Sefas Minos
Alchemist

Sefas walked by her slowly, taking a look around, listening to her explanation... Though it seemed like she wasn't from around her, she likely had to go through the same sort of process when she came to this city. This place was indeed an odd one, but it did contain a precious resource.

"Aah, Miss Neysa, a pleasure. I'm Sefas Minos, an Alchemist that's traveled a long way to be here!" He smiled softly and nodded slowly. "Well, I guess you don't know what exactly this region of the world holds that is so precious to one such as myself... Well, This place has a unique kind of metal called Enferantite, which is, incidentally, the only resource here whose value would retain everywhere else... Enferantite is malleable yet strong, and also can easily be altered through enchantment and actually enhances magic... And, it's said that when Enferantite is broken down, a substance from it can be extracted and used as a powerful Alchemical Catalyst... In short, that means that it can be used to augment the power of anything I can make." He looked around at the city. "In fact... I think most of the city is made of it... Though I'm not sure they're aware of its Alchemical applications. It's a real shame, they could make a killing off this stuff..."

He looked around the city, then noted what she said about the Demons. "Demons, huh...? That'd explain why no one's ever tried to trade outside the city... Just getting materials is an occupational hazard..." He kept on walking, carrying the cart behind him. Then something just occurred to him...

"Say, what are you doing here anyway?"

Captain Salnesh
Of the Gray Militia

Salnesh began the long climb up the stairs... Speaking to the Council, in and of itself, was not difficult on any day but Friday, where the Council is summoned by the High Adjudicator to make decisions on all the submitted proposals... Lately, proposals submitted by the Gray Militia took precedence over the others since theirs was the area of defense that needed to be enhanced in the city. It would be several months before an offensive against the Demons could be planned, though, so for now, the focus was staying alive.

"That idiot outsider better know how to fight..." She grunted as she marched her way up the stairs of the winding and twisting tower until she reached the top... In front of her was a young Exile woman sitting at a counter... She looked up, meeting Salnesh's familiar, crimson eyes. She smiled and bowed her head slightly. "Captain Salnesh, always a pleasure."

"Spare me the pleasantries, Denise. Are any of the Council Members in?"

The woman called Denice went into the back room and called into it... What she said wasn't very distinct, but she came back and nodded at Salnesh. "Councilman Vidox will see you."

Vidox... Good. Another Shadow, they'd have a decent understanding of what was going on... After all, this land was originally theirs. She entered the room and sat down on a chair across a desk. The man occupying the head seat was heavily cloaked, as were all members of the council... Generally, one would know whether they were a Shadow or an Exile, but they wore the cloaks and hoods to ensure that decisions would not be made on that basis, and that appearances weren't put on a priority.

"Captain Salnesh... If this is another requisition for weapons, I'm afraid we just don't have the resources t-"

"As much of a concern as that might normally be, there's something more serious I'd like to discuss with you, Councilman Vidox." She shifted in her seat uncomfortably, crossing her legs as she eyed the cloaked council member who seemed to raise an eyebrow beneath his hood.

"Something else? ...Perhaps there is something happening on the outside you'd like to tell me..."

Salnesh cleared her throat and began speaking with a military, serious tone of voice. "Councilman Vidox, the Demon attacks have slowed down recently. While that may be seen as a good thing, it begs to question just what exactly the enemy is doing... We suspect the planning of a large-scale assault, and this is further evidenced by the fact that they only attack people who are gathering water and Enferantite, two things that are essential to our survival. The arrival of a new Outsider has also increased tension throughout the city, and I believe it necessary to detain the outsider and have him assist the Militia in the most constructive manner possible, as he too is in search of Enferantite. He may also be of use with the Female Outsider that came a while before him... It's only prudent that we use them to our advantage, sir."

The councilman nodded slowly, the hood bobbing up and down. He seemed to acknowledge what was going on, though didn't express a significant concern.

"I will bring it up at the next meeting... That's two days from now, I believe." He drummed his fingers along the wood of the desk, inspecting the captain closely. "Captain Salnesh, I must caution you against arousing the fears of the people... This falls under the jurisdiction of the Gray Militia, and problems like these are what it was started for... I will permit you to watch the Outsider. However, do not arouse his suspicions and do not ask him to assist you until the Council has made its decision. That will be all."

