Lumos was a comfort, but apparently not enough of one. She sighed as the music stopped, already a bit of a failure, but not for the reasons she had expected. This was going to take a while, if only because she wasn't used to even noticing she was tense, let alone fixing that problem. Was it really stage fright? Maybe. She certainly hadn't performed before, but the idea hadn't bothered her when she'd heard of the play originally. She supposed it didn't matter. Tense was tense and as much as she disliked Gabe, that warmth in his voice well...he definitely cared about music. She could trust in that, or at least she thought she could. After all, she knew what that was like, right? That feeling? She felt it every time she stood near the warmth of an oven or open stove.
If she thought about what she was passionate about, of what she wanted maybe that would help. It wasn't really about being a star or anything, it was about connecting with someone she admired, or at least that legacy. She needed to stop thinking about winning the part, or putting up with him even, and concentrate on what she was doing. Not in the sense of 'do it better' concentrate, but actually connecting with the words she was singing, with the person she was trying to honor. She took a deep breath, one that actually seemed to flow without a nervous hitch. She looked at him, for once her teal gaze seeming rather honest and calm. She nodded her head, "I think so. Can I try again?"

The boil relatively surprised; he'd apparently been expecting her to give up. At least for the day anyhow, so his answer came a beat slower than he would liked, "....Yes," he only hesitated a moment before nodding, almost as if he deeply approved of her tenacity and then lifted his instrument back to nestle it under his chin, "Let's give this another try then, shall we?" that said, his hand began to move, and music flowed again, "Relax," he was watching her through heavily hooded eyes as he played, his voice but a whisper, but seeing as how she was sitting down beside him, the nix was certain she could hear him, "Good girl... good girl. Just have fun with it. It's not a job. It's something you're doing for fun. For yourself," he then quietened down and allowed her to sing, nodding his approval as she went, even when her words didn't quite reach the tone of voice or the notes she was aiming at.
When the song finished, he nodded his head again, "Better," he commented, "Much better," and then he slowly pushed himself to his feet, standing up beside her. Like this, he really did easily loom over her, "We better leave it there for now. I don't want your voice to suffer too much," he said, and then looked down at her, hesitating a moment before arching a brow and offering her his hand, a silent invitation to pull her up to her feet, "If you sing too much without decent practice, you might find yourself with a sore throat, or utterly voiceless the next day. Easy does it."

It was true her singing wasn't the best, but she could feel the difference, feel how singing for herself and for Sally was different and more natural than what she had been doing before. And for a minute she thought her heart might have slowed, moving along with the slow rhythm of the music. When she finished she felt breathless, but not in the tired sort of way. It was more of a peacefulness, a calm that came without the need for sharp and frantic breathing and panicked heart beats. It felt really wonderful, so much so that when he suggested they stopped she had no desire to protest. Ending it now seemed right and she would rather end feeling like this than in frustration later. So she nodded her head. "Sure." All he had said made said, but she didn't need convincing.
Normally she would have refused, but somehow she didn't really mind right now. She scooped Lumos up with one arm and then grasped his hand with her free one. She used the leverage to pull herself up and stood there for a moment with the small Wishing Crystal in her arms. Finally she said, "It's really good, you know. Your playing." She wasn't sure why she'd said it, or rather why she'd felt the need to say it, as she was sure he knew, but right now she just felt so...dreamy? Or maybe she was just sleepy, she couldn't tell, but somehow she thought it was because of the music. "Thanks for agreeing to teach me."

Another slow, almost languid nod of his head as she grasped his hand, and then a small smile curved his lips; it wasn't his usual smirk, and it wasn't a grin. It was a simple, honest to god smile, "Indeed," he then gave her arm a small tug, helping her gain leverage so she could jump to her feet with ease. He was mildly interested when he noticed the small Wishing Crystal merely yawned and nuzzled back into the ghoul's arms, apparently not particularly disturbed even when she shifted her position back to her feet.
He snapped his gaze off his pet and back to her face, blinking slightly, as if caught of guard before he hooded his gaze again, "Ah, yes," he drawled as he allowed his hand to linger for just a moment more before he withdrew it, "My music. It's what I do," that said, Gabrian turned around and began to walk away, pausing for a second to look over his shoulder, as if silently inviting her to walk with him, "What we do, I mean. As a species," he couldn't help but chuckle slightly at her dreamy attitude though, "It has that effect on people. Some more than others. It seems to relax people - my sister loves the music dearly. She says it's one of the few things that can help her feel better," he had very little trouble talking to her; apparently as little trouble as he had bantering with her.
While it was true he liked to keep to himself for the most part, he didn't seem to fear this ghoul wiggling her way to the truth about him. After all, she'd left it pretty clear she hates him; as such, she posed little threat to Gabrian, and it was that logic what lead him to be able to talk to her freely, "Hmmm?" he turned to look at her, making a small motion with his arm, as if offering to take the pet from her, "Don't worry about it. My pleasure, really," and then, he seemed to pause, pondering something, "If you ever need it, I'd be happy to play something for you."

"I can see why she'd like it," she said, jogging briefly to catch up and then falling in stride beside him. She had to take more steps than he did to keep up, him being so tall and all, but she didn't seem to mind as she held Lumos close in her arms. She mused aloud, her voice rather drifty and quiet, "That could either be a very dangerous art...or very...useful..." She couldn't seem to decide, perhaps because she felt so calm right now, making it hard to think of it as a bad thing despite the fact that, well, it affecting her in and of itself she'd normally consider terrible. Perhaps in hindsight she'd have a clearer head.
She blinked a few times, before looking at him sideways expressing mild surprise. She then looked skyward momentarily, pursing her lips. "Mmmm..." she looked back at him with a small smile and answered, "I think I'd like that." It felt odd to say that, but if she was anything, she was honest. She might not have gotten along with him, but that didn't mean his music wasn't beautiful and that she didn't enjoy it. She stopped walking for a moment, shifting Lumos in her grasp as she did so. Finally she held out the Wishing Crystal to him. "I should probably get back...but how about we have our first set of cooking lessons Moonday at four?"
