Anna was sitting in the courtyard, the sun shingin down on her long fire colored hair. She held a small book filled with fairytales that her mother had once read to her when she was a young child, but that had been over ten years ago since the queen had ever read such nonsense. Anna was only reading it because today would be the day that the peasants that her father summoned would be coming to live at the castle. In a way, she was excited to meet other elementals, but she didn't want to marry someone of the opposite element.

To her, that was the greatest punishment she'd ever recieved. She'd rather die a terrible death rather than marry a water elemental.

She could handle her sister, but that was a different case; she loved her elder sister and brothers. They were the only friends she'd ever had that hadn't left her when her temper unexpectedly flared. That was why many kept away from her, they didn't want to say something by accident and go up in flames. Though she had only killed one man, they made her out to be a mass murderer. Humans...their minds were so small and distorted with fantasies of monsters and if anything was out of the ordinary, it shouldn't exist at all. But here she was, a princess with the ability to control the flames that humans had once feared. Fire was tempermental, but it was also passionate and kind. It depended on who it was given to and how it was used. In her case, she did whatever she could to use it for the good of the castle.

Please...if there's anyone who's up in the sky watching over me right now...please help me set aside my ignorance and hopefully get along with this fisherman's son!

Rosaline Lillian Meier

With a sigh, Rosaline looked at herself in the small mirror in her room. The mirror had once belonged to her mother. It had an oval shape and a wooden frame, which my father had carved with floral patterns for her. Rosaline was ashamed of her self when her gaze moved to the small crack on it. She had clumsily dropped the day the royal messenger had come with an invitation from the King. She had been so shocked. Rosaline had been dreading the day ever since she found out she would have to marry the Prince of Air when she was only ten years old! If only she had been more inconspicuous with her use of Earth….

“My dear you look extraordinarily beautiful!” her father exclaimed as he stood at the threshold of her room with hands on hips and a warm smile that reached to his eyes and crinkled its corners.

“Papa stop teasing me,” Rosaline said while biting her lower lip.

“I would do no such thing!” he chuckled. “Those people in the castle with their noses held up high constantly will stop and stare at you! I am sure of it!”

“If they are staring, it will be because I look like a weed among the roses,” she replied bluntly with her arms crossed.

Her father laughed and walked to her. He placed his hands on her shoulders and smiled. “Look at you,” he said while tilting her chin so that she would look at herself in the mirror. “You look just like your Mama.” Rosaline smiled at the memory of her mother. She shared many of her features: the silky brown hair that fell to her waist; the emerald eyes that changed in shades depending on her mood; and the dainty nose with a slight upturn at the end. Rosaline wore a deep green gown with gold embroidery at the hem that too had once belonged to her mother.

“Ah!” Rosaline cried breaking the reminiscence. “I’m going to be late!” She turned and pecked a kiss on both her father’s cheeks.

Rosaline gathered her gown and hurried out of her house where her brown mare, all saddled up, awaited. She stepped on the stir-up and pulled herself onto the saddle. She sat on the horse like a man but that was the most practical thing for now. She was so very late! Rosaline told herself to sit like a lady, with both legs over one side, just before she reached the castle gates.

“I’ll see you soon Papa! Don’t let those workers of yours become lazy!” She waved and then urged the horse to gallop.

I hope I’ll see Kale there…. Rosalie thought wistfully as she neared the castle.

