She shook her head, she knew it was a hard thing for any soquili to understand. "I wouldn't say protect...."
She didn't exactly know how to explain it. She knew Maion would not allow her death unless she crossed that thin like that she had recently been dancing close to when she attacked Miakodo.
"I don't know how to explain it to you, I'm afraid." she shrugged slightly, then a thought crossed into her head. She could always use extra eyes around, more protection, especially with the little ones that had recently come to life. "Will you be staying in the area, now that you know they are here?"

This confused Felina... but she supposed not everything was black and white like she liked it, she would just ignore it for now.... especially given the latest development in this strange meeting. Why would it matter to the mare if she stayed here or not?
She thought about it, really thought.... would she stay? There were two skinwalkers in the area -good prey, she had never backed down before. She would need to get them alone.... but maybe... just maybe.... "Perhaps... if I can find a hint of their trail." Although Felina was starting to believe that two skinwalkers had infact attacked here recently she hadn't found any evidence that they were here.... perhaps they hunted elsewhere? The mare had mention a bird mare? She would likely be able to travel long distances at will... it was times like this that Felina regretted the loss of her flight, her wings now tormenting shadows of what had once been and could never be again.
"What is it to you?" She asked in a suspicious tone, one eyebrow cocked as she watched the other mare.

"We have new foals in our ranks, we could always use an extra set of eyes for their protection," she sensed that the mare could care less of her reasoning really, it wasn't like Sengdroma's family would make a difference to her.
"We could offer you a place to rest, plenty of clean water and food for the winter for your services." she bobbed her head slightly.
She would have to make Maion aware of the female if she accepted. The fact that she had kalona blood made her wary, but if all she targeted was skinwalkers... Maybe they wouldn't have to watch her too closely.

Felina was curious by the offer..... she was being offered a place to stay and food? And for simply doing her job? Interesting.... but could Felina put up being so close to others?
She gave it a moments pause before finally replying, "I suppose I can hang around and hunt the two skinwalkers... but that is all I will do. No foal duties, no hunting for your herd. I also can not promise to stay around, nor that I will tell you if I leave... I hunt skinwalkers, and if I get a fresh lead that is what I do. Agreed?" Felina may be considered harsh but she wanted all her cards on her table, truth was better out now.

Sengdroma shrugged her shoulders as the mare stated her rules. "You are not bound by our herd and we expect nothing of you. We don't expect you to stay against your will or stay for any specific amount of time."
She paused, realizing that she had yet to introduce herself. "Sengdroma, Alpha of Miakoda. And you are...?"
Her ears flickered as she waited, she would like to have a formal name to greet this female with. It was uncomfortable for her to not address one properly.

Felina stored the name away, Sengdroma -alpha. The fact that the mare was an alpha surprised her, not because she didn't like capable but because she had always assumed alphas needed to be male... the strongest and wisest... was the mare before her really that powerful? Was that the truth behind their sucess? Perhaps sticking around could be an experience for her, show her some good opportunities and skills that she had not been able to self-teach herself. "Agreed."
Then she smiled -the scars on her face distorting and probably making her appear menacing- and nodded her head softly as a sign of respect. "Felina. Skinwalker hunter." Was there any need to say more on the subject? Probably not, just like Felina had made judgements about the mare before her she was sure the mare before her had done the same about her. It was natures way....and this was the first mare Felina had ever spoken to properly.
"So, the attack was two moons ago? Have you seen any signs of them since?" Again... information was power.

"Come, walk with me" Sengdroma turned. She would take the mare to where the attack had occured, perhaps she could track from there. "Let me show you were it happened," her steps were slow and steady, she spoke over her shoulder as she went.
"We've not seen them again, but we do not believe they have gone far. The male was pretty well wounded, he is probably in hiding somewhere until he heals a bit more. The female... I'm not sure if they got one of her wings or not. We know it's damaged, but unsure if it's broken,"
"Just up this way," They had not been far from the herd's clearing, it would take only moments to arrive.

Felina nodded and followed, unsure what she had done to earn the trust of seeing the mares bad. Felina wouldn't be so... foolish, to show your back was to invite trouble, a weakness. The only advantage Felina had to this Sengdroma was she had spikes on her tail, and would happily use them with deadly accuracy of years of training. Still, she followed.
As they approached the 'attack site' she glanced around, two moons ago she was sure there would have been a sence of the skinwalkers presence... but now there would unlikely be anything of use. There were recent hoove prints, Sengdromas herdmates must passs through regularly. Shame.... all evidence gone. Still she looked around, pausing and sniffing the ground every now and then. There was a lingering smell of blood..... but faint, almost forgotten, washed away by rain and wind.
Felina looked around the, the spot was pretty open, the forest visable on two sides and behind them the lake. Why pick somewhere so open? Or had there intention been something else... why had they come here? Was it as simple as the herd protecting skinwalker offspring, after all it was a male cat and this female bird. The parents?
She shook her head visable, coming up with such theories would help no one. Instead she turned to look at Sengdroma. "This is active land for your... herd? Isn't it?" She paused for a moment, looking around again, "Who else would know that?"

Sengdroma nodded at the mare's inquiry. "This is our central area, we bed here at night. Anyone who passes through would likely be able to tell. We allow passage of others, so long as they pose no threat to our well being," Sengdroma stated.
She looked over to Felina, "You're more than welcome to look around and do as you wish. If you need me, I'll be by the lake..." She paused for a moment to see if Felina needed anything more of her.

Felina nodded, dismissing the mare as she went back to investigating the ground. If there really was a bird skinwalker then she would likely have seen the area in use in her animal form.... great, another animal that Felina needed to be fearful of, at least skinwalkers were larger than most animals that they imitated.... still. The birds?
Her eyes scanned the trees near by... she could be being watched right now. She only hoped the mare was right and both skinwalkers were injured, that would give her the time to become familar with the are and hunt them.
"Thanks..." she mumbled absently as she started trying to imagine what happened here. It was the beginning of the hunt... and oh how Felina enjoyed the hunt!
