Prancer ran swiftly across the snow-covered mountain. His sense of smell may not be as strong as that of the other animals around here, but he knew that scent. It was the scent of a deer's blood. A scent he closely shared. And the scent was nearby, meaning the hunters were nearby, meaning danger was nearby.

So Prancer fled, thankful that running through snow didn't hinder him at all. As he ran, he berated himself a little. 'What was I doing on top of this infernal mountain, anyways,' he wondered. 'I'm never safe... Anywhere... What am I going to do if I'm caught? And why won't the smell of blood grow any fainter?' He soon found out why. He only knew one way down the mountain and, wanting to get down as quickly as possible, he found himself dangerously close to the body and it's hunter.

He froze with fear, but quickly recovered. He wouldn't get very far running away, so he glanced around and dashed into the nearest possible hiding spot. The reindeer found himself squished between snow and an old, empty cabin.

Nika was about to greet the newcomer when Maiko came bounding into view, kicking up snow in her wake. The Elder gave the bouncy sled dog a bemused smile. "Hello, Maiko," she greeted calmly. "Yes, I am glad you noticed our visitor. Or else we would be quite in danger." She gave a small smile to show she was ribbing the younger dog, then turned her attention to the stranger.

"No, you are not intruding," she told the other. "We do not block out newcomers, especially those of our kind. This is High Pointe Mountain, home of the Yukon Gang. My name is Nika, and this is Maiko, one of our racers."

Denali caught scent of Ayame not far away. "Ayame!" she called out, knowing her voice would carry across the stark, treeless expanse at the top of the mountain. "Come help me get this kill into the cab..."

She trailed off as she caught another scent very, very close tot he cabin. Narorwing her eyes, Denali let go of her kill for a minute and padded towards the smill. It was a mix of fox and deer, and entirely confusing. Who was there? Growling lowly, she sauntered towards the course of the smell, until she was looking down at a brown figure huddled between a snow bank and the cabin wall.

"Whatcha hidin' there for?" she smirked. The Lead fox wouldn't kill this strange looking...deer? Fox? But a hiding creature deserved some kind of questioning.

"Need me, Boss," Ayame called out, using her nickname for Denali, halfway between the cabin and the deer carcass. It was a reflex reaction; her Leader could handle herself just fine though and Ayame knew it, so she slowly continued on her original route to the scent of fresh kill. Denali had lungs like a moose anyway, if she needed help the whole mountain would hear the call.

Arrin shivered. He couldn't help it he was cold. It wouldn't have been so bad had he not fallen in the river the night before. He had quickly holed himself up and tried to dry off knowing that freezing would lead to his death. There were still small ice crystals in his fur today though. He slipped on a patch of ice and landed on his belly. There was some kind of noise in the distance off to his left but he didn't dare approach. It could be something dangerous and mean. I can't fight so I'd only end up getting hurt more then I have been. I wish Cari were hear she makes me feel better about myself. I enjoy her company. Arrin got up and continued on his path trying to stay as unnoticed as he could with his dark green hair and purple foxes.

(some one save my half frozen depressed fox? He is stupid and can't help himself.)

Cari was up and about early, even before the sun had been. The vibrant female loved running at this time and watching the sun come up. If she was extra fast she could even find a good spot on the mountain to watch the sun right before it even rose! Today was such a day, and she found herself happily humming as she trotted down the part of the moutain she'd picked for running practice and back towards the gang.

A sudden sneeze made Cari freeze in place, ears twitching. She sniffed at the air and followed her nose. "Arrin?" She was pretty sure the mass of light blue fox up head was her friend/hero Arrin, cause no other fox she knew had those distinctive purple and black spots. "Arrin," she happily exclaimed, sprinting up the trail and catching up with the male.

Hearing the familiar call that he had so longed to hear Arrin turned.Cari? You came. I'm so glad. Arrin smiled warmly happy to see his dear friend again. Not paying attenition where he was going he was shocked when he head a squeak under his next step.

Rόis looked up at the big male that had just stepped on her. Off now please. Once the male removed his foot from her tail she continued to stare at the blue male and the odd looking female trying to decide if she should run and hide or bite them. Her purple eyes started at them intently trying to solve the conundrum. The female is very pretty and has kind eyes. The male seems meek and non-threatening so I suppose I could stay. Should they turn out otherwise I'll bite the male quickly at his ankles and run off to hide. I can blend in fairly easy as long as I throw snow on me to cover my colored parts of my coat. Mama wouldn't like it if I bit someone but she would understand since it's better to be safe then sorry.

