The words of a loved one seem to hold all the weight of the universe. All the time in the world wrapped into a little bubble, only to burst by the finality of the last words shared. And then... emotion, potent and pure, just.... love.
Words alone can be harsh, cruel, uplifting, and everything in between. Words uttered from a specific mouth, a specific voice that rings through each syllable and resonates with familiarity... those words, the meaning behind them, a simple proclamation or an idle comment about the weather... those words, from that voice, from Bliss...

Do you want to be mine?

Some part of her was baffled by that question, confused that he even needed to ask because everything was so certain now... so Right.
But, then, given their history... she could not blame him for needing the confirmation. For asking a question to which her only answer had ever seemed to be to run away.

She wasn't running now. She would stand by his side, and she would run with him, yes,- but never away. Not anymore.

"Yours. Only, always, Yours, Bliss." A simple Yes would not suffice. She had given her consent too freely over the years, and not always to him. Not to a Yes that question, but to the affection and the results of moments of passion.... yes, she had said yes far too much.
But maybe he needed to hear it? Just one more time?

"Yes." For Him.

I'm Yours. I've only always ever been Yours, we just didn't know it yet... or maybe you did?
She wondered, just then, what tricks of fate or shortcomings of her soul had managed to keep them apart this long.... then realized that, well, it really didn't matter anymore. Evelyn and Bliss have each other, and that is what matters.

Almost as an afterthought, images of her firstborn sons trickled through her mind. She knew not where they were, and that they had been an afterthought- even to this- filled her with that familiar guilty sorrow- tempered by the happiness she felt now.
She would find them. They would find them together. And they would fix the wrongs, and heal the hurts, and discover what lives their children had come to lead in the absence of their parents.
Somehow, everything seemed possibly now.

Now that we're... together forever.

Lifemate.
A label, a word, just a simple phrase... and yet, somehow, it meant everything- coming from him.

"Always."

Always.

Such a simple, small word....yet it held the weight of the world.

When used, it was meant to give the notion of 'forever and ever', or 'never not'. When used, there was so much at stake. Always. Too often creatures abuse the word 'always' - demeaning it's potential and it's importance in speech by saying, 'yeah, I always do that', and really not meaning to say it happens every single time you get a chance to do it. No. Always did not have a definite end - it meant there was no stop, no finish. To break a promise was one thing, but to break a promise after the word 'always' was another. In those cases, one unknowingly put a stop to a situation that was never supposed to end - and it demeaned what it meant to use such a strong word.

Always. Did it even mean that, anymore?

Evelyn had told him she was his, he was hers, always. They were no longer two bodies meant to be together and share this lifetime on earth together, but two souls. Two souls meant for an eternity - wherever this life and the next would take them - they were it. There was nothing or no one else. Bliss hadn't intended for his question to be so strong and so touching, but he couldn't help but feel as though her response said more than he could ever say in a lifetime. He was just a simple stallion, as simple as the word she chose, but it was perfect. It fit him; it fit her; them. They embodied, together, what it meant to use the word 'always'.

Or at least, he would make sure of it. Perhaps not now, but he'd never let her slip away again. He'd go down fighting, this time. To any and all other stallions who didn't think he was worthy of a mare like her - he'd say....they didn't know what it felt like to have an always kind of a mate. A soul mate. Try as they may, Bliss would never let them steal her away again, nor did he think she'd go. He trusted her, with every inch of his being he trusted her. He'd tell her all his deepest, darkest fears and secrets, and he knew she'd never tell a fly. He could give her his heart, and it would be safe.

Forever. Always.

With her. For her. By her. Everything Evelyn.

Forever.

These thoughts and feelings were undeniably foreign, to the once foolish stallion, but he knew immediately that they were right. Wherever deep down inside of him they came he did not know, nor did he care to think - all he knew what that being around her made him better. He wanted to be everything he could be for her, and her alone. And he'd try. She had already agreed to loving him, and becoming his lifemate....and for that he was the happiest stallion alive, but he wanted to be more for her. He wanted to be everything, the way she was for him.

Perhaps he was. Maybe her thoughts trailed right along side his. But Bliss couldn't speculate what she was thinking, nor dare he ask, for fear of coming off less confident than he seemed. No, he'd quietly grow stronger for her. Day by day he'd do his best to outdo himself. They'd grow together, both emotionally and physically - their bodies changing just as rapidly as their minds. He needn't worry about growing old alone, or without a friend, because he had her. Finally. After all these...years?, he had her. And she had him. They couldn't stay away from each other forever, it seemed.

They'd always find a way back. He should have said that to her the day they met. He should have told her he loved her. He should have fought.

For her.

But that didn't matter now. What mattered was this moment. And the future. "I am happy to hear you say that," he grinned, and nudged her in the side playfully. "So what's next? Back to my - um, our home? I'm not completely sure how to get back from here...I was kind of just wandering earlier. But that's no problem...we can wander together! Right?"

Even with the confirmation of their eternal bond, something so simple as a nudge felt wonderful. Her nerve-ends tingled delightfully as a pleasant shiver ran down her spine at his familiar, beloved, grin.
She had heard someone say, once, that to be in love was to be young forever. She had not understood at the time, for she thought that though youth had a certain naivety that was charming in and of itself... there were far too many mistakes one made during their formative years, to compare Love to never-ending youth. Maturity came not with years, but with lessons learned and stunning revelations of the soul. An old stallion could be silly, just as much as a colt could possess insightful wisdom despite his age. To be young forever... it was, perhaps, not the newness of the mind that was referred to. The body, it's sensations, the spring in one's step and the sparkle of young eyes... but, then, arthritis and other ailments of age plagued even those still so blissfully in love.

Perhaps, after all, she had been focusing on the wrong word in that phrase...
Love was not a one-time occurrence, nor a passing fancy. It was enduring, everlasting, in the purest meaning of those words. It was a truth that could be hard, or ever so kind... exhilarating, exhausting, exuberant- and all of that and more, at once. Some mistook kindness and affection for love, and others thought they were in love with something new on a daily basis. Those were mere shadows, hints- nay, not even comparable to!- what it felt like to love and be loved.
It was a feeling that was all-consuming and yet could fade to a subtle thrum of assurance, confidence, and peace... Love is...

Love is Bliss.

She smiled back at the stallion, warmth in her eyes.
And, she was so very happy to say that. That she could do something, anything, to bring him joy. A small part of her thought that she had only ever been herself around him, but she knew too that there were denials and refusals in their past. But, no more. Acceptance, and... love. This was their future.

She would go anywhere, now, with him.
And, in reality, they could go anywhere- well, almost anywhere. Perhaps the sky was out of bounds for all but their spirits. And the depths of the ocean would not be kind to their lungs... but, anywhere feasible, they could go.
She wanted to see his home. She wanted to meet his sister, wanted to see their children, wanted him.
She ran her soft muzzle along his neck, breathing slowly and then pressing her cheek against his.

"Yes, Bliss..." she pulled back gently, gazing at him from beneath her eyelashes and then looking around as if seeking their path Home. "... we can wander together."