Salnesh maintained a respectful pose, though could hardly conceal her frustration at the current lack of action... Still, this was the will of the council, it had to be upheld. "As you say, Councilman Vidox." She bowed deeply and left the room. "I will be going back to the Militia and await your decision." She shut the door, Vidox turning to the window of the tower and gazing out to the city in the wastes...

"... For your sake, Captain, hope your Outsiders are resourceful..."

User ImageNarinthe continued on his way. His eye focused forward, as if it's gaze could burn through anything. His pace never slowed, yet his footsteps never made sound, his arms were straight at his sides, moving with his steps. He listened with delicate ears as the two following him chattered idly. As they introduced themselves by name, he took mental notes of it. Neysa, and Sefas.. Though, he doubted he would see them much more. Of course, he said nothing, nor did he do much. The world of words was beyond him, now. He would merely take them where they wanted within this city, and continue on his own path.

He turned a corner of the black street, sending a glance back to them to ensure they were still with him, and stepped through a doorway after some time. The building was undaorned by signs or labels, and there was only a rusted red light emitting from the dull, dusted window. Inside, his eye's glow became more apparent. He stepped to the desk, a hunched man behind it. The man looked up to Narinthe, a small smile graced his tired visage.

"Shinobi! It has been such a long time! Are you here to buy more..? " As Narinthe shook his head side-to-side, he paused in his speech, looking behind the tall masked figure to the others. He looked back to Narinthe, a small fire in his eyes. "So it is not you looking for business...? But, ah.. they are your friends. I will trust them, as you do." Narinthe wasn't about to correct him.

With a small bow, and the closing of his eye, he stepped aside, his eye's hellfire-like glow hiding behind his eyelid. As he stepped aside, his eye slowly slid pen, as his hair fell across his cheeks again, his horns dimly lit with the firelight. He drew the jug of water from the pouch, as well as the straw, and sipped it through his mask moments later, idly..

Sefas Minos
Alchemist

Sefas approached the man slowly and bowed deeply, his robes flowing down to the floor. "Well met, good sir... I'm looking for a way to procure some Enferantite... I'm supposing you're one of those who sells it?" He smiled lightly as he rose up from his bow, adjusting the belts on his robe to ensure it remained in position... At this moment, there would be a slight glance into the opening of his robe, revealing a black undershirt with belts of vials fastened around his chest... On the outside, he parked his cart of alchemical creations, the crates shimmering lightly from the glass vials contained within.

Selael took a glance around the shop... He figured that a shabby place like this was not particularly rare in this part of the city, the only particularly notable buildings being the immense towers in the center... Perhaps those were buildings for the elite, or simply living quarters...? He couldn't be sure. Though the fact that this place was so shabbily kept didn't bother him all that much, considering that it wasn't much better than the rest of the marketplace. He stood about, watching the hunched man after he asked the question, "How much would it cost for me to buy some?"

Neysa listened to the man name Sefas as they followed behind the odd man. She had read a bit about alchemy in her books but it never went too in depth about it. Most of what the man was saying, she didn't understand but she did wonder what he would do with the precious metal that he was seeking. She opened her mouth to reply to his question but they were already approaching their destination.

As she walked inside she stepped to the side as well, letting Sefas take care of his business. She looked up at the man that had been called Shinobi. "Shinobi? Thats your name? Or is that a nickname?" she asked with a titled of the head. She placed her finger against her lip and thought for a few moments. Shinobi...isn't suppose to be a type of warrior like a ninja...covert agent or mercenary right? Again, information she had read in books in the temple's library she had grown up in.

"Shinobi isn't that bad...It does fit you..though I if I didn't learn your name I was going call you Mr. Strawberry." she titled crossed her arms. "From the shade of you hair...though strawberries are a tad bit bright red than yours. I think you'd be like a strawberry with fangs or something.." she paused for a moment. She looked over at his jug and then down at her empty hands. Neysa blinked a few times and then a frown appeared on her lips. Her shoulders slumped and her head lowered. "Shoot.." she mumbled. She left her water back at the stand. "Well that was a waste.." She must had left it when behind when she ran to catch up to Shinobi.

User Image "How much does it cost...? A lot, Sir.. You know it's rarity.. And it's value, I hope.. It is 600 gold per single pound." the man paused in his speech, his eyes averted to look down, at the papers. "I have 20 pounds left for sale.." Is it something you still desire.."

Narinthe peered at Neysa, slightly listening to the man and Sefas exchange words of business. His sipping was slightly audible, though it was only the sounds of the water passing through the hollow bamboo chute. He nodded at her second inquiry, it was indeed only a nickname. A name he'd adopted by many, as they had nothing else to call him.