The winds were high today. Mainly because Kira was standing on a cliftop not far from the outskirts of the village. She, of course, had not forgotten that she was set to be married to the Earth prince.
She felt slightly annoyed at that fact. Why did she have to wed a man whose feet never left the ground? She turned and started walking backtowards the road that led down to village.
A grin appeared on her elegant, round face as she suddenly turned and dashed back to the end where she took a running leap, right off the egde of the cliff!
She sailed downwards like a diver then the winds came and carried her higher. She gently flipped backwards, straighting up to fly on her stomach, and soared towards the ground again, flying over a small pond. She reached her hand out and cut the water around her hand, smiling as the water splashed up and made rainbows when the sun touched it.
She raised herself higher as the pond ended. Smiling to herself and not caring that when she landed her dress and her hair would be a complete mess.
Her dress was pale blue in colour and quite short, she had another one prepared for when she met the prince though. She prefered to be barefooted seeing as most of the time her shoes fell off and landed somewhere were she was forced to go on foot. Her hair was long and blonde and it to, was impossible to control when she was up among the clouds.
Kira was almost at the village now. She pulled up short of her house and landed lightly on the ground. A figure came out from the house and ran over to her.
"Kira where have you been?" Her father asked grabbing her shoulders. He was frantic. Any father would be seeing his daughter married off to someone she'd never met before. But Kira's father would be left alone when she she left, seeing as Kira' had no sibblings and that her mother passed when she was young. Sighing Kira smiled and said
"Father do not worry, I shall be there in time if I let the winds carry me,"
"No, no, no, you shall not be flying to the castle. You will ride Chestnut instead,"
Kira sighed again and rushed inside the house. Now she was going to be late. Changing into a dress that went to the ground and was uncomfitably tight. She then went back outside to find Chestnut already saddled and waiting.
"One more thing Kira," Her father said pulling out a small wrapped package. He had a cloak over his arm. He handed the package to Kira along with the cloak. "Open this when you have the time, it was your mothers."
"Oh Papa," Kira said hugging her father. She then threw on the cloak around her shoulders "I shall miss you." She planted a kiss on his head then climbed up into the saddle.
"May the winds be with you Father!" She cried kicking Chestnut into action.
"May the winds be with you, Kira," Her father said before going back inside.
Kira set off in a gallop down the streets towards the castle.

Exiting the large castle into the main courtyard, Richard had ended his journey through the large and endless castle that was his home. "So, today is the day that the others arrive, hmph, what a drag. As if its going to be bad enough to have four more elemental outcasts living with us, I may be forced into marrying an air head." As he said this he slammed his right foot on the ground, his foot bare of any cover, as he did this the stones that made up the courtyard rose, forming into a chair like structure. Sitting down he closed his eyes, placing both feet flat on the earth beneath him. There were many reasons why he was barefoot for most of his day, and the reason that always stuck out, was that he wished to be more connected with the earth itself. By being bare foot he could feel the vibrations of the ground, know where everything is, and hear the earth speak. To him, the earth was the only girl he ever needed. She never lies, she never cheats, she only speaks the truth, and always gives forewarning to disaster. With a gentle smile across his lips, Richard, stood to a fully erect position, digging the heel of his foot into the ground once more. Within seconds the stones that had become his resting place sunk back into the ground. After opening his eyes he began to walk forward, the slight breeze causing waves to form in the cloth of his pants. His stone necklace swaying back and forth with his body.

Approaching the main gate a voice could be heard from behind Richard. "Prince! Prince! Hey Prince! Quickly come in, You must get ready for they're arrival!" The one speaking to Richard was one of the many servants that lived within the castle, though this particular woman was around twenty-five and always acted like more of a mother then his actual mother ever did. His smile fading, turning into a slight scowl as he rotated on the balls of his feet before walking towards the woman.

"I hope you know im not wearing that formal suit, it makes me look like a stuck up banker. And those shoes kill my feet." His words were true. Although he was royalty he never considered himself to be. He spoke as with little respect for anyone, and was much more laid back. His appearance was certainly nothing of royalty, his skin was darkened with a layer of dirt from all his time outside. He hated dressing formally, and he didnt plan to do so now.

"Well I have about three silver coins that say you will be washed up, dressed, and ready to meet our guests, before they arrive." Richard rolled his eyes before following the woman into the depths of the castle, heading for the family tailor, where his outfit had been sent. The last time he had worn the outfit he had become angered with an old friend. Of course when angered the earth aids him. His suit was torn to almost nothing but shreds, and his old friend ended up in the hospital.

