use the door bell next time!" After standing up and dusting himself off, Jack replied, "Well, Professor, I told YOU that that doorbell was not working and to cover it until you fixed it." They stared each other down for a moment... Then cracked up laughing, embracing each other. "It sure has been awhile Professor. Good to see that you are well!" Jack said to his old mentor, Professor Fredrick Halstum. "It has been a long while, my dear chap! Good to see that you aren't afraid to get dirty every once in a while!"
After a few moments of pleasantries, Jack decided that it was time to get to business.
"Professor, no doubt you know why I am here by now... Now I must ask you." He set his bag down and pulled out the sword. "What is it, and who made it."
The Professor held the blade, and chuckled to himself. "By god... So it's real... Years of searching, of excavating, to be found by my brightest student." The Professor turned the blade around, examining it at all sides and angles. He got up, and said, "Come Jack. If it's answers you want, then you shall receive them."

Hotaka, once back in her own home, found whatever she could to drink, and drank it. She walked around and sat down. Taking out her pistol from the holder on her thigh, she began to clean the weapon as well as check the bullets. After she finished all she had planned to, she placed the pistol back, leaving her home again. She never really went there unless she needed something, or unless it was being used as a hide out. Hotaka climbed up onto one of the tops of the building, then began jumping from roof to roof until she got to the one she was looking for. She looked down and the streets below, searching for something.
JJ had been back at the shop for about half an hour now. As soon as he got back, Johnny slapped the back of his head and told him to get to work. Since the shop was partially outside, Ralf told him to watch the items in that area and to make sure no one stole anything, again. "We can't aford any more items to be taken!" JJ said mockingly, repeating what Ralf had said. "Dear lord! That freakin' goody goody!" He shouted.
Hotaka watched as JJ threw his 17-year-old fit.
When JJ heard a familiar laugh, he looked around. By the time he noticed Hotaka, she had already reached the ground and was just standing right next to him.
Hotaka placed one hand on her hip while her other arm hung at her side. "What's wrong? Ralf, again?" She smirked.
JJ felt silly now. "Well, I, um..." he stuttered.
Ralf came up behind JJ, so only Hotaka knew he was there. He smacked JJ on the back of the head. "Why don't you be quiet and get back to watching the items, moron."
Hotaka laughed.
JJ realized she knew Ralf was there and never warned him. "Why didn't you tell me?!" He grumbled. JJ began to mutter words. He kicked a can into a gutter, as he walked back to where he was suppose to be watching.
Ralf smirked as JJ left.
Hotaka smiled. "That was hilarious. Though you all could be a little nicer to him."
Ralf shrugged. "Why? That would take all the fun out of it." Ralf walked back toward the inside of the shop. He stopped and waved his hand for Hotaka to follow. "Come on. You know you're always welcome."
Hotaka smiled, and followed.

User ImageNo... no... ew! Definately not... Mit thought as she picked her way over the piles of rubble, trash, and dirt that littered the streets of the slums where she lived now. Her stomach growled and she cringed, wondering if June Bug had gotten the incinerator to work again. It was freezing in her little apartment, and the little robot was really the most technologically advanced thing she owned besides her gun... it was a gift from one of her former admirers, back when she was still...
She shook her head to clear her mind of those thoughts. She wasn't that person anymore. That person had left a long time ago. Mit sighed and ran a gloved hand through her short, spiky hair, readjusting her goggles. Her loose shirt billowed in the gentle breeze as she looked out over the barren wasteland that were the dumps. She stood her gun up next to her, a hulking brass thing that could shoot grenade-like bullets strong enough to down buildings in mere minutes, and that was atleast a foot taller than she was.
Her messenger bag was heavy with all the gizmos she had found on her way to the entrance to the Undercity. Already she could smell the aroma of factories working above her, and the dirigible that would take her to the upper tier.
Hoisting the brass monolith onto her back, she looked over her shoulder at the distant inner of the Slums, where she lived in isolation from the world and its monotony.
The door closed, and she was on her way.

Ryul was walking through the trees, Kowe at his side like usual. His black bladed sword was in a sheathe on his hip and his bow was slung across his back. He had his hands in his pockets as they walked through the trees. He pulled his right hand out and held it out in front of him. With a snap of his fingers, a small fireball formed over his hand. The ball split into three, each about the size of a marble. He started rolling his fingers, making the fireballs spin in a circle. He spun them faster until it looked like a solid ring of fire over his hand. He wasn't paying attention to where he was walking, but he'd been through the forest so many times that he didn't have to look. He knew the way well enough. He could close his eyes and walk through the trees without tripping or running into any trees. They were nearing the edge of the forest and the trees were beginning to thin out. He let the ring of fire die. When the trees finally stopped, Ryul stepped out into the sunlight. Kowe stopped walking and was sitting just inside the trees. He was always reluctant to leave the forest, but after a moment, he followed Ryul out into the sun. Ryul climbed up the hill that sat just outside the forest. When he got to the top, he sat down, then laid back. Kowe walked over and laid down next to him. Ryul closed his eyes, letting the sun warm him. He took every chance he could to lay in the sun. With his affinity for fire, he loved the heat that the sun provided.

