Mka shrugged as she spoke, feeling a bit uncomfortable. He felt bad for Isi. Obviously she was attached to the rhino. But a hyena tagging along with a rhino seemed very ... odd. Not to mention the fact that the rhino himself hadn't seemed too thrilled about the idea. "It would be easier," Mka said diplomatically. "But less interesting, too."
He wasn't sure what kind of teeth bees had. Did bees even have teeth? "I don't know what kind of teeth bees have," Mkaguzi said thoughtfully. "They're so small, it would be hard to see if they had teeth." He laughed. "I've never wanted to get that close to a bee. I don't want to get stung."

"Is it called stinging when they bite you?"
Isi thought Mka was very smart - maybe even smarter then Rishabh. Mka was much better at explaining things.
"Mka, are Hyena Families usually very close? Do they stick together? Cause Rishabh's Rhino family was very close and if something was wrong they would all help out and I think that if my Hyena Family was around they would have noticed that I was missing by now."

"Yes, that's when they bite you," Mka agreed. Isi really wasn't so difficult to talk to, as long as you said things simply.
He felt a pang as she spoke. For a poor, bewildered soul, Isipayisi was more insightful than he'd expected. She had a point, too. Why hadn't her family gone looking for her? Maybe she had somehow wandered in her delirium, but ... still. He shrugged. "It depends on the family," he said carefully, not wanting to upset her. "Maybe ... maybe you liked to go off on your own, and they don't know anything is wrong yet."
Mkaguzi hoped that was the case. The alternatives were that Isi had no family, or that Isi's family didn't care that she was missing. He didn't want to tell Isi that yet, though. "Come on, we'll have a good look," Mkaguzi said, trying to sound as cheerful as possible. "If we don't find them now, we'll take a break and look for them another day. Maybe they'll find us!"

"Do you really think we will find them? We haven't even found the Beez yet."
The watering hole was just ahead, and Isi took a long drink before she started looking around the edges of the pool.
"When Rishabh walks he makes really deep marks in the ground so if we can find his deep marks they might show us where the Beez are and then we can try to not get stinged while we find my family."
She was pretty observant, for a clueless hyena.

"We might find them. It's been a while, they may be out looking by now." Mkaguzi took a drink as well, thinking hard. He didn't want to upset Isi, but he didn't really expect to find her family here. That would be too easy. He was hoping for clues of some kind.
His train of thought was interrupted by Isi's next comment. For someone who didn't even know what a 'family' was, Isipayisi was sharp. Very sharp. Before she had lost her memory, she must have been an extremely clever hyena. He looked over at her with new respect. "Those deep marks are called 'tracks', or 'footprints'." He chuckled. "That's a very good idea. You've lost your memory but not your smarts." Inspired, the cream-colored hyena began to circle the pool, looking intently for the rhino's footprints or any evidence of other hyenas.

Isi was content to let Mka do the finding of the Footprints. She wasn't too keen on running right back to the Beez again. Plus she was getting used to being around another hyena for, essentially, the first time in her life.
She had developed a walk that was more like a Rhino's walk, kind of on tiptoes, and now she was trying to walk like a hyena again, on the flat of her paws. She had to watch Mka move to see how a hyena did it. Plus it was kind of nice to see someone shaped the way she was. Maybe she could stay with him even if they didn't find her Family.

Sure enough, Mkaguzi did see some footprints. He studied them intently. They were Rishabh's, no doubt about that. "Look over here, Isi," Mka called. The clueless hyena had been a bit quiet since suggesting looking for the footprints. She seemed to be walking a bit awkwardly, as well. Hmm. She didn't seem hurt. Maybe trying to eat grass like a rhino had made her weak. They would have to take a break and get some real food once they had found these bees of Isi's.
Mka followed the footprints, taking care to glance up every couple of seconds. He did not want to walk into a bunch of bees. Suddenly hearing a buzz, he pulled up short. Yep. A bee was circling his head. He rolled his eyes at Isi. "Well, we found the bees."

Isi was tempted to stay where she was so as not to get stinged, but she was pretty sure since Mka was being so nice and helping her find her Family, she shouldn't let him risk getting stung all by himself.
"Beez," said Isi, wrinkling her nose. "Why would anyone live near Beez anyway? My Family would have to be dumb to live right by a bunch of Beez that are always trying to sting you."
Isi looked at the ground around them. The tree was not far off from where they stood. "I don't see any other Hyena Tracks anywhere."
