His usual long, stiff stride relaxed into a more casual walk as they put distance between themselves and the elevator. The area was entirely vacant, with the exception of the two elites. The only other exit was through the massive garage, of which you had to have a cleared vehicle in order to get out. A vehicle was something they didn't need for this outing.
However, taking the emergency tunnel would be considered a bit suspicious, especially by some of his coworkers and underlings.
Suddenly Seth came to a halt and put out his arm to stop Nadja as well. "Hold on," he told her as his gaze swept the area. Recalling mental maps of this particular section, Seth scanned the walls and ceilings as if looking for something.
The hour was right, and the nightly security systems should be in full gear. Meant to keep anyone from going in or out except in emergency situations. Use of the tunnel was strictly forbidden otherwise.
Motioning for Nadja to stay put, Seth sidled up to the right wall a few paces ahead, where a nondescript fire extinguisher hung. Reaching inside his jacket, he then pulled out a small utility tool. Reaching carefully under the grip of the red tank and used the tool to fiddle with it.
"There, that should do it."

Nadja came up short, nearly bumping against Seth's outflung arm with a quizzically furrowed brow. She'd had a vague idea of where this was heading, but when he skulked along the wall and actually took a toolkit out of his jacket she made a noise of amused, bemused disbelief.
It was hard not to be a little impressed when a man disabled a major security system for you.
But it was an insubstantial thought - the fluttery, impractical sort of thing that would appeal to a sixteen-year-old girl who had never kissed, not a twenty-eight-year-old woman who most certainly had. A host of other concerns loomed large, centered around professional responsibilities and not getting thrown in the brig.
The redhead took on a dryly doubtful expression."..you know, we could just take the elevator again and save a host of trouble," she pointed out, hands in her coat pockets while she watched him fiddle with the fire extinguisher. Did he really want to explain himself if this got noticed?

Seth turned an expression on Nadja that could be best described as.. 'What the hell for?' They were here, and he had already taken care of one. Besides... "You can just consider it a test on the security system. I know what I'm doing."
He came up to Nadja as he spoke and then continued walking. "This tunnel is made of fortified concrete ten feet thick. Its a good shelter for most major disasters but there isn't much worth securing except the entrance and exit. The security here isn't as complicated as you might think. We stopped using Persian statues and booby traps back when Lance and that kid broke into the Mahogany hideout."

Nadja's expertise lay firmly in the realm of the living things - machines were an integral part of her daily work, but their workings were often opaque and at right angles to her way of thinking. Seth, on the other hand, spent most of him time with them and certainly knew more about the system, strange as it was. This looked stupidly reckless to her, but he was an intelligent man. (Although stupidly reckless.) So although images of a confrontation with Lucere swam in her mind ("And what exactly were you thinking, Agent, when you willfully compromised security?" "I was thinking I didn't want to be seen going out on a date." "...") the redhead charily conceded, "All right."
She was going to regret this later, surely. But for now, she was off-duty, and it was her birthday, and..
..and she wasn't quite sure why she was doing this, or - more worringly - why she didn't much care.
The tunnel was low-lit, amber sodium lights and the cool, dense walls giving it a feel that was two parts parking garage, one part tomb. Nadja nodded slightly as he explained, drawing revisions to her mental map of the base which would be actively processed later, but mostly she listened to the way the man's voice echoed in the concrete chamber than to the words themse-
There was a sudden tense silence and a sound like an Eevee hitting a brick wall.

Seth kept his gaze ahead as he walked and spoke. However, his attention was quickly turned back to Nadja as he heard the distinct sound of flesh and bone impact with an unyielding concrete wall.
What he saw left him speechless for several moments as he stopped dead in his tracks. A look of shock crossing wide blue eyes for a moment before turning to bewilderment. Did she just... Had he said something wrong? That had been completely unexpected.
"Are... you all right?" he asked with slight hesitation. Likely not considering how the sound indicated that she'd hit that wall pretty hard. And all after his explanation of it being 10 foot thick reinforced concrete. It would not give to a human hand, that was certain.

At the question, Nadja's stormy expression cleared. Her eyes met his briefly, then shifted to the wall and the fist - hers - slammed forcefully against it. "Oh," she said, as if seeing it for the first time.
Slowly, she relaxed her hand and pulled it away, cradling it as she studied the damage. It had been a direct strike leaving no abrasion, but a sharp ache in her bones made her wonder if she'd thrown them out of joint. She smoothed over the pattern of the concrete's pores on her flesh, the tunnel's gloom obscuring the nuances of her expression.
That was careless.
"It's a small thing," Nadja murmured, and brushed some embedded grit away from skin and sleeve. The redhead turned grey eyes up to Seth and moved to put her hand in her coat again, ready to move on. "It'll pass."