User ImageWelcome to the Upper Tier... Mit thought, rolling her eyes sarcastically as she stepped through the steam powered gates. Home to everything that makes my life terrible... Pulling her hat lower over her eyes, she stumbled into the crowd of people. Wow, something's definately going on today... she thought as she headed towards a factory in the distance. I wonder what...
She tripped, bumping into a man on the sidewalk.
"Watch it, boy." he growled, pushing her out of his way. She huffed, pulling her hat even lower over her eyes. Who was that guy anyways? Did he not see the gun on her back? Even if he didn't, her looks alone were enought to... but she didn't look like that anymore, she realized. No more fancy dresses or blouses or ruffled skirts, or piano lessons or invention conventions or... boys...
She shook her head to clear it, something that she was doing more and more frequently nowadays. The factory... she had to go to the factory and see Jack... and if he wasn't there... wasn't there some kind of professor that he had told her about? Gosh, her gun needed fixing, badly, and the Slums definately didn't have what she needed to do it herself. She kept pushing through the crowd, hoping that no one would recognize her...

I've flown a million miles just to find a magic seed
A white flower with the power to bring life to me
You're so exotic my whole body fluttering
Constantly craving for a taste of your sticky sweet

Lina was working away in her secluded greenhouse. Influencing the plants to grow together, fuse into one, was hard work. Though, it wasn't as hard as animating them. She'd get there eventually though. She was determined to do that much. However, she realized that she was growing faint. She looked around and realized why. She was now in deep shade, working on a plant under a small lamp.

With that observation, it was decided that it was time for a break. She walked through her greenhouse, heading for the door. She grabbed a piece of fruit off one of the trees as she passed on her way out. Yes, it is true that a greenhouse is supposed to be able to sustain all plant life within, but she'd been in the shade too long. Plus, she wanted some fresh air, and possibly some company that could actually speak to her.

Outside in the bright sunlight, Lina instantly felt better. The fruit was just a bonus. At the moment, her body began producing food for itself. Much in the same fashion any other plant would. Due to that fact, she rather enjoyed sunny days, and loathed stormy ones. Even her personality reflected the weather at times. If she was stuck inside on a rainy day, she was either grumpy, or extremely lazy. Almost as if she had no energy. Of course, as long as she ate like any normal Kante on those days, she'd feel better. However, it just wasn't the same as the sun's rays.

Lina had been walking randomly, just following her feet, until she finally looked around at where she was heading. She was near a hill, and there were two figures atop that hill. On a whim she decided to climb the hill. Besides, she'd be closer to the sun's rays. Before she got all the way to the top, she recognized the beings up ahead of her. "Ah, Good Afternoon, Ryul and Kowe. The sun is brilliant today, isn't it?" She asked almost rhetorically as she neared the two of them.

I was on the brink of a heart attack
You gave me life and keep me coming back
I see the sun rise in your eyes, your eyes
We've got a future full of blue skies, blue skies

Ryul didn't look up. He knew that voice well enough to know who it was. "Lina, how are you today?" he asked. Kowe looked up at the girl who was walking up to them. He sniffed the air, checking to make sure she wasn't an enemy, then laid his head back down on the grass. His black fur gleamed in the sunlight. Ryul sat up, looking at Lina.

Lina smiled at Kowe as he investigated her. Apparently she wasn't threatening, and he laid his head back down on the lush grass. He was a beautiful wolf, though quite intimidating at times. Lina remembered the first time she had seen him. She had been quite paralyzed, not wanting to frighten him into defending himself. "I'm better now that I'm in the sun's light." She stated with a smile.

As she reached the crest of the hill, she sat herself down beside the duo. The grass around her brightened and grew slightly. She tended to have that influence on plants. Even when she wasn't intentionally nurturing them, they responded to her. "What about you?..." She trailed off, staring out towards the horizon. She didn't understand why the Steamers wanted to live in a place devoid of plant life. Any place like that seemed desolate and dismal to her. Lina would hate to be a steamer.

"Still keeping those flames under control?" She somewhat teased. Lina knew he was one of the best fire tamers there were. She wasn't too fond of fire. It could easily destroy the plant life she loved so much. However, if land did get burnt in a brush fire, the plant life came back better than before due to the rich soil. So, she kind of had a love hate relationship with flames. They were something to admire and be cautious about.

He looked up at the sun. "Hard to be down on a day like this," he said. Then he heard her comment about flames and he smirked. "Don't I always?" he asked. Him and Lina were almost polar opposites. Her power was based on giving life. His main power was fire. Fire, if used carelessly, is the most destructive element. Ryul was always careful with the fire he created. He didn't like destroying things.

Lina nodded to herself in agreement at his statement. It was hard to be solemn on a day as beautiful as the present. Not many clouds in the sky. There was a slight breeze that cooled the air, and it wasn't too hot. She didn't think anything could make the day more perfect.

At his next comment, she couldn't help but smirk. Confident, yes, but a true statement. She knew he took care with his skills and she respected him for it. Some Kante could get reckless easily with their abilities. She'd seen a few get in trouble for being too bold and braggy about their talents. It wasn't a pretty sight. She had to fix up the town square's plants for weeks after that.

"Yes, you do...and it is appreciated..." She commented, nudging him with her elbow while he laid down on the ground. Lina meant that. It was greatly appreciated. "So..any great plans for the day...other than lazing around?" She asked with a twinkle in her eye. No matter how much she loved the plants, she needed a break from her greenhouse for awhile. Maybe he could come up with something interesting to do.

He sighed slightly. "Well, I was going to practice my marksmanship a bit," he said. Not like I need to, he thought. "But you probably don't want to watch me stick arrows in your precious trees," he said teasingly. The arrows that he used were all handmade. He made them all himself. He didn't use magic to make them either, like most Kante would have. "What do you have in mind? I'm up for anything," he said. Kowe stood and stretched. While he may be tame enough not to attack Ryul or his friends, he was still a wild animal. He turned and ran down the hill, disappearing into the trees.