Cari bounded up to Arrin. "I've been here for almost a week after we got lost in that storm. They accepted me into the Gang and I'm on a running team and everything! Oh, what's that?" Cari bent down to examine the white kit. "Hey there! You get lost or something? Need somewhere warm to sit?" She looked over at her friend/hero. "Oooh, you look like you need warm too! Come one, we should go talk to the Elder and see what she says. Maybe you can both join the Gang too!" Cari beamed as if this was the most brilliant idea ever.

Worst. Hiding place. Ever. They gathered at this cabin in swarms. So naturally, he was found within seconds. Still, it was better than being hunted down. Slightly. Depending on how this little interaction went. With a sigh, he crawled out of his little space. He hadn't even been fully under the cabin his; antlers were too tall.

Standing full again, he shook the snow from his fur and examined the vixen before him. Vixen? Or dog? How confusing... But who was he to talk? "I was hiding, because I've learned that running tends to be a bad idea," Prancer answered honestly. "And you were dragging around a deer carcass." He didn't fail that the scent of blood was especially strong around her.

User ImageThe blackness and nice comforting warmth clung to her comfortably and she tried her hardest to hold on to the last vestiges of sleep. Andere knew she should get up in case she was needed or a delivery or something needed to be made to day but the tribe knew where she was and she had accidentally spent too much time training yesterday and after seeing the gorgeous moon out stayed up waaaaaay past when she was suppose to.
Then again what if some important job came in like transporting medicine and because Amdere was late and sleeping it cost precious time and who ever needed it died. Suddenly Andere was wide awake and standing up forgetting that her small little den didn’t really allow her to do so. With a groan she rubbed her now sore head after its unfortunate run in with the hardy icy surface of her ceiling. Suddenly a rather load call caught her attention and she made a note that the rest of the tribe was up. Some how the sky blue vixen wasn’t too surprised, luckily the call seemed to be for some one other than her.
After finally squiggling out of her den she was hesitant on what to do. She could go down the mountain and check things out. She vaguely remembered some one else was suppose to have been going down or she could go in the direction of Denali’s call even though it wasn’t for her. Ah well it was too bad that there weren’t any sticks or weird shape rocks around. ‘might as well go see if the tribe needs any help’ Andere thought slowly maneuvering herself over to where she assumed the rest of her tribe was.

"Hop to, Ayame! There's a stranger hidin' by our cabin!" Denali grinned and wagged her tail; she did so love to be handing out the orders.

"While hiding's a poor plan when you're near a tribe, bucko," Denali snorted. "But not like anyone here's gonna eatcha. You look more like one of us, notlike one of your unfortunate compatriots." Ali nodded over her should to the dead deer she'd been carrying.

"Anyway. Name's Denali. Welcome to High Pointe Mountain, home'a the Yukon Gang. Who're you?"

Winter, her favorite season of the year. She yawned hugely, stretching her lanky, sinewy body. She whipped her tail back and forth a few times before straightening herself out, satisfied with how invigorated she felt after stretching. She looked out at the snowy landscape outside the small den she found for the night. It was time to get moving again, since it was winter after all. Winter was racing reason.

She crawled out of the den, red eyes quickly adjusting to the light. She licked her lips, then sniffed the air. The other dogs were already up and about, it seemed, and apparently there were far more foxes and dogs wandering around now, since the amount of scents she was smelling was close to overwhelming. No matter.

Mika's muscles tensed, then she bolted off in the direction of the cabin. She could make out Denali's scent well, but there was another scent, a scent of a deer meshed with the scent of a fox. Perhaps she was still groggy and that was messing with her. Denali probably found a fox to go hunting with and brought the kill back to the cabin.

She reached the side of the cabin in no time skidding to a stop. She flipped her hair back into place, then sauntered toward Denali and the... deer fox? She blinked, tilting her head to the side, then chuckled. "Hey, Denali, have you been out befriending the prey?" she asked, ribbing the other sled dog lightly.

"Harhar," Denali snorted as Mika came up to her. "Not sure. I can't tell what he is." Ali poked the brown male in the leg; he felt more like a fox, muscle-wise, then a deer. But he smelled like both! Then, she and Mika weren't exactly clear cut either...

"'Bout time ya got up, lazy. Everyone else is up and about. I even caught this poor fellow already," she nodded back to the deer. "But I'll probably send Ayame out to get another one, the herd's close by. Can't let an opportunity like that go to waste, ya know?"

Denali looked back at the male, watching for his reaction about another member of the local deer herd being killed. Did he sympathize with the herd, or with foxes?