Careless isn't the word Seth would have used for it.
The man snorted at Nadja's words.
"That's bullshit. What the hell were you thinking?! Let me see that." He demanded as he held at his hand with a deeply etched frown on his face. He waited expectantly for Nadja to show him her hand. He would be surprised if she hadn't broken something.
This incident was so unexpected since Nadja was almost always level headed. For her to react so spontaneously was out of the norm. He wasn't sure what triggered it, but he intended to find out.

Nadja's eyes narrowed an obstinate fraction. This wan't necessary.
But you picked your battles, and this one wasn't worth it - there was nothing to see. So she sighed, held out her hand to him palm-up with a whisper of coat fabric, and cast an annoyed look at the far end of the tunnel while she flexed her fingers as if to say 'See?' It might have smarted warmly along the edge, but there was none of the sharp, splintering pain that meant something was truly broken.
After a moment she cast a surreptitious glance at what he was doing.

The more she hid it, the more Seth would have been convinced that she'd seriously harmed herself. Thus he was pleased when she held up her hand, but that wasn't enough for him.
He reached out and took her wrist, thoroughly inspecting it for any signs of significant injury. Even going as far as to feeling the bones in her fingers to see if she reacted. However, nothing really felt out of place, and thus he let it go after a few moments.
"Hmph. Don't do it again."

The redhead watched Seth's manual assessment with a faint frown, brushing a loose wisp of hair back in the meantime. Her slim fingers flexed slightly as his hands moved away, then dropped to her side. "I don't plan on it," Nadja murmured, a bit distantly.
Which meant close to nothing. She hadn't planned on it just then either.
"Well." She smirked slightly at her companion, a brow arching. "Shall we move on?"

There was a neutral hum at Nadja's reply and her suggestion to move on.
"Yeah," was his response before Seth started walking again. There was silence after that for a few moments, his hands finding their way into the pockets of his jacket. Brows were knitted in thoughtful concentration, before he turned his blue eyes toward her in a side look.
"What was that about?" A valid question since normal people didn't just punch a concrete wall for no reason.

"Old business," Nadja answered after a brief half-second of consideration. She lifted her chin slightly as she sighted the exit up ahead, illuminated by floodlamps. They gave an amber cast to her pearl drops, which swung as she canted her head to give Seth a similar sideways look and a dry half-smile.
"If it's all the same to you, I'd rather not spoil the mood. At least not today." A valid answer. There were just some things you didn't do on someone's birthday, and 'bring up topics spawning violent reactions' was near the top of the list.

"Hn, All right." He decided to relent for now. Although Seth had already narrowed it down to the last sentence he had spoken before her sudden outburst. Thus whatever it was, it had to do with either Persians, booby traps, Lance, that kid, or Mahogany. All of which were certainly possibilities, some more than others.
"By the way, Happy Birthday."
He hadn't actually said it yet, but figured now might be a good time. However, he again motioned for Nadja to stop, and then looked at the walls. "Trip Lasers," he explained, remembering exactly where they were. Since he had been the one to install them himself. Seth glanced between the two walls. He had placed one just above foot height and another just below his head height. They were well hidden, and if he hadn't known where they were, he would never known they were there. "Follow me," he instructed as he carefully stepped over an invisible line and ducked under another.

"Thank you," Nadja started to say, but she was distracted from the rest of her thought by the sudden stop. The redhead followed Seth's line of sight with a raised brow, then followed him past the invisible beams. She only had to step over the one; without the heels of her elite uniform, she passed under the other with inches to spare.
He really was too tall.

As soon as they passed the lasers, he continued on a straight diagonal path to the wall. There seemed to be nothing there, except a line of rivets that went all the way to the ceiling, holding two sections of wall together.
That is until he pulled a set of keys out of his pocket, and inserted one of them into a rivet, which upon closer inspection, was actually a lock. With a single turn, the elite then opened a hidden door to what appeared to be a breaker box. Followed by a resounding click as he flipped one of the switches.
"That will take care of the rest," he assured her before closing and locking the door. "It will make the previous camera going out look like there was a power surge that caused a trip in the breaker. The automatic will soon kick in and the system will right itself. I didn't build it to stay down for long. Still, its good to know in case of emergencies."
With that, he led the way to the exit. After going up an incline, they eventually emerged to the outside through a set of large metal doors that blended in to the side of the HQ building.