As she continued, she made another name he'd never quite heard. 'mister strawberry'? ...That was new. Though it wasn't fully unfitting. AS she explained to him as to why, he plucked a lock of his deep red hair, and brought it before his single utilized eye. As he thought back, to his days in the other lands, he recalled the appearance of a strawberry. As it came to mind, he noted the similarity in color, and held back a small chuckle. And it only grew harder to hold in as she made a comment on fangs.

After a moment, his demonic eye shifted to look at her, an amused light in his red depths. He shrugged after a small delay, a tilt of his head as he did so.Perhaps that fit, fangs.. After all, he was indeed a demon in blood. As she looked at her hands, and remarked aloud with displeasure, he blinked. It finally came to mind: she didn't have her water. He pulled the jug away, peering at the silver liquid. Though she bore an odd aura, she was mostly human. And so, he could last munch longer than she without water.

He plucked the straw from his mask and his jug, and held his hands out, the bottom of the transparent jug resting in the flat palms of his hands.

Sefas Minos
Alchemist

Sefas raised his brow at the vendor, grinning widely. "600 gold a pound, huh...?" He leaned over on the counter, looking over his hands and appearing to take a lot of time to consider whether he should purchase it or not... He seemed to act like 600 gold a pound was nothing, like he was some incredibly wealthy mogul who could easily throw around 30,000. Although... He had something different in mind.

"Yeah, I know it's a rarity... A real commodity around here from what I gather... And you know, I've heard that something else is one hell of a commodity in these parts..." He then gestured back to his cart, a large grin spreading across his face. "How much Enferantite would you be willing to part with in exchange for... 3 Gallons of Water?" His grin reached its widest, akin to a Cheshire Cat.

Kiyoshi Jino
Your Prayers are heard
---------------------------

The gates ahead were dark, and intimidating. Was this the place? Was this where Kiyoshi would find the other half of the mask? He wasn't sure. Nothing was sure in a place where the sun didn't shine, and the skies were dark. How long had it been since that day when he fought for the mask? How long had it been since He had taken his sister's life at the cost of his own? More questions that Kiyoshi needed the answer to. Kiyoshi sighed. He felt that there was something significant about this place. There was no doubt about it. He was positive that the only significance possible was that the other half of the mask was here. Where else could it be? He thought about it. As the gates loomed over him, he made sure that he was presentable. His wings were hidden, and his hair was darkened slightly, along with his clothes.

"I wish to enter!" Kiyoshi called out to the gates. "Who goes there?" was the reply he recieved. "My name is Kiyoshi!" "Well, I know no one of that name. What is your parentage?" "My family is the Jino family!" There was silence for just a moment. "Are you from around here?" Kiyoshi wondered why it took them so long to ask a question like that. "No, I'm not. I'm searching for something." There was another moment of silence, but for some reason, this one was more tense. "Call the Grey Militia! There is another visitor at the gates!" Kiyoshi was shocked that not being from the city was such a crime. "I'm sorry! If it's that big a deal, I'll leave. It's just that this is really important. I mean no harm! I swear!" He could hear activity on the other side of the walls. "What is it that you seek?" The guard asked. "I'm seeking half of a mask! I hold the other half. I can't let this mask fall into the wrong hands." Kiyoshi started to sound worried. He was starting to think that if he didn't leave soon, he would be arrested. "If that's the case, you are probably too late. Most any hands here are the wrong hands." "More the reason for me to come in." There was more silence. "Nevermind... He's good. But I'd keep an eye on him, much like the other one." The guard quieted down on the last part, but Kiyoshi still heard. He breathed a sigh of relief as the gates opened. His entrance into the city was slow and hesitant, but after a few paces into the dark city, he felt a bit more comforted, and continued at a regular speed. "That was difficult." He noted. "I never want to go through that again."

Captain Salnesh
Of the Gray Militia

The captain sighed, throwing her braid on the back of her shoulders... So far, this was an enormous waste of time. She couldn't get the council to allow her forces to leave the city limits to see what the Demons were up to? Bah! Absurd... With those monsters looming to the south and every which other way they happened to come from and strike against people who need to gather resources, the defensive will not work forever... She could already see through the Demons' plans, or at least, she had a decent idea.

