Ail looked up into his red eyes. She felt his kiss, his warm breath, the touch of his soft muzzle. She could smell him, hear him, see him, touch him. He was really here. He was really here.
With him telling her that he'd kept her kiss, she broke out into true sobs and leaned toward him. "You're back," she whispered. "You're back!"
She tried to get up, but couldn't. Pining for Karloff had sapped her strength by sapping her will. Helplessly, she reached for him with her feeble forelegs and delicate muzzle with the more feminine version of the fangs both had. He was really here. All that there was for her was a storm of weeping and the release of pent up grief and fear giving way to relief and pure happiness. Her main regret right now was that she didn't have the strength to move to return his nuzzle and kiss, but she did smile through her tears.
"Don't you ever leave me again."

Karloff bent his forelegs down and laid down beside her. She looked weak, and sad--he had caused this. Nuzzling her again gently, he just stayed there with her until she felt well enough to move. "I'll never leave you again. Never." He shut his eyes and left his heavily scarred and covered cheek next to hers.
It felt wonderous to just be here with her. "I promised you I'd come back when I was better." A promise he thought he would never been able to keep, "I've been broken without you." He kept his eyes closed, feeling her tears fall onto his cheek. He didn't want to see the scar on her side, the livid reminder of more pain he had caused her.

Ail snuggled close to him and let his scarred cheek dry her tears. She closed her eyes, sobbing silently, willing her tears to stop and half wishing she had her father and brother's wings, so she could wrap them around Karl and keep him from leaving her again.
"I was lost without you," she whispered. "I didn't know what to do, you ran every time you saw me even though we liked each other. You always told me I was important to you, you always said you never wanted to hurt me, but you always left." She swallowed a sob. "But you always came back. And I...I..."
She swallowed hard, trying to frame the words fluttering through her heart and mind, beating at her throat to escape. "I always loved you, and the longer you were away, the more scared I was that you wouldn't come back, the more scared I was that you'd die before I saw you again, and the more...the more I loved you." With that final confession, the sobs almost tore free again. She loved him more than anything else, and he was finally with her again, this time to stay.

He pressed his face closer to her, trying to console her. "I didn't know what it meant to be loved, I didn't understand." His voice was low, and a bit guttural. "I didn't understand what I was feeling, why I missed you...Why I was upset. I didn't understand that all I wanted and searched for, the only thing that could heal me was back here with you."
He kept his face layed up against hers, letting her tears run onto his flesh. He tried to soothe her, though he'd never had any experience of the kind before. "But I won't leave, I can't leave you again."

Ail's tears slowly dried as she listened to his own confession and she started to softly blushed, quietly made very happy by the fact that he loved her, too. When he said that he wouldn't and couldn't leave her again, she smiled and planted a horse kiss on his midnight cheek. She didn't lay her cheek against his again, but instead gazed at him, the sad cast of her smile giving way to a sunny, loving one, her sapphire eyes resting on his ruby ones once again concealed by the white fur of a cat mask.
She couldn't find any words to say, but that didn't bother her. There were no words for this moment, when they were reunited, now and forever, and had just confessed their feelings for each other. But she did wrap her long, striped feline tail around behind him, a gesture not only affectionate, but also one that still hinted at the deep fears that would always stay buried in her heart of him disappearing on her out of fear and love for her.

Karloff smiled at her. He never could truly remember smiling like that--meaning it. He blushed slightly as she kissed his cheek again, but his eyes couldn't part from her steady gaze.
He felt her tail wrap around him, protectively holding him. Laying his head down, he kept as close to her as possible. He was almost as afraid as she acted that he would leave, for something to happen to her.
But those were discussions for another time, his encounter with Skah Tallutah would have to wait. He wouldn't ruin this moment. Nestling closer to her, he looked up mesmerized by her blue eyes.
He would never leave her again.

Ail leaned into him and closed her eyes, softly smiling. She was tired, very tired. Pining took it out of oneself, but this time, she could wake up without pain and fear. This time, she'd wake up with joy.
She nuzzled him again and then relaxed to fall asleep next to the stallion she'd cared for as long as she'd known him and had come to love, despite all the pain each had suffered.
This time, she could feel in the depths of her heart that they would never part again, and the feeling warmed every particle of her being.