Kale Mizao

"Yeah, that will do."He said in a gleeful tone. Kale had just finished getting a couple fish from the lake, so he began to head back to his house. He was wearing some dirty, worn out sandals which were a bit wet from him standing in the water. Above him were a few bubbles with one fish in each one. He walked carelessly, and had completely forgotten about him moving to a castle. He eventually reached his house, a small, wooden shack for him and his parents. He got to the door step, but before he could even knock on the door it swung open. His mother, whom had opened the door, then hugged him tightly. "Oh Kale! I can't believe you'll be leaving us!" She yelled. Kale became a bit confused. "Huh? What do you mean?" He asked, completely oblivious. His mom then pushed herself back a bit. "You mean you don't remember? You'll be moving into the King and Queen's castle today!" Kale was still a bit confused, and was taking the information in slowly. His mom then went back to hugging him tightly. "And you'll be married!" Suddenly, it was as if Kale had been hit by lighting. "What!!!!" He yelled, the bubbles popped and the fish fell to the ground. "Oh man! I completely forgot!" He yelled as he ran into the house. When he ran in he found his father, still in his bed. He stopped and walked in his room. "D-Dad?" He asked, trying to see if he was awake. His dad then turned his head and looked at Kale. "Hehehe, Kale, today's the day..."His dad said in a soft tone. Kale nodded. "Ya, today's the day, the day I leave, but Dad, how are you gonna fish? I mean, you're in no condition to----" His dad then cut him off. "Oh Kale, I may be an old man, but that doesn't mean I can't catch a few fish." He said followed by a small chuckle, which turned into a slight cough. "Uh, ya, you're right..."He said in a neutral tone. "Don't you worry, your mother and I will be just fine, and you'll always be welcome to come and visit us whenever you please." His dad said. Kale smiled and nodded. He then went and then put on a buttoned shirt that was a little big on him since it was his dad's. He didn't have any dress pants, so he improvised and wore some cayke pants that were a bit dirty. When he was done he walked back up to the door. Before he left, his mother gave him a hug and a kiss. "There is a horse outside, waiting to take you to the castle..."His mother said with a smile, but Kale could tell that behind that smile was an unhappy mother. Kale waved to his mother as he walked over to the horse. When he got to the horse, he jumped onto it, the horse then began to head towards the castle. "I hope this girl isn't a huge pain..."He said followed by a small sigh.

Sighing a little when her personal maid called, Anna stood up and brushed off her tunic and pants. She had never been known as the most girly princess and she preferred men's clothes over a dress any day. I guess that's what happened when you looked up to to her older brothers, who had probably influenced her the most.

The maid was once again reminding her of her unfortunate fate. Why us of all the peasants that they could marry? What if he thinks that since I'm a female and a Fire Elemental that he's better than I? She thought dismally as she began to walk inside like a good girl. Anna had always done her best to make the lives of her servants easier, meaning that she would make up her mind and do whatever she could to make their jobs less of a hassle.

Walking up to her room, she changed into a loose fitting dress that didn't compliment her rather...flat features very much. The dress was a light green that emphasized her fire colored hair, making it seem brighter than usual, and her amber eyes seemed to glow like burning coals. The maid backed away before bowing and leaving, she had only been there to make sure that she had chosen to wear a dress. Otherwise the youngest princess might have dressed in a tunic and leggings.

Then Anna sat on the bench on her balcony, and began to whisper a tune that she had once heard from a bard long ago. It spoke of a December.

Kira sighed heavily.
Chestnut was still in a gallop but she still had far to go till she reached the castle, and her prison. She still wanted to be able to touch the sky and fly but in the castle the only wide open space would be the courtyard, and that would be crowded for the most part.
Why did she, of all people, have to move into the castle. Her father was getting on in years and soon he would need her help making the glass he sells for a living. Not to mention he would be all alone everyday without Kira and her airheadness and blind optimism.
Sighing again Kira stood up in the saddle as to get a better look at the castle seeing as she was almost there now. She loved how the wind blew over her face and ended up closing her eyes, loving how it softly caressed her face.
She was brought sharply back to realitly when she opened her eyes and was forced to duck down to avoid hitting a sign. Laughing, as the man whom she'd nearly run down, shouted at her as she kept riding. She turned to face the front again.
The castle was now taking up her whole view and she slowed Chestnut to a walk. She felt so nervous that she stopped Chestnut in front of the gates, scared to go further in case it was her last time seeing the outside world.
"Excuse me ma'am," A guard said to her right and she jumped violently. Sighing with relief she said nervously.
"I was invited...to...the castle. Umm, I'm an Elemental...."
Kira hadn't been told what to say went she got here but it seems she had said the right thing.
"Go through to the stables, your horse will be taken care of there. Then wait for a passing maid and tell her who you are."
Kira nodded to the guard and said
"Thank-you,"
She gently eased Chestnut into a walk and she was through the gates. Trying to control her breathing as she stopped Chestnut again and decided to walk. Dropping to the ground off Chestnut she took his reins and took a look at the castle, her supposed new home. She led Chestnut to the stables and gave the reins to a waiting boy.
"You must be one of the peasants coming to live here," He said while he led Chestnut to a stable and put him in.
"Yes, though I wish was wasn't. I didn't want to leave my home and my Father,"
The boy didn't answer but tied up the reins then said
"You will be waiting for a maid now won't you,"
"Yes. Thank-you," Kira said then walked up to Chestut and patted his head "Be a good boy Chestnut, I'll be down as often as I can to see you,"

