Adeline was rooted in place to the point where she was sure she would never move again. Her fingers were frozen, half wrapped around the pen she had fished from her purse, while she stared deadpan at Hank. What was he saying? Was he really saying what she thought he was? Because that sure didn't sound like ANYTHING that had been said to her previously. Ever. By anybody. Not even her mom, the only person who did compliment her on a regular basis.
And for a split second, she felt her muscles tense as she wondered if she was being made fun of.
...But she didn't believe that, because Hank seemed way too flustered and sincere to ever pull a stunt that rude. In the end, that thought made her even more scattered.
"Oh, my God." She murmured, her hand hovering over her mouth for a moment until she decided there was no point in pretending she wasn't completely shocked. "Thank you, I mean, I don't even know what to say right now." Her snakes had deserted her, they were all hiding their faces behind her shoulders after they had been included in the poetic compliments. "...Never heard anything like that in my life, I think you're too nice..."
There was a lot she wanted to say, and ask for that matter, but something about hearing it all at once left her dumbfounded.
Aware of the fact her pulse was fast enough to make her hands begin to tremble (just what she needed), Adeline made a point to clear her throat and make a writing gesture with the appropriate pen-holding hand."...That's okay, I'll write my number down if you want." On what, she hadn't planned. His arm seemed like the most likely recipient, unless she found a scrap of paper in her purse.