Amaroq grinned toothily as he stepped out of the stream, which was so cold it would have been completely frozen over, if not for the fact that water was moving. He'd purposefully gone swimming before the sun was even up, taking advantage of the coldest part of the night. This was mental endurance training to the half-breed; if his team ever fell through the ice, he'd need to have all his mental acuities in order. He couldn't succumb to shock in a moment like that. In the winter, he did this every morning. Should they ever make that mistake, Amaroq would be coherent enough to rescue his team.

Stepping out of the freezing water, Roq should his fur out, spraying water everywhere. Already small icicles were forming in his fur, and he wasn't fazed. The little shocks of cold to his system kept him awake, kept his body circulating the blood, kept him at his most efficient. This was the kind of mindset he lived for; the feeling that you were close to the edge, but had just the right amount of precise control to keep yourself alive.

Smirking as he felt more water harden and freeze, Amaroq started his treak up the mountain side, hardly noticing the scent of deer. Denali, no doubt. The little brown-noser spent all of her time trying to prove herself to Nika. He snorted--idiot. Who cared what Nika thought of her prowess at hunting? What mattered was winning, and proving yourself top dog.

Or wolf-dog. He rumbled to himself in amusement and crested the mountain, looking to see if any of the others were around.

Caprice grinned at the bouncy fox and wagged her tail in greeting. This blue fox seemed like she'd be a good friend to romp with. But, Caprice could tell who was in charge, so she turned back to the pink vixen who introduced herself as Nika. She didn't seem a bad sort, teasing her blue friend. And, she seemed to be allowing Caprice to stay.

"Hello Nika, Maiko. I've been up here looking for others, I'm glad I found this place." Caprice said cheerfully. She tilted her head when Nika mentioned 'racers'. There was racing here? Oh, Caprice was definitely signing up for that, she loved running. "There's racing here? Can I sign up for that?" She finally found a group that she seemed to fit in with, she knew she'd probably have to earn her keep, but she could do that too so long as she got to stay.

Rόis’s eyes widened in shock at the energy in the female’s voice, she is definitely nice. I’m sure of it. Having decided that the two foxes where not much of a thread she began to relax. No I’m not lost. I have permission to explore. Somewhere warm would be nice though. Rόis flicked her tail as if thinking it over. Join a gang? What would you do in a gang? I’m Rόis. Who are you two? This is kind of exciting. How many foxes are part of the gang?

My name is Arrin. Arrin then looked at Cari. Join a gang? What could I do to help? I know I told Cari I could gather but I don’t really have any skills and don’t know what I could gather here in the snow. I would be useless. No I would be less than useless. I don’t know about joining but I would be happy to think about it. You’re already a member Cari? That sounds exciting. Arrin fidgeted a little bit and sneezed again.

Cari was bouncing around excitedly. It was often said the vibrant vixen's mind was several steps ahead of everyone else's. It sometimes gave off the opinion that she was silly or even weird, when she went off spouting ideas that didn't even seem relevant to the conversation. It wasn't that Cari had no clue what was going on, it was just that her speedy mind already jumped forward to view the many possibilities. It was one of the reasons she made such a good Swing, her leader usually didn't have to mention what was on her mind for Cari to pick up and act on it.

Right now Cari's mind was focused on how these two would make excellent memebers in the tribe. "Come on, we'll go to the cabin, and you can get warm, and Mika and Nika can meet you can maybe help you decide where you'd fit best!" With that the overenthusiastic vixen plucked up the kit from the snow, holding her gently despite all her rapid movements, and began several jogging bounds in the direction of the camp. She looked back periodically to make sure Arrin was keeping up alright, glad the snow was packed just enough so it could be walked on if you didn't put too much pressure on it.

Ayame nodded to the Elder as she grabbed the deer leg and began to drag it in the direction of the cabin like Denali had instructed her. While her speed versus fleet-flooted deer meant half her kills were missed, once Ayame got her jaws on something she never let go. Muscles strained under her fur but her trot down to the cabin looked as natural as though she wasn't even dragging something as heavy, if not heavier, than herself.

Ayame stopped and dropped the deer right outside the log structure, leaving it against the wall in a spot that would hopefully be out of the wind if it started up later. Now she was confused, sniffing at the air. She knew what deer smelled like, there was even one next to her for crying out loud! So what was that odd scent that was only slightly off deer, and mixed with fox? "Boss," Ayame called out uncertainly, trotting over to the doorway and sticking her head inside curiously. Her eyes widened a little at the deer-fox she saw, but otherwise Ayame was still and silent.