Hairu opened his eyes. Today was the day. He got up and a silent servant came in with the robe he was to wear that day. The servant bowed and went out of the room.
It was almost funny to Hairu. His parents paid very little attention to him, and yet, they still had arranged a marriage for him. A peasant girl with the element Earth. He ran his hand through his long black hair. Having to be confided to the ground seemed like more a punishment than a gift.
He washed and dressed quickly into the soft, grey robes. He picked up his favorite weapon, a fan, and tucked it into his belt. He slipped some leather shoes on and sat down on his bed to brush his long hair, something he was very proud of. When it shined and was soft as silk. He looked into the mirror and for a moment, the light played with his eyes as it had since he was little and he thought he could see through his body. He shook his head and headed downstairs.

Of all the places, Audrey loved her bathroom. It may seem weird, but her bathroom was made specifically for her, with a pool and a fountain in the center, various flowers drifting, the scent of lilies always hung about the air. Audrey sat at the edge, her feet dipped in the water, brushing her hair while humming an old lullaby her nurse sung to her as a child. A soft knock roused her from her thinking, "Yes... yes, I'll be out soon". I wonder what he'll be like hopefully strong, nice, and it wouldn't hurt for him to be cute she giggled at the thought. She picked out a simple dress, but it was one of her favorites. A light blue dress the color of the sea on a bright sunny day, it was light and swished around like water. She smiled and put a lily in her hair before leaving.

Kale Mizao

As the horse galloped towards the castle, Kale watched as his surroundings slowly went by in a slight blur of it all mixed together. He then looked up at the sky, the clear blue sky. "Its a nice day out..."He said softly. He then looked back down, noticing a small stream to the side, it wasn't very calm, and yet there were fish swimming threw it with ease. Kale smiled. "I wonder how much longer it'll be 'till I get to the castle..."He said in a gleeful tone, but it didn't last, ideas of what would happened to his parents quickly consumed his thoughts, he began to think of the worst possibilities. "I hope this is worth while, and I hope that we're allowed to visit our parents if we want..."He said, still lost in thought. The castle was now just beginning to show over the horizon. Kale looked over, he watched as the castle slowly rise over the horizon. "There it is..."He said. "My new home..."He said in a bit of a more saddened tone. "But, I mean, at least it won't be all bad, there will be girls right?" He said, trying to reassure himself. When he reached the castle gates, the guards had already recognized the horse's gear and let him threw without hesitation. As he passed through the gates, he looked up at the tops of the castle. "Wow..."He said in aw. "This...is amazing..."He leaped off the horse, handing it over to a servant that was near by. He wasn't quite sure where to go, so he began to just wander around the area until he was given a task of some sort.

Rosaline Lillian Meier

Rosaline steered her mare to the castle gates where two guards stared at her in shock with mouths half open. She blushed, she hated drawing attention to herself, and averted her eyes to the reins in her hands when she realised that she was sitting like a man on her horse! It had been so comfortable that she had forgotten to change her sitting position. And it was too late now! Her cheeks reddened in embarrassment. A GREAT start to her introduction to royal society, she thought feeling the heat rise to her cheeks. Oh how she wished she could evoke two rock boulders and drop it on the heads of the guards before her right now...or have vines wrap around them so tightly that they wouldn’t be able to breath…. Ha! Now that would stop them from staring at her so! Rosalie dismissed those thoughts quickly as one of the guards approached her. He opened his mouth to speak but no words left them.

With determination, as hard as a stone, to not make herself a fool any more, Rosaline held her head high, proud of whom she was. A poor peasant or not she was Rosaline Lillian Meier a powerful gifted Earth magician! She looked down at the guard with apathy. “I am Rosaline Lillian Meier, the daughter of Farmer Olsen and Isabella Meier. I am here to accept the King’s invitation,” she introduced herself and then added, “please let me through.”

