Vera also looked surprised at Janice's comment, though she hid it by dropping the newly named kitten into her lap again and wiggling her fingers at it again. Wiggling fingers certainly seemed to be one of her favorite things, if the enthusiasm with which Olive pawed at Vera's was any indication.
When the wind picked up, Vera hunched her shoulders as if to ward off the cold air, though there hadn't been any sort of temperature drop in the apartment. "Maybe," she replied as Olive made her adorably awkward way over to Janice's fingers, since Vera had stopped. "I really don't want to go outside at all, though." The two watched as Olive made her epic trek across the somewhat lumpy terrain of Vera's couch, stumbling a bit as one tiny paw momentarily sunk into the space between two of the cushions. Aggravated and confused, she let the couch know what she thought about it trying to eat her with another wholly-unintimidating mew! that resulted in Janice giving her a bemused scowl and plucking her up away from the danger.
Now there was a playful, purring cat on her lap. Janice was not immune to this -- it had the unusual effect of making her realize just how unpleasant it would be to go back outside.
"We can get it later," she concluded. "After the food is here. But no putting it off after that, since she's going to want some of her own."