They were trying to starve out Tenepolis, deplete its resources and then come in for the kill. That had to be it! But she couldn't be certain... She needed forces to go out and confirm these things for a fact... Her train of thought was then interrupted by a running Militia Man, an exile wielding a rather large mace.

"Pardon me, Captain, Ma'am, but there's another outsider that was permitted entry into the city."

"What the-?! Are we just LETTING them in now? We might as well just keep the gate open and yell 'Come on in'!" She let out an exasperated sigh, shifting her head swiftly, the braid smacking her subordinate in the face... His lack of flinching was a testament to his discipline. Between the Demons and all these outsiders, it was a wonder she could even handle herself... Why not get someone else to-

...She had an epiphany at that moment. Someone else to do it... Perhaps if she could persuade these outsiders to do the work for the militia, they could do the scouting and report back! Yes, as long as they do a decent job of gathering intelligence, the Militia would be fully equipped to move out when the council finally made its decision.

"...Come to my quarters, soldier. We've got something to take care of." The militia man saluted his captain, then followed her closely as they headed to one of the black, metallic spires at the heart of the city...

Neysa watched Shinob curiously. His eye reminded her of a little flame from a candle light. She found the way it had its glow was interesting. she blinked and looked over at the jug that he held out to her for a few moments. It took her a moment for it to click and then she gently took it from him. "Oh. Ah are you sure?..Thank you." she said and took a drink out of it. She pulled it away and looked back up at him. "Quick question...do you always carry that straw?" she asked.

She looked over at Sefas and watched him talk to the other man about the metal he was looking to buy. It did sound rather expensive, she wondered what he would want to use it for. Her eyes scanned over the situation as she listened in, looking for something new to learn from that would help her in the future. Exchange for water? she raised a brow as she watched him. She looked down at the water that was given to her, then looked up at other men. No wonder the water was rather expensive around here. she thought with a slight frown. What a waste..I bet who ever found it was rather pleased with it...

Neysa let out a soft sigh and her gaze shifted back to Shinobi. She held up the water to him. "Do you want it back..I don't think I really need it..after all you did buy it..I promise I don't have a cold." she paused for a moment as a question formed in her mind. "Can demons get sick?" she asked "I've never heard of one who has the sniffles...perhaps I'm wrong though..."

Kiyoshi Jino
Your Prayers are heard
---------------------------

Kiyoshi felt uneasy in such a dark, joyless city. What awaited him there? Why would the mask be in this place? He remembered losing the mask in Tenepolis, which was obviously not where he was. Tenepolis was beautiful and green, and was filled with sunlight beaming from a blue sky. The city he stood in was a step away from hell.

Kiyoshi progressed through the city quickly, looking around everywhere for the mask. He would ask anybody he walkd by if they had seen what resembled a broken mask anywhere. They would all shake their heads, or give him funny looks as though he had three heads. It soon seemed as though his search was pointless. He was never going to find that mask, was he? He kept asking around, trying to see if anybody had seen the mask, but still made no progress. It wasn't long before he came across an odd group. There was an odd looking masked man with horns, with a young looking woman and a man with long purplish hair. "Excuse me!" He began. "Have any of you seen a mask? Half a mask, actually. I have the other half." He pulled out from his shirt something that was shimering. It turned out to be half a mask, but it was sparkling, and bright white. "The last time I saw it, it was grey, but it could have changed colors." He smiled, hoping that it would help the other poeple trust him. Then again, this city seemed to throw a tantrum if you came to visit, so Kiyoshi stopped smiling. Then something occured to him. He still had no idea as to where he was. "Also, can someone tell me where I am?"

User Image His large, sunken eyes widened with alarm. 3 Gallons of water? His eyes shifted from Sefas to the cart as if in disbelief. But as his eyes met with the large containers, he stuttered. "3-- 3 gallons..?!" He paused, to look down at his papers. Scribbles of pen ink across the pen, as he calculated the prices. Finally he looked up. "Does 16 pounds suit you..?"

Narinthe smiled under his mask, letting the pleased light reach his eye as she took the jug. She paused, to remark. He nodded to her eagerly, though no less honestly. The straw was the only way he could drink without using his power. If he always used his powers like that, he'd get more fatigued than if he hadn't drank at all..

His eye shifted to the conversation. Whoever Sefas was, he made a great deal of money. Or, he was a foreigner from probably the West or North. wAter there was an easily obtained resource. Perhaps he was here just to barter and profit off of the people who didn't get it so easily. It would be an effective scheme. His thoughts faded as she spoke to him after drinking from the jug.