The knight nodded. “Yes but from here on you will have to travel by foot,” he said and called for a stable boy.

Rosaline didn’t want to part with her horse and hesitated a moment before dismounting while tentatively taking the hand that the knight had offered; she had never needed anyone’s help while getting off her horse in her entire life! As the stable boy approached her horse, she neighed and backed up. Reflexively Rosaline wrapped her arms around her horse’s neck to soothe her. “Shhh Ayeisha,” she whispered, “it’ll be alright. I promise.” Rosaline kissed the white spot on her neck and watched as the stable boy took the reins and led, now more compliant, Ayeisha away. She murmured a spell that caused some flowers to entwine in Ayeisha’s long golden mane.

The knight cleared his throat. “This way please Miss Meier,” he said while offering her his arm.

It was a part of the knight’s code to be gallant and it must certainly make this one feel at ease to offer such services to a woman like herself unlike the gorgeous ladies who always flocked the court. To make him feel comfortable, and herself too, she smiled and told him, “There’s no need for you to offer me your arm sir. I am sure I can make it across the courtyard without tripping over.”

He was surprised at first and there was somewhat of disappointment in his expression but she could have been reading it wrong. He led her through the gates and into the courtyard. Rosaline’s pace slowed as she marvelled at the colossal castle in front of her. Everything around her was so large, extravagant and elaborate. There were climbing plants stubbornly stretching across the palace walls, not being put out by the castle’s size. There was a fountain at the centre of the courtyard with a statue of four symbols in the middle representing the four elements: fire, earth, water and air. She wanted to have a closer look at it but her eyes were caught by someone with a head of jet black hair and amazing blue eyes.

“Kale!” she shouted with glee and waved. It was wonderful to see a familiar face, especially Kale's since she hadn't seen him in so long.

Hairu was still headed downstairs when he looked out the window. Two people he had never seen before, one male and one female, stood in the courtyard. The woman caught his eye immediately. She had beautiful long brown hair.
He stared for a minute, and then tore his lavender eyes away. She was probably his new wife.
He entered the throne room where his parents sat on gilded thrones. He bowed and stood. He walked over to his throne, which was smaller than his parents and had the symbol for air painted above it and was on the left of his mothers throne, and he sat. He stared at the doors, waiting for everyone else to arrive.

Kale Mizao

Kale continued to walk around, looking at all of the ornaments and other decor that filled the courtyard. He spent most of the time staring at the fountain for some odd reason, but he eventually snapped out of his little trance and continued on with his exploration. He was about to walk over to where they keep the horses when he heard someone call his name. He tuned around and saw a girl with long brown hair. She was waving at him, but because of the distance they were at he didn't really recognize her, so he just waved back with a smile. "Hey..."He replied. He then looked over at the gate which he had came through. 'I wonder if I was the first one here...'He thought to himself. He didn't really know a lot of people outside of his family, especially people in the royal family. He sighed slightly.

Kira stepped out of the stables and saw too more horses being brought in.
'Two more people? I wonder who,' she thought to herself before speeding up her pace to make it to the courtyard. She was avoiding flying as so not to draw attention to herself, but even still she was getting a few stares from people she passed.
Something caught Kira's eye and she stopped to stare. It was an archway. Just a simple archway. Why did something so plain catch her eye? Mainly because it's how she saw herself. Something simple among such other beauties, she would never be accepted. Or so she felt.
She found herself walking again and soon enough she had found the courtyard and too familar faces there too.
"Kale! Rosaline!" She yelled gleefully running out towards them, smiling her big goofy grin. "I am so glad to see you!"
And she was. Being an elemental was one thing but suddenly being moved to the castle to marry a prince was another.
She was glad to have people there she knew and was on good terms with. She had a feeling that she might not get along with with her husband-to-be due to opposites. But Kira's father had always told her that opposites attract, but Kira had pushed the thought away as complete folly.
Smiling she stopped a few steps away from Kale and said
"It's good to see you again Kale,"

OutOfChocolate:

Just because everything's changing
Doesn't mean it's never been this way before
All you can do is try know who your friends are
As you head off to the war

Pick a star on the dark horizen
And follow the light
You'll come back, when it's over
No need to say goodbye