He nodded gently, His gloved hand extended out, and gently procured it from her. He placed the cork in the jug, and slid both the straw and the jug into his pouch again. As she went off on another thought, his eye shifted to the newcoming man. Perhaps he was just as connected as he was.. No less, his brow furrowed, his eye returned to it's emotionless glow. His arms folded across his blackened chest.

A mask..? No, half a mask? His eye narrowed slightly, perhaps the lack of water had gotten to his mind. As he pulled the shiny object from his shirt, he looked upon the half of the mask. He raked his mind for anything similar. After a moment, he shook his head slowly, his rd hair swishing across his masked visage. He'd not seen anything like it before.

His last inquiry only futhered his theory the man was going without water, or food or something. He walked into a city filled with treachery, opened a door to a shabby, unlabeled building, and asked where he was. Narinthe resisted a snort of contempt, merely remaining silent as usual.

Sefas Minos
Alchemist

Sefas seemed to widen his brows in shock at the offer. 16 pounds of Enferantite for 3 gallons of water? Holy mackerel... Now he felt like a dirty cheat. This is a man who clearly underestimates the worth of water in a place whose only drinking source has to be filtered so many times before it was even fit for consumption...The alchemist held his hands up and laughed nervously, as though a weapon were being held to him.

"N-Now now, you're making me feel like a crook... How about..." He thought for a moment... The shop owner said he only had 20 pounds of it to sell... Sefas didn't need an enormous amount of the metal for experimentation, just enough to run some tests... He thought a bit longer... Ten sounded better. It was enough to run a decent experiment and maybe even get some left over to be crafted into a magical item.

"...How does Ten pounds for the Water sound to you?" Well, it seems even merchants have hearts. "In fact, I'll get the water right now. Be right back!" He walked outside to his cart and grunted as he struggled to pick up what appeared to be a particularly large vat if water... It reverberated as it hit the counter of the desk... He panted a bit, clearly not used to heavy lifting. "Yeah... Here it is..." He grinned lightly and stretched.

Neysa grinned when he took the jug from her and slipped his straw back in to it. She wondered if he always wore his mask and why he did so. She didn't think it would be a good question to ask since he didn't seem to speak much. Though she didn't mind, he seemed to be an interesting character with out his words.

She then turned her attention back to the Sefas and the man that was selling him the metal that he was looking for. She then heard a voice of another and looked over to find a man with white hair. Her gaze shifted to the mask that he had pulled out to show them. She had never seen anything like it before. Neysa could only shake her head. "I'm sorry...I've never seen anything like that before..." she said with a slight shrug. "As for what city you are in..It's called Tenepolis..I can't really tell you much about it....this is my first time here as well" she started to wonder how this man got into the city. If he didn't know where he was at then how could he slip in...or even how did he convince the guards to let him in. She let out a soft sigh and looked up at Shinobi. she found that the warmth in his gaze had been lost and returned to the original state that she had seen before.

She looked over at Sefas and gave him a small smile. "Are you finished with Business Mister Sefas?" she asked. she had never seen and exchange with water. If she she knew that she could do that then it would have helped her in other places in the waste land. "Did you get all the metal that you needed for what ever you are planning to use it for?"

He looked quickly to Narinthe, and whispered," You've gotten luck, befriending such a wealthy man like that!" As Sefas grasped the gallons and turned back to enter, he looked back and gave his own nervous smile. "I will retrieve the material, one moment." the man stood, and unlocked a door behind him, and stepped inside. After a few moments had passed, he returned, with an ornate box. He opened it up, revealing tn large black ores. "Here you are..."

Narinthe continued to stare at the newcoming man with an emotionless red eye. As Neysa answered in the same manner, he gave a small shrug to the man, as if to apologize. The jug and sraw being back in his pouch, the masked man let his eye close for a moment, though his ears, hidden by a veil of red, twitched, as if to ensure no movement could be heard in his blind moment. After a moment, it slid open again, his eye shifting to the metal-working man, and Sefas.

3 gallons of water for 10 ores was a good deal on his old friend's part. He smiled faintly, though this time it did not reach his eye. As Neysa inquired, he felt himself listen in again. If they were done, and had no other wishes from him, he could leave. Perhaps go to an inn and get some rest, and some sake to boot. It had been a long day for him.. though interesting.

His head turned back to look upon Kiyoshi.
